Sound bar wouldn't work with TV

I also bought an optical input only sound bar that would not work with TV's optical sound output. After trying different ways to connect itr with its fiber optic cable (which did transmit light and seemed to be OK) I returned the sound bar for a refund. The TV sound sometimes is a bit off, with music too loud and voices too quiet, but not enough of a problem to get a different brand sound bar. Right now now gas, groceries and electric bills with the A/C on all the time have priority.
