I bought the Sabrent SATA to USB adapter to transfer data from an old laptop SSD, and it worked flawlessly right out of the box. No drivers needed—just plug it in, and the drive shows up instantly. The build quality feels solid, and the USB 3.0 connection provides fast transfer speeds. I was able to clone a drive and transfer large files in no time. What I really like is how portable and easy it is to use—perfect for tech work on the go or quick backups. Just a heads-up: this is meant for 2.5” drives only, not full-size desktop hard drives. But for SSDs and laptop drives, it's absolutely perfect. Works right out of the box. No extra hardware was required and read each drive I needed to view at the correct speed without issue. The build is sturdy and should last a long time as long as care is taken with the connection ends. Worth every penny.

I purchased this adapter along with a Samsung 870 EVO 1TB SSD and added the drive to my computer with no problems. I replaced my standard hard drive. It does come with the Acronis True Image Cloning Software as well.

After doing some research, the chip inside the adapter is a JMircon Tech SCSI chip. This chip is NOT hot swappable. Hot Swapping is the process of changing drives without the need to either turn the pc off, remove adapters, or power down a device. In order for this to be hot swappable, you should be able to change drives from, as in my uploaded example, drive A to B or B to A, without needing to unplug the cable from the pc/mac. This is NOT the case. Plugging in the cable without a drive attached will cause a drive error on a drive that isn't there, thus, I am going to use the term ghosting moving forward. The adapter is sending some kind of drive data to the computer showing, in my case, Disk 5, which doesn't exist. This is my when you attempt to plug in an actual drive AFTER the cable has been plugged in, the computer has no idea that a drive has now been plugged in. The JMicron SCSI Controller is storing and sending either the fake drive information or the previous drive information to the computer making it impossible to hot swap a drive. The correct way to change drives with this adapter is to remove the cable completely, change your drive, then plug the cable back in with the new drive attached to the adapter. This will then update the JMicron SCSI Controller drive info it sends to the computer. I attempted to load a different driver, Marvell, as mentioned in a forum I found, but that didn't work. However, once I tried this same thing on a mac and the result was the same, I knew a driver was not to blame. To conclude, this adapter does work to allow for communication between an external drive to your computer. Just remember that hot swapping will not be a feature you get to enjoy.

I was able to hook my laptop hard drive to the adapter, and it almost opened my files. The MS BitLocker recovery key is the problem.
