I was very pleased to hear this 3.1 sound system on the store demo as the center channel worked very well at actually emphasizing the voices. At the time I was not in the store in search of a soundbar, but by chance I also hit the lowest price of the season for this unit. As I already had a Samsung TV, I decided to purchase not only one for myself, but one as a Christmas gift. After setting it up, I was so pleased that I returned to Best Buy and once again stood in front of their demo and decided to also purchase the small rear speaker system. I was connecting it when an ice hockey game was on the TV. Wow! The ice hockey pucks were “whooshing” around me as I tried to determine the best location for the little speakers. I had no idea how much of a difference they could make to the TV viewing experience. Almost wishing I had all the Star Wars episodes to re-watch! I would highly recommend this 3.1 soundbar for everyone, especially those who want full clarity in the dialogue from the TV. If you want a surround feeilng, don’t hesitate to purchase the rear (or side) speakers. Mine are on top of Sanus freestanding poles (you will need to purchase smaller size 8, 3/4 inch black bolts at Lowe’s to fit the keyholes in these speakers). Enjoy!

It has a subwoofer and the one I was going to buy didn’t. This sound bar was a little more expensive, but I got more for my money. Good sound and the subwoofer is great.

I looked at and listened to a few different sound bats at Best Buy. The staff was helpful and informed. So far, I am happy with my purchase. The sound quality is excellent and I like the feature of different sound selections for different programs (i.e, sports, movies, regular TV).

Sounds great with additional Samsung Bluetooth subwoofer and speakers (necessary). I’m sad because I have to return it to Samsung to the after 14 months. It just stopped working. Tech support was helpful.

Thank you for purchasing this Samsung HW-M550 Soundbar System.
I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with its low volume.
Please check the connection between the Soundbar and other source devices, and try the following tips that may help improve the volume level.
1. If the Soundbar is connected to a TV thru HDMI, make sure to use the HDMI-ARC jack on the TV and select “External speakers” as the TV sound output.
2. Check the audio output format sent to the Soundbar. Typical options are PCM, Dolby Digital, and Bitstream. Select the option that optimizes the sound from your source.
3. Change the SOUND MODE on the Soundbar using the Soundbar’s remote. Choices are STANDARD, MUSIC, CLEAR VOICE, SPORTS, or MOVIE. Select the appropriate mode for the individual room acoustics.
4. Turn on Dynamic Range Control. This is done by pressing and holding the SOUND MODE button on the remote control while the Soundbar is in standby mode.
