    Good Picture... With Issues

I've had this TV (UN55KU6290FXZA) for a week and here's my opinion thus far. The picture on this TV is stellar. Dark movies, fast-moving sports, colorful landscapes, all come out looking pretty nice. It looks like everything gets upscaled well. Many video sources tested: Cable box, OTA antenna, USB thumb drive, external USB hard drive, DVD player, VHS player, Laptop via HDMI, video apps installed on the TV (YouTube/PlutoTV). All worked as they should. You'll want to tweak the video settings a bit out of the box, but overall, the picture really is great. The audio is definitely above average. Much better than my previous TV's (2011 & 2013 models). It still sounds better through an external surround system, but the TV's speakers are more than adequate on their own. I haven't tested the included video apps that require account logins (Netflix/Amazon Video/ Hulu), so I can't comment on these. And now, the issues: There are several options on this rig that are supposed to work, but I haven't been able to get them to. The MLB.TV app is a dud. The first time I logged in with my password, it gave me about three seconds of live video before it blacked out. Every time since then I get to the daily game screen, but when I choose a game broadcast, I get the "cannot connect to the server - try again" message. After re-loading the app, now i can't even type in my login info without it freezing up. Judging by the online complaints about the Samsung version of the MLB.TV app, it's had issues for a long time. The mirroring option not only doesn't work - it crashes my modem. I installed Samsung's Smart View app on my laptop which is supposed to mirror content from the laptop to the TV. The app shows both the laptop and the TV connected to the network, but when I try to link the two, the modem crashes - requiring a complete reset of the modem to be able to get back to the internet. And FYI: Direct Wi-Fi (mirroring directly via WiFi without connecting through the network, bypassing the modem) doesn't work with an iPhone - so there's that. The included web browser works. It's kinda clunky to navigate with the remote (probably would work better with an external keyboard) but trying to view Flash videos through the browser does not work at all. Apparently, the browser requires a Flash update, but you can't download and install it yourself. You have to wait and hope Samsung addresses the issue in a future firmware update. Now, it's entirely possible that *I'M* the idiot here and these options are just too much for my simple brain to comprehend... but I doubt it. The "minimalist" remote is kinda annoying. If you like scrolling through a ton of menus and options to get to the one setting you're looking for, then you're in luck - this is the remote for you! But I prefer a more robust remote with buttons on it. Samsung gets a lot of flack for their customer service and shoddy build quality on some of the online forums, but in all honesty, this unit is beautiful, sounds great and is a bargain at the price - even WITH the options that don't work as they should. I would still recommend this set to a friend.

I recently purchased the LG 55UH6150 and was "ok" with the purchase. it was in my price range and thought it looked pretty good. I continued to read (bad) reviews and tweak my settings. Again I was happy with it. Then the KU6290 went on sale and I thought I'd give it a shot and return which one lost my comparison test. The KU6290 is hands down a MUCH better TV. The blacks are perfect compared to the LG's "gray" blacks. After I calibrated the 6290 I'm in absolute heaven. The KU6290 has minimal glare when compared to the LG 6150 as well. This is a great sub $1000 4K TV and have not a single complaint. Though you should take all reviews with a grain of salt, I wish I wouldn't have wasted time with the LG 55UH6150.

Excellent TV. One year to old to be compatible with a few streaming apps but I can hardly be mad at it for that. Picture is great. Refresh rate is great. Have never had trouble with phantom images that stick to the black screen.

Great TV, have had many people ask my where I got it and they love the crisp picture. They couldn’t believe it was $499. Have had zero issues and it’s going on seven years! Great product.

A fantastic value in a UHD television. The picture and sound quality are phenomenal. I think some of the poor reviewers are put off by how lifelike it makes some programs look as unless the shows were filmed in HD, they often look like bad '80s sitcoms. The fast refresh rate also shows how poorly edited some films are which some may find annoying as well. However, the picture and sound quality make watching HD movies fantastic!

Great TV, but remote is lacking

Firstly, I also own a Samsung 60" 6300, which I LOVE. I read reviews, which most of recent ones said this has the smart remote (I have smart remote on 6300 TV and love it). I was in store and asked associate what difference was between 6290 and 6300. He said 6300 had a "slightly faster processor, but it's hardly noticeable", and that's it. I asked if it had they both had the same smart remote. He said yes. Well I get it set up, and turns out the remote for 6290 is NOT A SMART REMOTE..it just looks the same. It does not control your cable box, soundbar or blu-ray player (both of the latter are Samsung). So I have to shuffle remotes every time I want to control the volume or change the channel. Although the picture is great, and I do like the TV, I wish I would've waited for the 6300 to go on sale for the same price and got that.

This is one GREAT TV, easy to set up and a joy to watch! The only factory setting I changed was to turn off the screen dimming feature. I thought my 2-year-old HDTV had a super picture although the sound wasn't very good, but this Samsung UN55KU4290 has a truly wonderful picture and the sound is as good as you can get. The on-sale price was right in the area I was considering, and overall I feel that I made a perfect purchase. I'll try to remember to do a future update if anything changes.

Samsung delivers a great 4K TV for the price!!!

Awesome 4K TV at this price range! Samsung has about 3 other models in this size and I didn't see why I needed to spend the extra $100+ dollars. Your 4K picture is only as good as the source you are running through it. You may have to fine tune your settings but this TV delivers once you get it set. The stand is a bit annoying with the V-Shape ( I prefer the flat base). The remote is a bit different too. Overall, a good 4K TV. Until cable puts out in 4K and FULL 4K bluray player prices go down, you should be fine with this unit for a while...that is until the next 4K technology hits the shelves!

TV comes with smart remote, like the 6300, the only difference is that this does NOT have bluetooth, however the HDR 4k at 60Hz is very nice. There is noticeable jitter in the picture, but coming from a LG 3D top of the line plasma unless you have 120Hz native or 240 motion rate you would notice it. The picture and pixel quality is definitely extraordinary and for $700 if you're in the market is definitely a great price for this TV

That this model does not come with the Universal Remote Control: just a standard one. This could be a game changer for you. I originally purchased the 50 inch model, of the 6300 line, which did have the URC. I had it all set up and was truly impressed with integration. We decided that a 55 would better fit our space then saw the 55 on sale for 50 dollars more. Made the purchase nearly instantly, with plans to return the 50 inch. Fast forward to receipt of the new set, and I was perplexed by why I could no longer control my cable box with the the URC. Turns out the URC isn't included with the 6290 series. It also appears some of the smart Hub features are crippled as well, as the set no longer recognizes my cable provider as "Verizon," instead just showing "Cable" as a media source option. Still impressed with the set and recommend it...if you don't want the URT feature as well.

This tv is pretty nice and has even 4k display. I have mine mounted on a wall and fits pretty well with the mount. Has a great picture and sound but the only thing that gets me is how small the controller is. I got use to it but you should see it first. One more thing, when you playing on your console or computer you should but this in gaming mode because you'll notice the space between the movements of your image from your controller to you tv, its kinda slow in response when not on game mode.

I was very skeptical of a 4K smart TV for under $700 but the description of features, size and price fit perfectly into my budget for the intended use. After completing hook up I was amazed when I turned the unit on and saw the picture. Crisp, clear and excellent color rendering. TV has more than enough HDMI ports but would have been a nice feature if Wi-Fi/Blutooth was present for hooking up my Samsung soundbar but unit does have digital audio hookup. Would not hesitate to recommend this TV to anyone looking for a GREAT 55 inch picture at a budget price.
