My favorite Roku to date!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We used the Roku Stream Stick and preferred the interface to others (Amazon, Chromecast, etc.). Bought the Ultra during the Black Friday sale and it was the best add on to our television! Now I want to use the Ultra on every television in the household! Great, user friendly, interface. Easy to navigate. The voice activation is fantastic.

An excellent device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This, in my experience, is one of the best and most cost-effective of the current streaming devices. It is both easy to setup and easy to use. In addition, the aquarium screen saver is very amusing. I also have an Apple TV, and like the Roku much better.

Works for Xfinity/Comcast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My main reason for buying this device is to replace the small box that Comcast charges me $6.99/month. I get all the channels that I did with the Comcast box AND I get access to their on-demand content that I wasn't able to get with their box. I can also access Netflix through this device, as this TV doesn't have the built-in feature that my other TVs have. I haven't tried too many other functions, but it works for what I needed and it will pay for itself in a year. The only drawback so far is that the remote doesn't have a number pad, so you have to use the up and down arrows to change channels and it doesn't have a previous channel button to quickly flip back and forth.

Great cord-cutter
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Roku Ultra is the top-end of the Roku line and it shows. Included with the physical device is an IR receiver that is paired with a $40 set of JBL headphones for private listening. The remote as well has some nifty features like voice searching, remote find, and quick setup. The Roku OS is pretty swift as well though I did encounter an issue where the voice searching failed to work until I rebooted the device and re-paired the remote. Being able to utilize the Roku mobile app on iOS and Droid makes this system even friendlier. As a cord-cutting platform, the Roku Ultra here is ideal.

Streaming player great...media player NOT great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, the new Roku Ultra is about the same as last year's model. The streaming services are great and the player is very fast and responsive. It does detect if you are NOT using a HDCP 2.2 compliant HDMI port for 4K. If not, it will display automatically in 1080p. Keep this in mind if you are not sure what kind of ports you have. If you are looking to play media files or movies in HD Master Audio then this player is a MAJOR let down. I have movies saved in MKV format which show a beautiful 4K picture. However, the audio is in HD Master Audio with 7.1 and it does NOT put sound out via HDMI receiver. Not sure why the new 2018 model (4661R) does not support that. Nor does it support Dolby Atmos. Come on Roku, 2 other leading media players have this ability...what happened here?!?! Big let down, possibly return mine for the NVIDIA Shield...it does cost more but it will code all sound formats with 4K. Roku needs to catch up in that department!

Easy set up and works great

It streams stuff I guess. Kinda.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It blows my mind how horrible of a product this is. Allow me to tell you my 3 year experience with this product. If you plug in headphones in the remote and fall asleep, the remote is still sucking battery even after Netflix stopped and my TV turns off. I have to change the batteries every couple days. I watch maybe like 5 hours a day on it. MINIMALLY it crashes and restarts 2 times. No message? No reason? Cool. Just stoops playing sound for 20 seconds and then reboots. Really enjoyable watching experience. Runs hot. It's propped up on jenga bricks to give better air flow and I still think could make an over easy egg on it. In case I'm painting too confusing a picture. It runs unreasonably hot. Points to garbage parts, manufacturing, or something along the road from conception of the device to my house. There are a lot of other streaming devices out there and between this being useless and my other cheaper roku stick also being a peice of crap, I will never buy anything from them again. All around pretty much crap. I guess it works in the sense that you can watch a show on it, but don't expect your hundred bucks to yeild that value of an experience. I'd pay MAYBE $30 for this.

Great product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My third Roku, and the first two still work, just shifted them to other TVs when I got a 4K Samsung. I also wanted the Ultra for the earphone feature, and it all works great. But three months in I think the earphone jack itself failed. Earphone audio screeches as I insert plug, onscreen volume indicator pegs at 100 and Roku volume up/down toggle does nothing. Same result with Sony earphones. This should be a warrantied failure, but we'll see how Roku handles that...

Solid Roku with Limitations
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall great Roku performance and easy to setup. The only downside is that Roku Ultra 2018 does not include HDMI 2.0 cable (unless bought from Cotsco) and no Ethernet cable included in the box. After paying 99.99 for this Roku, you have to spend another $15+ on HDMI and Ethernet cables. The purpose of of this high lineup Roku is because people prefer a hardwired Roku. Instead Roku has included JBL 39.99 valued headphones in the box that I never used. Roku should include HDMI and Ethernet cables in the Roku high lineup box and not headphones because everyone has their own preference when it comes to headphones style. Overall 3 stars.

Excellent device for streaming TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Use this device for all TV watching. This includes switching between Youtube TV and Playstation Vue. Using Youtube TV now, seems to be the best overall for our needs. So far this ROKU device hasn't given me the purple screen hdmi issue that my past ROKU's have. Have it hooked up to an older Samsung 4K TV and now have just the one remote that controls power on and off for the TV along with volume control.

Best 4k streaming media player
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used the 1080 p version but recently got a 4k TV but wanted all the apps that wasn't there on native Android TV. Roku has the best UI I have ever used on a tv. switching between apps is so easy.

Broke after a year.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to turn one of my dumb TVs into a smart TV. It served its purpose, but it had a pretty shoddy on screen interface. It took a while to understand Roku's channel setup, but I got it figured out. Streaming worked perfectly, but I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't stream Twitch on it. After about 16 months, the audio out stopped working. I tried multiple chords on multiple television. I tried using the reset button multiple times. Nothing got it to work again. When I went online to see if there was a way to fix the problem, I found out that this was a common problem people have with the unit. I will not buy another Roku, as this is the only version with an Ethernet port, and a $100 dollar device should have lasted much much longer.

only useful if you don’t have a smart tv
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.there’s really only a handful of apps that are worth having, most which can already be found in your tv, but beyond that, there’s really not much to it and the JBL headphones are a joke, there’s absolutely nothing premium about them.

comes with a weird power suply
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I should have bought the streaming stick + 4k. This ultra version comes with a bizarre ac/dc adpater which needs to plugin at the end of your power strip, or it uses up 2-3 spots in the middle. I wish roku would have spec'd a slim sideways adapter as is common these days, it's not acceptable to hog 2-3 spots on my power strip, especially in a challenging location like a wall-mounted tv with limited power options to begin with. I like roku's usb-powered sticks, much cleaner cabling and it even saves power when your tv is off. I'm going to return the ultra I bought.

Previous models are much better!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned several rokus since there inception each was a upgrade over the last but this one going from a Premier + to the lattest Ultra seems more like a downgrade! The reason I say this is 1. The remote goes into a sleep mode and sometimes takes forever to wake up I wind up using a third party remote because off this! The second issue is CEC control was removed by roku my 2 year old P+ could control the volume of my Polk Soundbar with CEC thru the HDMI cable but the ultra only supports IR control I built my home theatre in a way that makes this very inconvenient and forced me to keep several remotes handy to control everything! I don’t know what Roku was thinking when the removed important features from what’s supposed to the the latest and greatest roku? IMHO products should improve on features by adding more and improvements on existing but companies seem to think removing and replacing them is the way to go? Maybe this is why I was able to buy this device on a deal they had for $49.00 yes I said $49.00 new! If I paid any more I would have returned it! I took it out of my Home theatre and put it in the bedroom so I could put the P+ back in the HT room! The thing most people hate is having to fumble with multiple remotes in a dim theater! Roku if you read this shame on you for stepping back on this device!

Roku support is terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Roku support is terrible, and they don't honor their warranty, so be very cautious when purchasing a Roku. I've purchased several, including an Ultra. It stopped functioning properly after 11 months (sound dropping out), and the warranty was for 12 months. I reported the problem and Roku support sent a couple emails, but they never actually did anything about it. In fact, they never even explained why they did nothing. And that was my 3rd Roku. You'd think they would take care of a repeat customer, but not a word from them for months. That's the last Roku that I'll buy.
