I purchased this TV to replace an old Plasma TV that has decided to stop working. I brought it home, hooked everything up, and much to my surprise the remote controlled not only the TV but it also controlled my Amazon Fire TV box. Everything was well and good for the first couple of days, but then the TV started brightening and dimming the TV screen by its self even with the automatic settings turned off. Now the picture looks washed out too. The TV is getting boxed up and returned today.

Purchased this TV 30 APR. Around 1 AUG the screen started to flicker and randomly turn off. By 9 AUG it won't even turn on. Bottom line, if you are in need of a TV for less than 90 days you'll find no better TV!

    Decent 4K UHD Smart TV

I finally decided to upgrade my old HD TV but wasn't looking to spend alot. When it comes to brand I usually go for Sony or Samsung. I went with Samsung this time because the price is what caught my attention. Good timing too because I've been hearing about all this UHD and HDR terms out there and felt like I was behind. So far I'm impressed with the picture quality and ease of setup. I kinda messed around with the picture settings and found my liking with the help of other users on forums on setting it to have the best quality. Use the "Movie" setting and not "Dynamic" as that is only good for display purposes at retail stores. Some tweaking of other settings and you are good to go. Thing that I was kinda let down about was I eventually found out that this is not True HDR, it's close but from what I can see so far and read, it's not. Not a deal breaker being that it's used in my room and not in the living room and I'll be mostly playing games on it. Again on the HDR I've havent really test it out yet as I've yet to play more HDR content. So far I've watched HDR content that is streamed and I know internet speed and can play a role in this as I know my interner is not that fast. I'll probably download a HDR movie and go from there or later when I get a player or my Ps4 pro. Other than that I'm happy with my purchase mainly because of the price and the quality picture I'm getting for it.

Outstanding picture, easy to setup and a great price. This is my third Samsung TV and they keep getting better and better with the picture quality. I can't believe this is only a $400 TV. Great TV for a bedroom or small rooms. I've read many of the other reviews and I don't see any of the problems that some people are seeing. First I'm not using the TV for the sound nor am I using the remote that comes with the TV. The setup was very easy and quick, it took me 10 minutes to get it out of the box, screw on the stand and plug it in. The brightness is great, I actually had to turn down the brightness. Get this Samsung TV for $400 you can't go wrong!

This is my third Samsung TV, LCD, LED, and now the 4K. I read professional reviews and some said you would not see a difference but I did immediately! It took a little time to adjust the picture (contrast, sharpness, color, etc) to fit my preference, but now it is great! I love the SmartTV part where I can just scroll along the bottom to get my internet and AmazonPrime.

    Very Good, Budget Smart TV

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First off, it was extremely difficult to find good reviews on TVs in this class. I found a few, but the best was on rtings dot com. My overall impression is that this Samsung (I'll call it the 6300 from now on) is a good TV. I haven't sampled them all, but based on reading reviews of every TV in this class, I believe the 6300 is the best TV in this class at <$400 (bought on sale before Christmas 2017). I considered the next step up in Samsung's lineup (the 7000) but it's significantly more expensive and for my purposes I felt the 6300 was going to be fine. And it is. Glad I went w/this one. A 65" QLED is in my future, so I may opt for a premium-priced TV when I pull the trigger on that one, but the 6300 fits my 40" needs nicely. As an aside, it seems Samsung and others aren't interested in building the videophile product in the 40" class. You won't find the cutting edge features that you will with the more expensive, bigger (50" plus) class TVs. On to the review. The refresh rate is 60Hz. Everything I've watched, including sports and action scenes, looks fine. I have nothing to complain about so far. 4k/UHD. Most of the programming out there (I have DirectTV, Netflix, AmazonTV) is 1080p and this TV does well. I checked out a 4k UHD video on Netflix and it's quite stunning. Almost looks 3D to me. No complaints so far. It's noticeably superior to my older 1080p Samsung 55". Haven't done any gaming yet, but I believe this TV received high marks for gaming using an XBOX. So I expect high quality here. Smart TV interface. Not as good as my Insignia w/Roku. Roku is simple, easy, and just plain good. Best I've seen. I wish Samsung had it. But what it has is good enough, and the more I use it the easier the interface gets. Remote. At first I didn't like it. There aren't many buttons, and I wanted my Direct TV remote back! But the more I used it, I discovered that it does most everything my DirectTV remote does. There are a few things, like my playlist access, that take a couple of more button pushes than the DirectTV remote. But I'm going to stick w/it for awhile and give it an honest chance. If I had to pick one now, I'd go w/the DirectTV remote for all the DVR/DirectTV programming functions. But I'll wait to make the final decision. Speakers. Actually not bad. They seem better than the speakers on my older Samsung 55". But I have an awesome Vizio sounder w/Sub, and I don't have too much listening time w/the internal speakers. But given what I've heard, they would be acceptable for everything short of audiophile quality listening. Summary. Overall, I give it 4 stars. If I could give 4.25, or maybe 4.5, I would. It's a very good TV at the $400 price point, and it was a bit cheaper on Black Friday/Cyber Mon. But I wasn't ready to buy. Do your own research, but after thoroughly looking at what's available at this price point, with 4k and Smart TV, I'm convinced I made the right choice.

    Nice picture, Frustrating Remote

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I installed 7 of these in a dental office recently, and while the TVs have a nice picture, the dentist and staff absolutely hate the remote. Their comment was "It's just not intuitive!". For instance, changing inputs requires navigating through several steps of the menu, when it could have been as easy as hitting a "source" button, like it used to be. Selecting a channel by voice command can be frustrating with the different accents and voices of the different staff members. They end up yelling at it in frustration, which is embarrassing in front of patients. Browsing the web with voice control is also very unreliable. It can't understand a command like "You-Tube", even by somebody with perfect English. The client wants to return them and get a model that has a more conventional remote, or for another brand altogether. .Sometimes, it's better not to reinvent something that doesn't need to be improved. Just give us our buttons back!

Love our new Samsung - 40" -LED-2160p-Smart-4K Ultra HD TV! Perfect size for our entertainment center and has most of the latest features, all of which are adjustable once you figure out the remote and onscreen menus. Amazing color, picture, and HD. As others have mentioned, the remote is a bit disappointing--small and should have been backlit, but we only use it when making adjustments. Otherwise we use our Xfinity remote. This TV replaces a smaller 8-year-old Samsung that still works great. Highly recommend this brand and TV.

Buy this 4K for an Office Monitor and TV!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Buy this television! I just purchased a new HP OMEN desktop computer and wanted to get away from the use of multiple monitors for my gaming experience. (On my desk I still have my 24" Apple i-Mac, and 27" HP / 23" Acer monitors for my work setup, but wanted a large single monitor for gaming and personal use.) This television offers me excellent colors/shades at 60Hz for high-end games, I have the resolution set to 3840 x 2160. I compared to a 43" television but that was actually just a bit too large for comfortable viewing from about 2 feet away, and hard to see the far edges/corners. 40" is perfect for my needs!! If you are considering using a television for a monitor for your desktop/laptop then this is the perfect television to do that with. As a bonus now, I can swap over and just watch television at my desk on this tv and the images are bright, clear, and so detailed. Loving this television! I compared for several weeks against Sony, Sharp, Acer, LG, Vizio, and others... never have I had a bad experience with Samsung products! $399 on sale is a very reasonable price for what this tv offers. The only differences between this 6300 and the previous version 6290 are a) the smart remote (so much better, with voice controls) and b) the built in Bluetooth capabilities on this television to offer you connections to broadcast/link to the television and speakers, phones, tablets, etc. The 6290 is currently on sale for $329, so for me the extra $70 for these two key features was a no brainer!

    Great TV, an annoying problem

I bought this TV about a year ago now. When I first got it I was extremely pleased, it is very easy to set up, the base is MUCH more sturdy than any other TV I have owned. The picture quality is unbeatable, the sound is fine, it has all the inputs and outputs I need, and the WiFi works well. The only things that really are bothersome about it is the smart part. The Netflix app just doesn't work sometimes. You have to re set the whole TV and even then it still crashes sometimes. Overall, I think it will be worth the price if Samsung can figure out this problem with Netflix.

I spent some time visiting stores to find a good value 40" TV. My primary need was to find one that I could stream video content to from my iMac, without the need for an accessory such as an Apple TV, Roku, Firestick or Chromecast. I use Plex to stream content to a Tivo box in one room of my house, but I wanted to network a second TV with a larger screen. Luckily I discovered this Samsung Smart TV. It's Tizen operating system works great with Plex. When I plugged in and set-up this TV for the first time, the first thing I did was look for the apps search. Within minutes I downloaded the Plex app, and voila! My Plex content was available immediately. Perfect! Ditto for Netflix, HBO Go, the Starz app, YouTube, Spotify etc. It's all I could have hoped for, and the picture and sound are what I was looking for too. Also - this model has bluetooth connectivity which I hope to use in the future with wireless speakers. I think the remote is great too. Perfect TV, at a great price. My only reservation when comparing models was that this TV was said to suffer when viewing at an angle as compared to other models (Sony). I was concerned because my set-up is primarily side-viewing angles. However, it has not been an issue for me and I hardly notice a quality drop-off. I didn't even think I wanted a Smart TV, but am so happy now that I chose Samsung.
