I liked the curved in shape which gives you an immersive feel when playing games. The monitor also has an earphone jack on the back so if it is placed at a distance from your desktop, you can plug in your headphones up and close in the monitor.

Great size, great price, is curve necessary?

Personally, I think the curved screen is just a gimmick that I wouldn't pay extra for, but this one was both on sale as well as a customer return, and was therefore less expensive than other non-curved monitors in stock. I have always liked Samsung video products, my main TV is a 65 inch Samsung, also from Best Buy, and I love that as well.
