Known Electronic Problems, Is Samsung unethical?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've bought two of these refrigerators. I became aware of the electronic issues in reviews when I bought the first one. I figured it was bad luck for those customers and it wouldn't happen to me. I had that fridge for 7 months with ZERO issues before I left it with the house I sold. I loved that fridge so I bought a second one with my new house. From the day it delivered it displayed all the electronic issues that are well documented online so I won't elaborate here but the typical sporadic switching from water to ice mode, electronic beeping, temperature settings change up and down, etc. I talked to Samsung and here's what I was told. There is a known design defect which allows moisture to condense on the main circuit board. Because the circuit board is not conformal coated at the factor to protect the electronics from moisture the circuit board then sporadically shorts out. This is why there are all these reviews about the fridge with electronic problems and moisture leaks. What I've discovered from Samsung is that they know the issue exists and have chosen not to recall the product. Instead they made a decision to have the customer identify which units malfunction and if in warranty Samsung will fix it by sending a repairman to refurbish the fridge. If the fridge is out of warranty you are stuck paying to correct Samsung's design problem. The appliance division at Samsung needs to review their practices I feel their practices are unethical. With the cost of this appliance it is a poor business practice to push their problems onto their customers which forces them to waste their time and money researching and correcting this problem. Search this fridge and Samsung exploding washing machine on YouTube and you'll see how the appliance division at Samsung works. I wouldn't buy again and strongly caution you to avoid Samsung Appliances. On a positive note, Best Buy took the refrigerator back within their normal returns period so that was awesome. I did have a video of the board shorting out but I don't have a way of uploading it here.

I'll never buy another Samsung
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the 2nd Samsung fridge we've owned and I will NEVER buy one again. The first fridge was a side-by-side that we bought in late 2010. Within 6 months, the ice maker started giving us major problems. It was repaired half a dozen times over the course of about a year before Samsung finally paid us out for the fridge. We went and bought a GE and had zero problems for the 2 years we owned it. Fast forward to 2014-15. We moved and sold the GE. Bought a new house a year later and needed a new fridge. Went to BB and the salesman assured me that Samsung had addressed the ice maker and compressor issues that they'd had back when we bought our first one. Against my better judgement, I decided to give Samsung another try. I bought the 5-year warranty just in case. I'm glad I did. Once again, within 6 months, the ice maker went out and the electronic controls started to freeze up. We had the mother board and electronic display replaced. The ice maker was replaced and serviced 3 times in the span of 3-4 months. Once again, Samsung deemed the fridge irreperable and gave us authorization to exchange it in store. Thankfully, I got a store credit, so I'm not obligated to get another Samsung. Bottom line: Fooled twice with Samsung refrigerators. I won't fall for it again. It's a shame because the Samsung designs are exactly what we need for our family of 6: lots of cubic feet, big freezer, and a BIG ice maker. We're major ice consumers and most of the French door refrigerators have tiny ice bins. The great design is the only reason I didn't give the fridge a one-star rating.

Buyer Beware!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DO NOT buy a samsung refrigerator. You have be warned. We purchased a french door samsung refrigerator and about 6 months after our purchase the ice maker stopped working. About a month later their was so much ice build up in the cooling area that the refrigerator stopped cooling. When we called samsung about this issue, they told us we had to defrost the refrigerator. We were sent some directions on how to do this. I thought this was 2018 not 1935. We defrosted the refrigerator and we had the same issue about 3 months later. Samsung is no help. They tell us to keep defrosting the refrigerator. Again, its 2018 and for the price we paid for this appliance you would think we wouldn't have to defrost it every few month.

Caveat Emptor “let the buyer beware”
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is my contention that Samsung Corporation knowingly used inferior stainless steel - that spontaneously begins to rust within 7 months of purchase - in the manufacture and/or assembly our 7 month old refrigerator. After all, why would the warranty for refrigerator # RFG******* state “This limited warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship…” and then afterward state “and shall not apply to the following, including, but not limited to… cosmetic damage or exterior finish.” I am left to speculate that Samsung does not produce sheets of stainless steel for this refrigerator and that it purchases said material from a supplier of inferior quality materials. Thus the warranty states that it covers manufacturing defects (if manufactured by Samsung) or poor workmanship. As the problem is not poor workmanship (or cosmetic damage) in the assembly of the refrigerator but poor quality components manufactured by an assumed outside entity, Samsung will not warrant the exterior finish of this product. Samsung’s response to my concerns? Clean the rust off and apply an appliance wax to hinder the rust build-up. Really? Had I known that the above fine print was in the warranty I probably would not have purchased the unit. This is our second Samsung refrigerator (the older one very similar to the new but it had an icemaker/water dispenser in the door). The first had a white enamel finish that always look like new. Because Samsung refuses to replace the door of an almost new refrigerator I am left to wonder, do they really care about losing me as a repeat customer? Best Buy refused to help at all. The store manager simply told me that it is Best Buy’s policy to honor the manufacturer’s warranty. I informed him that this does not help me at all as Samsung has no warranty on exterior finishes. So Best Buy is going to honor Samsung’s non-warranty. Thanks for nothing. BTW, my wife and I also purchased, from Best Buy, a Samsung gas range/oven, Bosch dishwasher, and Kitchen Aide trash compactor within the last year. Do you really want our economic relationship to come to an abrupt end? Let it be known to all that Best Buy is now put on notice that they in fact know that Samsung does not offer a warranty on the exterior finish of this refrigerator. It was sold to us as having an excellent warranty and if we had any problems within the first year Samsung would fix the problem. I believe this to be true except for the exterior finish – especially if it is stainless steel. To Best Buy and Samsung: I don’t need to purchase anything from either of you. I have many options available to me. If you will not satisfy us in our desire to have a refrigerator that does not spontaneously rust, I must conclude that you really don’t care to conduct any further business with me and my family. Good day.

Love this Refrig
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have had this for 4 months so far. This is the best refrig we have ever had. Never loose anything in the back of refrig or freezer again. You can organize your freezer so well and get to everything without removing any items. We don't know of anything that could be better. It's perfect. We did read reviews before buying. We don't want any other refrig. We have been a Samsung family for 30 yrs. Never problems with their items so far.

Worst fridge ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Never buy a fridge from Samsung, especially one that has the ice maker in the fridge. We have had nothing but problems from day 1. Had repaired countless times until the warranty ran out and it still doesn’t work.

Do not buy, The worst fridge and service.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I dont even know what to say or where to begin besides this makes me not want to buy any Samsung product ever again All the poor reviews are right on about the ice maker, the fridge icing up and not cooling. These should be recalled and class action suit for sure. Not to mention the environmental impact of throwing these away after just 2 -3 years of use. I can really hardly believe just how bad this fridge is. I have lost food in fridge and freezer several times. At times it sounds like an air plane taking off in the kitchen it will wake you up and then stay that way for hours or days. I could care less about the stupid Ice maker I gave up on that long ago. Even the noise I could just add sound proofing or something but I just want cold food and frozen items in the freezer. Is that too much to ask?

Absolutely wonderful
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is so quiet that I wonder if it is even running. It makes plenty of ice and very quickly. The space compared to my old side by side is just wonderful. I am not crazy about a freezer on the bottom because I think things will get lost on the bottom but all of the other features make up for it. I have had two thermometers in it from the start to test accuracy of the temperature settings and it is always exactly as it is set. Some of the reviews were so critical that I would not let them take the old side by side away thinking that it is going to be a problem and I may have to return it, but none of those things happened to me. I really do love it.

Samsung Fridge
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Never again with Samsung. Outfitted our newly remodeled kitchen with Samsung. Ice maker is horrible and have had nothing but trouble with it since buying it. They have been out to fix it which works for a while but then stops again soon after. Have to defrost it every week and a half. Also collects water in the bottom of the fridge.

Love the refrigerator but!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the refrigerator other than the water dispensed. The water is never cold. I have never been able to get water colder than 61 F. It’s better than room temperature but not cold . I keep a water pitcher in the refrigerator to be able to get cold water at 37 degrees Fahrenheit. An alternative is to add ice to the dispensed water.

Refrigerator is fine/ service is great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The only problem we have with this refrigerator is the ice maker. First a piece broke in the auger and they replaced that right away--Go Geek Squad--friendly and courteous. Now the ice maker keeps freezing up and will not make ice. I have had icemakers in the past and didn't have this much problem. I do recommend this refrigerator with the caveat to make sure you get the warranty because of the ice maker.

Broken ice maker
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The fridge is fine and it’s spacious. The bottom glass has broken once and it wasn’t covered by the purchased warranty. But the worst thing about this fridge is that the ice maker has jammed up over a dozen times and just quits working. I’ve had to beat the inside of the frost covered ice maker (after removing ice tray) with a meat tenderizer to clear away the ice and clear the jam. I had first tried using a heat gun but that took an hour and I was afraid of damaging the parts. Then I tried a blow dryer but that was useless and would take forever. Super annoying and upsetting for a $2,000+ fridge. The glass replacement was $125 and if anything spills on the bottom shelf… it is disgusting and extremely difficult to get the glass out to clean. I’ll choose more carefully on the next fridge purchase.

Save yourself the pain and don't buy this fridge
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These Samsung fridges have a manufacturing flaw that causes the fan to freeze over and stop cooling the fridge. We bought this fridge 9 months ago and it has happened twice in the last 6 weeks were we lost all the food in the fridge while the fan had to be defrosted. If you google this problem you will see it is widespread and someone even filed a lawsuit against Samsung. We have tried dealing with Samsung to get it fixed and it has been a nightmare. Over two weeks without a fridge and they still have not come to fix it. We are waiting for "parts". Customer service at Samsung is awful too.

love it but it is loud
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought my Samsung over 6 mos ago. I love the size and the features, the noise it makes sounds like a 20 yr old frig. I read the reviews that said the noise was a problem, ignored them, assuming that they were overly picky. The noise can go from nothing to very, very loud. We have an open concept home, and the tv sometimes needs to be turned up to drown out the refrigerator. It works fine, I still love it. I'm just worried what it will sound like in 5 to 10 years.

Light Years Ahead
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Samsung & LG are far ahead in the appliance race due to technical innovation. and superb quality control. While Whirlpool & GE sat, Samsung brought out Twin Cooling & LED Lighting, etc. Bought this model 11-16. Yes the ice maker can be noisy at night- one touch and it is off. Light Years ahead of Whirlpool at a reasonable price.

Samsung refrigerator is a piece of Junk!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would not recommend this refrigerator. The ice maker has been serviced 4 times in 5 years. And recently the compressor went out leaving us with no refrigerator for 2 weeks and still no resolution with Samsung or the servece company that they sent out. I would not even give this item a 1 star review.
