I have gone through 4 of these cords. I have had very little luck with them. Started when I got my first usb 3.1 experience. I got a Samsung Galaxy Book S. I was excited to test out data transfers at gig+ speeds as usb 2 was the fastest thing I had ever experienced before. I already had an ssd hard drive I used for my PS4 (Samsung T5) to improve load times but as ps4 was limited to usb 2 by system lockdown *ps4 slim and original only* (it actually had/has internal mobo usb 3 headers) I could never truly experience those speeds. Anyways I knew very little about usb c at that point. I assumed all chords were equal except for some cords ONLY charge and do zero data. Aside from that I thought I was good. Couldn’t figure out why I was getting the same speeds as my PS4 however on the Book S (spec’d at similar ssd speeds if not better with that Qualcomm 8cx chip) also, I used a 100W Fast Charger from Anker with PD and couldn’t figure out why my battery would drain if I attached that t5 and performing a large transfer (say 200 GB or more) while also charging my iPhone and having other accessories attached. It wouldn’t drain badly but I mean it would lose like 3% during a 15-20 min download. It’s supposed to be charging. No way I was getting 100W out of that brick. Couldn’t figure out what was going on. Then one day, while actually backing up windows to reset it to go to a insiders build with wsl2 support, the transfer suddenly crapped out. My ssd stopped blinking too.... I panicked. Sure enough cord fried. Corrupted the ssd. Lost everything. Bought a few more of these as I started researching cords and Amazon gives me nightmares with all the fake imitation cords on there. Figured Samsung was AAA so had to be premium and I was just unlucky. I used mostly all Samsung products after all. One week down the road, next cord fried. It was charging my Galaxy Tab S6 and suddenly the tab started beeping. It said the cord was charging slowly and to use original chord that came with the tablet or could risk damage. That’s funny... this is the replacement for the original chord. It’s literally the same. Hahaha. I started using the remaking two less and less. Lost one when I had a usb c hub on my desk and the Ethernet cords weight slowly dragged it off the desk. As it fell it ripped the usb c receptacle right out with it. The last cord stopped working because the receptacle was loose for whatever reason and never fits any ports properly. Eventually it just bent when trying to remove it and broke. So after all that this is what I have to say.... first off Samsung never lists the specs of these cables. Like anywhere. Yes these cords can do PD but not to the level that they claim. I found I usually maxed out at around 20W on most... which explained the battery drain on laptop. Next, the data rate is not usb 3.1. These are usb C 2.0 cords which are meant for power only. They still transfer data but only at usb 2.0 speeds. Hence why I never saw speeds faster than my PS4 speeds. Last these cables are extremely flimsy. They also feel cheap. I thought that was just how usb c cables were at first. Now I know better. The usb connectors are very light and flimsy and bend easily. The cord itself will tear at any slight tug. They also tend to get stuck inside of ports. Had this happen many times on numerous devices. Stay away. You are better off buying Anker or Cable Matters or Godspin or Amazon Basics usb cables. I have had very good experiences with all of these brands. What you want to look for a cables to literally state usb 3 and type c official standards. Those are as follows: 1.)For PD charging and data/power simultaneous cables at 3.0 or better speeds looks for mention of emarker chip. 2.) for cables longer than 3 foot, look for mention of “IF Certified.” See true usb or better cables have issues with length. Anything above 3 ft and your speeds and power start to degrade rapidly. For example, I have a usb 3.2 gen 2 cable that is rated 10 gbps by the manufacturer However it is 15 ft long and is not IF certified (meaning uses higher quality components) well that 10 gbps ends up being around 450-600 mbps most of the time. Also it states it is capable of 100 W. I measured it. It only does 35. Anything longer than 15ft you need a booster chip or repeater chip included in the cable or it’s needs to be fiber optic or you need to have it connected to an additional power source like a usb hub that is self powered. Long review but I hope this helps people avoid what I did. Shame on Samsung for these cheap cords. In fact overall stay away from cords at bestbuy. Most don’t follow industry standards. They only sell becuase they are “name brand” supposedly. The only cable I have ever found at Bestbuy that I actually approve of is godspin and they don’t even carry godspins best offerings.
