Good picture quality but buggy software

Even after downloading the latest software and updating the OS, the built-in apps don't work very well. For example, the built-in Amazon Fire TV doesn't start unless you completely unplug the power from the TV and then plug it back in. I have to do this every day if I want to watch Amazon. Also, the closed caption settings don't stick. You turned them on, and the next day are off again. I only hope they fixed the OS soon. Really frustrating! Otherwise it would be a great TV.

If you are still experiencing app freezing or not working properly, you can try cold booting your TV, updating your TV's software, deleting and downloading the app again, and a completing full reset of Smart Hub to correct the issue with the app.
Here are the step-by-step trouble shooting guide to get you started:
1> Cold booting your TV with the remote or the plug
A cold boot actually shuts the TV down and reboots it, like restarting a laptop. This can solve issues you may be having with apps, glitches in the menu, picture issues, etc.
Hold down the Power button on the Samsung TV remote until the TV turns off and on again. This should only take about 5 seconds.
Or unplug your TV from the wall outlet or surge protector, leave it unplugged for 30 seconds, and then plug it back in.
2> Update the software to the latest version
On your TV, navigate to Settings > Support > Software Update, and then select Update Now.
If an update is available, it will automatically install and the TV will reboot. If there is no update available, select OK. Make note of the current version that is displayed on your TV screen to the right.
Sometimes, new software versions will be available on Samsung.com before they are available in your TV's Support menu. The latest software version can be downloaded from the download center by selecting your TV's type and model.
If the version on the website is a later version than the one displaying on your TV, follow these steps below:
Download the update and extract it to the root of a USB thumb drive. (Do not put it in any folders on the thumb drive.)
Connect the USB thumb drive to a USB port on your TV.
Navigate to Settings > Support > Software Update, select Update Now, and then select Yes.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated software.
3> If the app is still not working properly after you go thru the above, delete the app from your TV and download it again.
To delete the app, Navigate to and select Apps, then select the Settings icon.
Navigate to the app you are having an issue with and select Delete. (If Delete is grayed out, this is a recommended app. Select Reinstall instead.)
If the issue is still occurring after you reinstall the app, you may have to reset the SmartHub by following this guide:

I tried every setting but it still looks very dark when trying to watch movies on Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon. It does actually work very well with my Playstation 5! I have an older Samsung that is LED, 3D tv from 2014 that looks a lot better than this QLED. I'm not sure why Samsung added this local dimming feature and I wish you could turn it off completely! The Dynamic setting is not as bright as my older tv? I have until January 2021 to take it back.I'm not 100% sold on it. Has anybody had any luck with the settings?

Thank you for purchasing the Q80T TV and for your review. I am sorry to hear that you are not happy with the brightness levels of your picture. If the colors on your TV are correct but just a little too dark or bright you can try Dynamic Picture Mode, or manually adjust the Brightness settings to your liking.
Dynamic Picture Mode will make pictures brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments. Go to: Settings > Picture > Picture Mode > Dynamic
Or manually adjust the Brightness and other settings to your liking. Go to: Settings> Picture> Expert Settings
You may also want to disable Power Saving Mode which automatically adjusts the brightness to reduce the TV’s power consumption.
Go to Settings> General> Eco Solution> Power Saving Mode.
Ambient Light Detection will also automatically adjust the brightness level of the TV, according to the ambient light level, to reduce power consumption. If Ambient Light Detection has adjusted the screen brightness to a too bright or dark level, you can select Minimum Brightness to manually adjust the minimum screen brightness.
Go to Settings> General> Eco Solution> Ambient Light Detection
Please also be sure you are running the latest firmware. You can check to see what software version your TV is using and if there is an available update through the settings on your TV. Go to: Settings>Support>Software Update. (1460.9 released on 12/7/20)

The picture is beautiful and the sound is very good. To understand the features of this TV, I recommend that a user go to the Samsung web site (www.samsung.com/us/support) to view the extensive user information there. I really like the remote that comes with the TV. Once I learned how to use it, I find it easier to navigate than remotes with a large number of buttons.
