It does not work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It copied the video portion of the VHS tape but not most of the sound. I tried it several times. One time the sound recorded for the beginning of the DVD but nothing else. I would like to return the item.

too glitchy during transfer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hopeful that this would be a great solution and a fun project transfering old vis directly to digital. Sadly the transfers were all glitchy with digital issues and spikes throughout.

Not compatible with macOS Catalina
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this in 2017, now that macOS updated to 64 bit Catalina they will try to make you buy this again, the 'new version'. Very disappointed.

Not worth the trouble
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Toaster 17 and other programs are so much more user friendly. IT is improved but still not a simple way to just put stuff on a flash drive.

Works as advertised
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to transfer old VHS kids movies to my NAS for streaming. GOOD: - Easy to connect and install: It took me longer to dig out the VCR and get it connected than it did to install the software and connect it to the VCR. - Straighforward operation: Once it's all set up, throw in a tape, press play on the VCR, and then hit record on the software. Easy peasy. - Good quality conversion: Keeping in mind that we're talking about VHS tapes on an old VCR, the quality of the output was good. Looked about the same as I'd expect if connected to an old "tube" TV. NOT SO GOOD: - Need more software for DVD To transfer to DVD requires iDVD (now included in iMovie) or some 3rd party burning software. (It does say this on the box though!) - Limited output options: Output options (or quality as Roxio calls it) is limited to 3; high, medium, low. High is the standard Apple Intermediate CODEC (.MOV), medium is h.264 (MP4) but no options to change the resolution from 640x480, and low is also h.264, but at the 320x240 resolution. - Instructions are dated: The instructions still refer to iDVD, even though that's now part of iMovie (since iMovie 10). It would have been nice for Roxio to have updated their manuals and boxes to reflect the changes in the software. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase. I went in looking for another brand of capture card for Mac, but had to choose between this and a different brand. I went with this for the Roxio name. So far, it's been perfectly fine. As stated in my "not so good", I chose to capture in high quality (.MOV) and then convert that to a smaller MP4 using QuickTime. The .MOV is rather large (about 10GB for a feature film), but the final MP4 is much more reasonable (in the 100s of MB range), so it's all good. I may try to see if there's a difference in final quality between letting the Video Capture output directly to MP4 and me doing it with QT. If/when I do, I'll update the review.

Gets the Job done, but that's it.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. On the plus side, I'd have to say that it is easy to install, easy to use and small and out of the way when not in use. On the negative side, I'd have to say that the quality of video transfer isn't the best. Tends to be darker and less resolution than the original. Significantly so. If you don't want to break the bank, it gets the job done, though I have seen better ones for more money.

Great Tool... Needs a bit improvement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a vaio quad core laptop with windows 7 professional 64 bit OS. My computer level and skills are High..... I'm very familiar with this product and it is great to copy VHS or 8mm from a VCR or camcorder....etc.... and I mean great!.... Only problem is the editing tools are very poor and sometimes not compatible specially with windows 7. I will suggest to get a different software to edit your videos if thats something you care about. Other than that to record on yout laptop or PC is Fantastic! Very pleased with it... and the price is 100% worth it.

Works Great, Except When it Doesn't
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The software was easy to set up and was easy to use once installed. However, if it cannot transfer the VHS to DVD, the error messages are extremely unhelpful and it is hard to know why it did not work. I attempted to transfer an, admitted very old, VHS tape and it appeared to work fine until I tried to stop the recording at which point I would get an error message. The error message did not tell me what the problem was and it took me quite a while to search the Roxio website to find any type of explanation of what had gone wrong.

Works as advertised
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great and easy to set up. Nice to watch old videos MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A VCR TO RECORD STUFF OFF OF! Even if you are not tech savvy, you should be able to understand how to record things. Good purchase if you are looking to record VHS and not looking for anything too complicated

Do not buy this software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Shame on me. I should have read the reviews before I picked this up almost 3 weeks ago. As other reviewers have stated, the tech support for this program is very bad. If you have a problem with the software then you'll probably do better researching the community groups. My issue is that I can not get audio into the Mac. Video appeared to work fine. All of the work-arounds suggested in the community area I tried but nothing worked. When I finally got an e-mail from tech support he instructed me to do everything I already tried. When I responded with "Didn't work, now what?" I never got an answer back. In the mean time, my free 14-day tech support expires. I just bought my Mac a couple of weeks ago.....latest and greatest OS. I checked out my RCA cables and the audio outs from my VCR and they work fine. I understand about the policy of Best Buy and other retailers concerning opened software not able to be returned...but this is ridiculous. Like I said...shame on me. I should have read the reviews on this site before committing to the purchase. Silly me, thinking that if I have a Mac and it's Mac software, it's going to work. Cost me $80 to learn that isn't always the case.

Excellent Software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never done a review before but this software is excellent. It will put your VHS tapes right into iMovie.without a problem. I have done a lot of movies on VHS from 80s and 90s of the kids. Put them right into iMovie event library to edit it and work from there. Got it on sale at Best Buy.

Does Everything It Claims To
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read all of the reviews telling horror stories about this product not working with Catalina OS, so I was worried that it would be a problem, but bought it anyway. It has performed perfectly! Sometime earlier this year Roxio must have done a fix to make it work with the Catalina 64 bit system, because I have had no problems whatsoever. I have copied two 1 1/2 hour videos and have had no trouble. My only problem has been trying to find the downloaded file on my hard drive. The instructions are fine for start up, but do't go farther than that. I finally reset the destination location for the file and recopied it and now I have no trouble. Apparently, you need to have iMovie 11 to have it automatically download to iMovie. I have iMovie10, but was able to easily drag the file into it and create a new iMovie. I have a separate DVD burning program, so I have not tried to do it from Roxio and cannot comment on whether that works properly.

Should be advertised as VHS to .mov
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It easily converts to an iMovie format and burns to a DVD. The problem that I had was remains as .mov and will not run on a DVD player. I then had to buy additional software to concert to IDVD, then burn on a DVD disc.
