    great sound, easy to use

Bought a new Samsung Smart tv, sound wasn't that great. This sound bar is excellent. My favorite thing about it is you can make the adjustment so you can hear voices over music (I'm over 50 and can't hear the voices! so annoying!) This fixes that! Being Samsung product with a Samsung tv it's very easy to use and only one remote, or your phone as a remote if you have a Samsung phone-easy. The sound is fantastic for hubby who loves it loud-all the booms and crashes etc... The subwoofer tends to scare the heck out of our dog, but she's learning not to sit right next to it! Music played on any streaming channel you may use is very good through this also.

I replaced my older Soundbar and I now have MUCH cleaner crisper sound and much deeper base. This will (never) beat a Stereo Speaker set up but WAY Closer then expected for the price.

Easy set up with Samsung 65'' ks8500, set it up through Bluetooth and sounds great especially for the price. Only thing is screws don't come with item for wall brackets.

Just picked this up today at a great price. Got it home and set it up very simply with the optical cable it came with. Here's where things went south real quick. This soundbar comes with a digital display that appears through the mesh on the front center of the main unit. Unfortunately, the display was shot! The data was scrambled and illegible. It almost looked alien like! Now I have to pack it up and exchange it, bummer. Thought samsung had better quality control. Assuming the next one doesn't have the same issue, still a very good one to recommend.

I went into Best Buy to look at a descent sound bar with a $300.00 budget. The sales consultant was very helpful in showing me the best bang for my buck. He showed me this sound bar since I recently purchased a new 65inch Samsung t.v. after getting it home and working out a few bugs this system works great I would definitely recommend this sound bar if your budget conscious. Also consider the rear speakers I think it will set the whole system into another level.

This was an open box which made me skeptical but turns out was a great move. I bought this in 2017 and here it is 2021 and it’s still going strong. Now this is more for a bedroom but I can see it working in a small living room. I use it as a arc connection and works flawlessly.

Sound quality heavely relies on audio format

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I exchange a vizio 36" 5.1 sound bar for this one and I kinda regret it. The vizio sounded great but I felt that on high volumes the subwoofer was having a hard time to produce the bass notes I wanted and I decided to exchange it for this one. This soundbar can sound louder than the vizio but only if you have your tv set up with the dolby or dts audio formats. The problem is that not all devices uses the same audio formats and the sound bar sounds so bad without these settings that every time I change of source (for example PS4, Wii U or Netflix app) I have to re-set the audio setting to have acceptable audio quality. If I don't set this up the sound bar will output dull sound with almost no bass or worse, no audio at all. The vizio did not had this problem, it allways sounded good no matter which setting the tv had. You just had to be careful with the volume. The same thing applies to the Bluetooth functionality. It doesn't matter on what level you have the bass set to, it will always sound dull and with disappointing bass. If wasn't for this hassle I would have rate it 5 stars.

      Arsuaga,

Thank you for purchasing this Samsung HW-M450 Soundbar System.
I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with its low volume output of certain audio formats.

Have you tried these tips that may help improve the volume level?
      1. If the Soundbar is connected to a TV thru HDMI, make sure to use the HDMI-ARC jack on the TV and select “External speakers” as the TV sound output.
      2. Check the audio output format sent to the Soundbar. Typical options are PCM, Dolby Digital, and Bitstream. Select the option that optimizes the sound from your source.
      3. Change the SOUND MODE on the Soundbar using the Soundbar’s remote. Choices are STANDARD, MUSIC, CLEAR VOICE, SPORTS, or MOVIE. Select the appropriate mode for the individual room acoustics.
      4. Turn on Dynamic Range Control. This is done by pressing and holding the SOUND MODE button on the remote control while the Soundbar is in standby mode.

I bought this for my medium sized living room and added the optional wireless rear surround speakers and it sounds incredible!!! My phone will instantly play my apple music songs or pandora, and movies sound great! Buy this before you go looking at those bulky speaker packages with wires everywhere and you won't be disappointed

The sound quality in the Best Buy store was by far the best out of the few that were on display for a similar price. I was excited to get this bad boy home but tHat excited quickly turned into frustration! The sub woofer didn't connect! After a couple of hours pulling my hair out, reading instructions, googling and watching YouTube video I discovered is was defective. The green and orange light stayed lit and apparently that means it's defective. Promptly took it back to store and got a Sony HT-CT790 which was on sale for 269.00 from original 399.00 not bad! Got home and set up was 2 minutes and sounds amazing! I picked Sony only because I was nervous getting a Samsung again for fear of quality issues. Set rating as 3 stars because it's worth a look for the price and if you are willing to forgive potential quality issues.

This was spur of the moment purchase and ended up being a great investment. We bought this to go in our bedroom and it sounds better than the 5.1 surround system that we have in the living room. I ended up putting the sub-woofer under the bed.

I received the Samsung HW-KM45 sound bar as a Christmas gift from my wife. After hooking it up, was blown away by the sound this thing put out. The crystal clear highs and rich deep lows from the 6.5" sub was unbelievable and was plenty loud at half volume. Wanting to add the wireless surround speakers for this unit (swa-8000s) I found that they were unavailable anywhere as this model sound bar was last years model and had been discontinued. I found that Best Buy had the newer model HW-M450/ZA with larger 7” sub and 320 watts for the same price as the discontinued one, I jumped on it and purchased this, as well as the wireless rear surrounds (swa-8500s) that went with it. To say that I was disappointed is a huge understatement. I did multiple side by side comparisons with concert/music as well as different movie clips using optical and HDMI inputs on both sound bars. I wanted so bad to like the newer model (HW-M450) because of the bigger sub and 20 more watts of power than the older discontinued model but the sound quality wasn’t even close. Even with the sub volume maxed out, it wouldn’t touch the smaller version’s deep/rich lows set at 0. Full volume on this unit was at the ¾ of older unit. The sound bars themselves seem identical appearance wise, but that’s where the similarities end. It’s as though the newer model; (this one) had been throttled down. Again, I was comparing the 2 units using the same cables, media, blu ray player etc… I think Samsung had a good thing going with the side firing sub used in last years model. Needles to say I boxed it up and returned to BB. I’ll continue searching for the wireless surround swa-8000s that go with the one I kept. If you come across an HW-KM45, I’d jump on it. You will not be disappointed.

Bought this open box and everything works great. On movies and videos optimized for audio this sound bar really shines. The subwoofer works great on those deep notes such as explosions and drum beats.

Overall a good product, like the sound and looks of the soundbar but only have had it for about a week and it shuts itself off in about 8 hours. Called Samsung and they said it was our outlet. What a joke!! Good thing I have the two year warranty. Might return and get a different brand.

The samsung soundbar sounds great, however, I can hardly hear the subwoofer. I hit the subwoofer button changing the volume but you can't hear it unless you get right up on it. I am not intelligent when it comes to this so I don't know if I need to take it back and get another one.

    Buyer Beware

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Do no waste your time purchasing an open box unit. The price is inviting but the amount of time I have spent trying to get the unit to work correctly is no where near worth the money I saved. When checking out, Best Buy recommends to purchase rear speakers which i did. My open box sound bar appears to be stuck in shop mode and will not link with the rear speakers. After hours on the phone with Samsung & even purchasing a cord to do a software update, still no way to connect rear speakers. As a part of troubleshooting, I was told to disconnect the subwoofer. After doing so, I now had no way of connecting the subwoofer back either. I even took the product back to Best buy who shipped it out and claimed it was fixed. Eventually had to go pick my speaker back up and no surprise when I get it home its still in shop mode and will not connect to rear speakers. Soundbar and subwoofer sound good for their price but I will never shop at Best Buy or purchase a samsung product after this mess again. Almost 3 months later and still can not use a product i bought January 8th. Looks like ill be heading back to Best Buy AGAIN tomorrow.

i wanted to replace my sony sound bar in my bedroom with something a little smaller length wise. the size of this sound bar fit the bill perfectly... however, after hooking everything up via hdmi i popped in a bluray and it wouldn't play the dolby digital HD 5.1 soundtrack but it played the 2.0 soundtrack. i was like hmm thats odd. so i picked another movie. it wouldn't play the english dts hd 5.1 soundtrack but it played the french 5.1 soundtrack. i called customer service and it took about an hour for him to tell me the sound bar won't play/decode hd 5.1 soundtracks. um, why? my sony 2.1 sound bar played everything just fine but was more expensive than $200. also, it comes with a big subwoofer that outputs barely any bass even when you turn the subwoofer up so there was that issue also. oddly enough the demo in the store was booming but the one i bought and hooked up with all hdmi wouldn't play any HD sound and just sounded bad period. awful experience.

Please know that the HW-M450 has a dedicated Sub-woofer level control on your remote that may help with your concern of the low bass volume. The button is labeled “WOOFER”, and is located to the right of the Volume button.

Unit worked fine initially, sounded great watching a movie. A couple of days later, crackling noises started coming from the sound bar speakers. Turned off for a few hours, tried again, and crackling sounds got worse. Then unit died and won't turn back on. Then made mistake of filling out a repair request at Samsung web site ... submitted but it failed to be recorded using Safari and Chrome on Mac. Then tried their email contact form ... submitted but no sign that submission succeeded. So, a failing unit and dismal online support results in 1 lousy star.
