    Great Picture and Features

I always go with Samsung, because I had LCD model that is 240 Hz and have it for over 3 years now and is running great with no issues. I have been reading reviews to try 3D and like this one because of the price and features. The picture is amazing!!! specially in 3D. The smart apps are nice feature to have and would be great if Samsung throw a wireless keyboard along with this TV because using the remote for the keyboard is a pain.

Great features, but terrible picture quality!

Short version of my review: Let me first start out my review by saying this: If you are not used to watching a plasma TV, or a flat-screen TV at all, this is the TV for you! The color of the picture is vibrant and bright, with decent black levels. However if you have a plasma now, or you want the best picture quality, or just want to see my full review, PLEASE keep reading! I went to upgrade from a 50" Panasonic plasma TV (GT10), which was an amazing picture quality. I was looking for a 55" LED TV, and preferably a high quality one. I did not care too much about the Smart TV or 3D at first. I simply wanted a bigger, lighter, LED TV. The reason I bought this particular model with all of the features above was because I thought it would give a better picture quality then the Samsung 6100 series, which has no Smart or 3D features. This was my thought process behind buying this TV. I was very excited when I brought this TV home! It was incredibly light (compared to a plasma), and VERY thin! The screen was VERY bright, although sometimes a little too bright! Unfortunately, my attitude changed fairly quickly once I started testing this TV. Here are some of the tests I ran. 1. Avatar - This movie has some amazing colors, mixed with black and grays in many scenes. The TV worked extremely well in bright colored areas. The black levels were adequate, but the gray levels were terrible. I believe this TV only has a 2 point grey scale, which is noticeable. The TV often fluctuated in brightness, and this was semi-fixable when you turn off the Eco modes in the picture settings. However, after fooling around with the setting for hours, I could not manage to get the picture to look anything like it did on my plasma that I was upgrading from! 3. Brave - A very colorful animated movie. I had 2 problems with the TV watching this movie. First, The main character is a red-headed child. The colors were so bright, you could not see any details in her hair. I had to adjust the brightness a lot to get the details back. The second problem I had was image blurring around the edges, and shakiness when the movie showed landscapes of mountains. I played the beginning of the movies a few times to make sure I wasn't seeing things, and the TV did the same thing over and over. I will note however, once I turned auto-motion plus on, this shakiness went away. (This was a problem for me since I hate all versions of auto-motion) 2. Call of Duty modern Warfare 3 - This game is a high action game with a lot of black and dark colors. My main complaint with this TV was the blurriness when moving. In a game like CoD, you are constantly moving and zooming in to shoot enemies. This was very bothersome. When you look left to right, up and down, or in any direction, you just get a HUGE BLUR! I am very tech savvy, so I know this is because of the refresh rate. Every LED has a 60Hz native refresh rate, and can add black images to "smooth" the picture while movement is happening. Even at 120Hz, it was still a lot blurrier than my plasma. I expected a little blurriness, but it was more then I could handle. (I had similar results in Halo 4) 3. Tron - (The deal breaker) - Tron is a great movies with a lot of action, and lots of black levels everywhere! I used Tron as a test for the TV since I hear a lot of complaints about black levels in LED TV's. I thought the black levels we adequate, but the grays were BAD! The worst scene in the entire movie was during the "disc fight" about 20 minutes into the movie. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE! The scene is 5-10 minutes long, and the entire time there is a crowd in the background. The crowd was just grey specs EVERYWHERE!!! No matter what I tried, I could not get the graininess to go away!!! I turned the brightness down, played with advance settings, and even turned the LED back-lights off! Turning the back-lights off did help, but then why am I buying an LED TV, instead of an LCD? On the plus side, the brighter parts of he screen looked AMAZING! The colors popped and looked vibrant! 4. Hugo - A great video to test any TV. It has lots of colors, close-ups, and plenty of places to test black levels. While watching Hugo, the TV irritated me to no end... The picture CONSTANTLY went darker and brighter. I turned all of the Eco settings off, and played with all of the settings to try to fix it. Nothing worked. One scene where it was very noticeable was when Hugo brings Isabelle back to where he lives for the first time. When they start the Automatron, the film goes back and forth between Hugo and Isabelle and the entire time the screen got brighter and darker. As far as features, the Samsung Smart Apps worked well, and the software was fairly quick to respond to commands without a lot of lag. The 3D was decent, but I noticed a bit of cross-talking and image blurring at certain spots, but nothing too terrible. Overall, the features were by far the best part of the TV! As a side note, I use a custom surround sound system, so I didn't care about the speakers much. However, they seemed to have typical TV speaker sound when I did test them. In conclusion, this is a great TV if you don't know anything better (sorry if that sounds mean, I'm not trying to be). However, if you are a Tech savvy viewer, coming from a plasma to this TV, DON'T DO IT!! You will be disappointed. Same your self time, and just get the Panasonic plasma ST50 or GT50 instead. Both are around the same price as the Samsung, but the picture quality is 100 fold better. Also, both the ST50 and GT50 are slim, just under 2 inches thick, which is the same thickness as this LED. The only downside of the plasma TV's is the weight. The Samsung LED is around 40 lbs, and the Panasonic plasma's are 60 lbs.

    Major disappointment:(

I do not write reviews but I feel obligated to do so because of the disappointment we feel after looking forward to enjoying this TV. We were looking for A Smart TV with great picture, full web browser, at least 55’ with 3D from a reputable brand for a good price and we thought this was it. ALL below statements are based on the Friday-Sunday experience with this TV model # UN55EX6500FXZA – it was on sale at Best Buy. I also wish to say that there was no false advertising on the part of Samsung or Best Buy- no one talked us into buying it..we knew what we wanted to get when we walked into the store. You just have to use the TV to discover its flaws The picture is indeed great- very nice picture- we watched Olympics, movies, regular TV, football, basketball- all looked great. ..however, that’s where the pros stop for us. 1. Full web browser NOT!- Do not be fooled- for some reason, Flash player is not included so you are limited to sites that do not require flash player. Don’t expect to be surfing the web as you wish. If you go to such a page, your session ends abruptly- you are hit with an error msg and taken back to the home page. 2. Keyboard- You will need to get a wireless keyboard to be able to surf the web because the remote is just a headache to use. We did get a wireless keyboard (not Samsung) but the other catch is when you access the Youtube App you HAVE to use the TV remote . You can access youtube via web browser and use the keyboard that way but the picture quality is not as good as it is on the app 3. Speaking of YOU Tube app.. You have an option to Search or go to MY youtube to access your account. Since we have a Youtube/google account, we tried MY Youtube- that took over 10 min to load so we gave up. We have very FAST internet connection and it only happens when you select MY Youtube 4. 3D- the glasses are not rechargeable. 5. The sound quality is poor. . thank God for the home theatre 6. We were willing to put up with the issues mentioned above but on day 3 (Sunday) the TV started going off and on by itself . We called Samsung and the troubleshoot didn’t work. I am sure they can fix it or send us a replacement but if this happened on day 2 of having the TV! . .needless to say we are returning the set today and will not exchange for another Samsung.

This television is excellent when working properly. Unfortunately the one we bought had the motherboard go bad after a couple weeks. Samsung eventually fixed the problem but it took over a month for them to get a technician to the house. Now that it is fixed the TV works great. It has a very sharp picture, great sound quality, and the wireless internet works flawlessly. Great features using the internet. The TV is also very light compared to non-LED televisions which was helpful because I had to set it up myself. I know that my hardware issue is an anomoly and that Samsung is generally very reliable. I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a new flatscreen

I bought this TV as a replacement for my 55” Samsung 3D Plasma that went south after just 1 year and could not be quickly replaced. Thanks to the BB Extended Warranty on the Plasma, I was given a credit and walked out only paying a couple of hundred dollars. I hardly ever buy extended warranties. Sure glad I did this time! Even though I downsized by 5”, going from Plasma to LED is a huge upgrade. Not only is it a lot lighter and uses much less electricity, the picture quality is much better than my old plasma to include the 3D. My only complaint so far is that this TV only has 1 component/AV in connection which required me to buy a component video selector so that I could hook up some of my older components. Overall, I’m 100% satisfied with this TV.

    Best bang for your buck!!

This TV is by far the best value for your money on the market right now. I contemplated getting the 7100 over this model but was not convinced that the extra bells and whistles were worth the extra $500. Comparing this to models that are 240 hz you cannot tell a big enough difference to pay more! I have played multiple games and watched a half a dozen movies since I bought this TV and they all look great. When I first bought this TV I thought the color looked washed out but they recently released a firmware update that improved picture quality which helped A LOT. Don't judge by the in store model. This TV is AWESOME! 3D movies, sports, and games look great on it!

The picture quality is really good once you calibrate it. Out of the box it isn't bad either, but I recommend calibrating it if you want the best out of this tv. The black levels aren't super deep, but given that this is a lcd-led tv, I didn't expect them to be, but still it's decent enough. The speakers aren't bad either, they're as good as you'd expect from tv speakers. I really like the look of the stand, some people might not, but I think it makes the tv look thinner than it is. Overall this tv gives you the best bang for your buck, if you're shopping for a lcd-led tv.

I did my research on all brands and prices, Best Buy has a great selection and better pricing than other competitors. I am Very happy with my samsung smart tv. I love the 3d option, great picture, great view from every angle. Sound quality is great as well. Easy use of the menu options, and my tv came with 2 pairs of 3D glasses, and it's thin. .My samsung 55" smart tv class led 1080p 120hz 3d HDTV is my best buy, and consumer reports approved.

I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for one with a great picture & internet features plus Samsung has made themselves a quality player in the TV world. The 50" version of this TV was just a little too small so I exchanged it for this 55" which is the perfect size for me. & the Best Buy employees were very helpful & understanding while making the exchange a pleasant experience. The picture is great, especially when watching live TV but I wish the sound was better. Two speakers point directly out of the bottom & I have found that placing a nice small shelf a few inches under the TV with it mounted on the wall helped to redirect the sound towards the viewer instead of downward towards the floor. The wireless connection was very simple to connect & I really enjoy the apps & internet browser but I am going to buy the wireless keyboard remote next since entering in a search item is very slow using the remote. I wasn't looking for a 3D TV but this one came with it & I am finding it extremely difficult to find any 3D content so don't think you will be able to run to the redbox or blockbuster & find anything to watch in 3D.

I didn't goto bestbuy to buy a 3d TV, I went to buy a smart TV. They didn't have it in stock nor the Next model up I had reviewed this item and knew the specs but didn't think I would use the 3d feature so the sales rep. Who was very helpful and told me I quote "nobody that comes here for a tv goes home without one" he reduced the price slightly to make it closer to the price of the 2 I had originally had decided to purchase. So I purchased it. I couldn't be happier with my decision and with bestbuy's associates and customer service. I've found that the 3d feature is awesome I have purchased several movies in 3d and already owned several Xbox and ps3 games that are compatible with 3d. This in my opinion should be one of the major selling points, video games in 3d are so different it makes older games worth a second looks gives them new life. The remote was easy to program with my cable box and with the Samsung 3d bluray player there was no programming required. This is a great tv and I would highly recommend it.

I bought this TV because of the smart TV capabilities. I had purchased a 55 inch Samsung 2 years ago. I was very impressed with the picture quality. That is why I purchased another one and always wanted 3D. I also bought it when it was on sale so I was able to save quite a bit of money.

I was convinced to buy this when it came to my friends living room. The picture was incredible and I have decided to purchase it then. His model didn't notice if his was a smart tv but I do know that his didn't come with the 3D feature. For the price I thought it was a great buy. The picture was incredible out of the box and after calibrating it was even better. My wife who isn't into these things was even impressed. If anyone is looking for a tv with a great picture for gaming or movies this is it and for the price it can't be beat. I've also got a ton of movies on my hard drive, this TV lets me connect my Hard Drive to it's USB port and view them. It plays both .AVI and .mp4

I have no complaints about the TV, though I have hardly used the internet feature, other than Netflix and Pandora. When it converts a 2d program to 3d, it is generally a good quality picture (except for X-Files from Netflix - not so great). I HATE THE GLASSES! They are flimsy, don't stay on your face very well (unless you have a nice round one, which I don't), and don't block the peripheral at all. I am about to be trying out some aftermarket ones as these are so pathetic. You would think they would put just a smidgeon of effort into the glasses, but they just tossed these in as they realized they forgot glasses. Otherwise, I like it. I do wish it had more ports for the old school RCA inputs, as my other equipment is not from the modern era. But I am getting around it. I love this TV.

I really like this TV. I started off by purchasing a Samsung 55" LED and even after turning off the motion controls(I HATED the animated look that it gave everything), I still was not that thrilled with the picture. I guess I just though for the money that it would look better. Ended up returning it and getting this panasonic and I've been pleased. It's not as bright as the LED was but I like the clarity better. I'm not a fan of 3D and I don't want everything to look animated. I just wanted a very clear, sharp, NORMAL picture. Maybe I'm outside of the norm! Sound sucks and crackles due to the tiny speakers, but I bought a sound bar to offset that. Seems that all the new tv's(plasma or LED) are so thin now that they all have tiny little speakers which sound terrible.

I purchased this television from Best Buy because it looked great in the store and I liked the smart apps idea. That the TV is 3D was only a bonus – that feature was not very important to me. The picture quality was excellent in the store however, when I got it home the picture was less than stellar. In fact, we returned to Best Buy asking about this and were informed that we could pay an additional $250 for the Geek Squad to come out and ‘calibrate’ our TV with special equipment that would give us the best possible picture from the set. We were disappointed that we spent this much money on the television, a new digital stereo receiver, and several HDMI cables only to be told that the picture quality we expected to take home with us was still $250 away. We seriously considered returning the set and going elsewhere. I started looking around on the internet and found a great video on YouTube about tuning/calibrating your TV without the need for the equipment and a trained specialist to operate the equipment. I will include the link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rB1WMnCh4iM This 30 minute video is well worth the time. It explains that any DVD with the THX logo on it has a setup feature within the DVD that guides you through several tests to make your picture better. We grabbed a very old “Finding Nemo” DVD, which wasn’t even a Blu-Ray DVD, and voila! The tests are, indeed, on the DVD. There is one test that requires “Blue Filter lenses” to conduct, so we skipped that test since we didn’t have those, but I was able to order a pair for $4.99 (including shipping) from the THX website. To make a long story short, watching the video that I provided the link to above and performing these test brought out the type of picture quality that we expected when we purchased the set. When the Blue Filter lens glasses arrived, I performed the one test that I had omitted previously. So we were able to tune our TV for a total of just under $5. We are now extremely happy with this purchase, but wish that the Best Buy personnel could have been more helpful when we were considering returning the set. I recommend Samsung as your HDTV vendor… but be advised that factory settings are not always the best for home viewing.

Had this tv about 4 months now. Just now got picture looking good and bright with out looking fake. Tried movie picture to dull for me. I have found best picture left in standard picture mode. Best if you put contrast on about 83. looks so much better like that.. Also go to system settings then go to Eco Solution then Eco Sensor and turn it off. This keeps picture looking real and does not dim it as it looks fake like that.. This picture setting looks bright and great for me.. Any questions contact me.. Good Luck.
