Netflix great; Broadcast not so much

Purchased this 65" TV after reading the reviews on CNet. After viewing it for weeks, I realized that the upscaling just doesn't convert cable broadcasting well enough for the price. Now, when you use any movie app like Netflix the image is unbelievable. You see everything perfectly as it was up close & personal with no lag. The 3D is also exceptional, but the battery in glasses last only a couple of movies. So, if you don't mind a lackluster cable broadcast (Verizon fios) than everything else is solid. To conclude, I returned it & am waiting for a newer model, or 4K to catch up.

This TV is quite amazing and takes TV viewing to a new level. As with any of the new TV's I would recommend that you either download and study the manual before it arrives or schedule the Geek Squad. The TV is actually very good at leading you through the steps of the setup what I spend more time on was being assured that I had the desired compatibility between the TV and my other components. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this TV is really great.

Great picture quality once CNET settings are dialed in (very close to plasma). The remote is awesome, much better than the Wii-like unit that comes with current LGs. Games play well with input set to DVI/PC. Input lag decent and totally playable (unless you are a serious 24/7 gamer). Hope this helps.

I LOVE my new TV. I am definitively not a technical guru but I do know my way around quite well. I was having issues trying to get this synced with my home theater receiver and all my other equipment, but after some fiddling around I was able to get it all to work. Been trying to get the best picture possible and I think I achieved that last night while I was watching Pacific Rim. It looked and sounded like I was in a theater except I was on my couch. Picture is amazing. As for sound from the TV I can't comment since I won't be using it. Tons of extra features and apps come with the TV.

Overall, after having the tv for about three weeks we are extremely happy with it. It was easy to unpackage and set-up, get a wireless internet connection , and connect to a Comcast Dvr set-up box. Also it recognized our Yamaha rxv-673 receiver by name and all the components attached to it. The program guide also downloaded with no issues as well as an update for the television itself. I was also impressed with the TV's speakers because most smart TV's have lousy ones as to be expected. (99% of smart tvs are connected to home theater systems). The picture is a huge improvement over our Sony lcd 55 inch set and blows it away with 4k video. If you buy it you wont be disappointed at all

absolutely amazing TV. First of all the clarity and color are fantastic. Upscaling for HD cable TV is great, and 4k is superb. My wife isn't a photo/video nut like I am and was dubious of the 4k difference, but even she acknowledge how much clearer it is. Have streamed 4k Netflix (additional cost but looks nice) and will soon try the 4k directv service. Added bonus that DLNA works better than any other recent Sony or Samsung Bluray player. With wired connection to Servio, this is very smooth with very rare buffering in middle of videos. Also has been compatible with all movie types I've tried by DLNA and USB, which isn't true for Apple TV.

Not cheap, but an excellent set! I did need to exchange the first I received, though, due to alignment issues causing excessive flashlighting and edge lighting. Second set worked great! Coming off a plasma I was worried about picture quality, but other than the occasional scene you hardly notice a difference and the color quality is exceptional.

    Buyers Beware...

I finally settled on this TV after debating between it and the LG 65UB9500. Needless to say, I was disappointed, and ended up returning it a few weeks later. First off, flashlighting. Horrible. There might as well have been spotlights blaring from the corners of the screen. This is a common thing on LEDs, but this one was bad. NOT GOOD. However, I have to give credit where credit is due, and the picture quality was spectacular when showing bright scenes, which is why I still gave it 3 stars. What really drove me to return it was the fact that it only has an 8-bit color depth, or Rec. 709. From what I've read, a 10-bit color depth (Rec. 2020) is going to be the UHD standard. A 10-bit color depth allows for over 1.07 billion colors, while an 8-bit only allows for 16.8 million. To put that in perspective, a 10-bit depth can show almost 60x as many colors as an 8-bit... After doing more research, I found out that LG was the only manufacturer of the "Big Three" (Sony, Samsung, and LG) to use a 10-bit panel. I picked up the LG and...wow. The difference was night and day. Right out of the box, there was no more color blocking, the image appeared crisper, and the colors were vibrant and natural but not overly saturated. I had both the Samsung and the LG professionally calibrated by the same person, and the LG blew the Samsung out of the water in terms of clarity and colors. The calibration guy agreed, too! Don't be swayed by the Samsung name. I myself came from a Samsung, and have bought Samsung TVs my whole life, until this point. I could have gotten a lemon, but since I have to base my review off the experience I had, this TV is most certainly not the best for the money. Take a look at the LG, and make sure you do your homework before buying a name! Good luck!

I bought this tv after a LOT of research, I really wanted the 4K curved Samsung TV but cost was just too high for me to actually get it. This TV is a really nice TV, the smart tv apps and features are really cool and make life lot easier using them. However, when connected to my U-Verse HD cable box i was not overly impressed with 1. Regular tv show picture quality 2. HD tv show picture quality....it is NOTHING like the picture quality you see in the best buy store that is for sure. I even used the Cinnamon Audio Quest HDMI cord to connect my U-Verse box and TV picture quality is still just meh. Waiting for 100 hrs of tv viewing time to pass then going to call geek squad for calibration..will let you know how it turns out after that..

i was stunned at the really great picture i saw at bestbuy with the demo stuff i saw at the store. i asked for the best tv they had and this was the tv the sold me on, i asked several time do they motion blur he said no!. im a huge nascar racing fan, and ive always had plasma tvs. the tv has a stunning picture super easy to set up. but as i watched blu rays and the motion blur is so bad at times i had to turn off the movies it got so bad. i exchanged it for the 8000 series samsung curve led. that will be here monday.

Best TV I've owned to date

I decided to try the new 4K line of TVs to satisfy my never ending thirst for home theater equipment. My first choice was a Sony TV but I wasn't happy with the PQ. It seemed like the picture wasn't sharp enough for my tastes. I then decided to try the UN65HU8550 due to al the great reviews on BB's and several other websites. The PQ of this TV is awesome. The ability to stream 4K content from the built-in apps like Netflix is a major plus in my book. This was something my Sony couldn't do by itself. I would have had to spend another $700 on their extremely overpriced 4K media player. Samsung has always made great products and the 8550 line of 4K TVs are another great example.

Unless you like Video only, don't buy

In the store, the picture IS incredible. However, the display model shows ONLY video, not what a film or movie looks like. The 4K conversion TV's make EVERYTHING look like VIDEO, NOT FILM. This is very disconcerting for those of us who appreciate a beautifully filmed movie suddenly turning into what looks like it was filmed in video instead. As a long time film aficionado, I found this surprising and very upsetting. This may not be what every buyer wants. Because of this immediate reaction and upset that I didn't realize this when purchasing, I have no idea about the internet features included because I don't wish to keep this TV. My husband wanted the newest technology, but I did not understand what this new technology was meant to do. Again, unless you want all your channels to look like sharp, yes it is sharp, video instead of the way a film was meant to be seen and enjoyed, then this is not the TV for you. This technology will not be what you will want because this is this technology's purpose. Yes, the video on sports and live TV is incredibly sharp, but also having a refresh rate of 120 HZ rather than 240, the picture does flutter a lot on this big of a screen. Since I always buy from Best Buy because if I find something unexpected or wrong with any purchase, at least I know I can return /exchange it for another great product with no hassle. Now, if I can just convince my husband, since he doesn't understand that changing a beautifully filmed, classic movie into video is NOT the thing to do, then I will be exchanging this one for the Samsung 65" Smart TV with 3D that sells for $1,100 less as well. Why pay for something you are not going to be happy with that has a specific and more expensive feature???

    Stunning Picture

Looked and researched for a very long time before jumping into the world of 4K. I was torn between Sony and Samsung, but with having a Galaxy Note 3 and the desire for Samsung Note Tablet, I chose the Samsung and I'm glad I did. The ability and ease of projecting my phone onto this tv amazes me. Just hit "screen mirroring" on the phone and the tv changes input automatically, and when you close out "screen mirroring" it goes back to where you were. The picture is fantastic when upconverting 720p or 1080i to fill out the amount of pixels in the 4K panel. The picture is just stunning when it is fed a 4K signal. The menu is easy to understand and navigate, and with all the entertainment options available, it has me thinking of doing away with my satellite. Spend the money to get the higher end model, it is well worth it. Happy viewing!

    Beware of SAMSUNG Panel Lottery

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Recently purchased this TV. The quality seems OK. But I have recently found out that SAMSUNG has multiple sources/makers for the main viewing panel. In other words, if you purchase this TV, the screen you are looking at may not be manufactured by SAMSUNG. Unfortunately for me, the screen version I was delivered was a 'QS04' which was manufactured for SAMSUNG by a company called CHIMEI INNOLUX . The research I have performed so far has shown that this panel version is inferior to the SAMSUNG screens. This is unfortunate since I spent ~$3,000 for what I thought is the best money can buy. I called SAMSUNG to request an exchange for a TV with a panel manufactured by SAMSUNG but was denied. Caution when you enter this SAMSUNG "Panel Lottery".

    Defective Sound

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this TV a month ago and after 4 attempts by Samsung's technicians to repair the defective sound, they still can't fix it. Even worse the last technician tried to get me to just purchase a sound bar to hide the fact I received a defective TV. He also tried to convince me that the speakers are supposed to sound that way. I let him know I'm not as ignorant as he may think I am. I am also having issues with the refresh rate making the image jerk or vibrate. I had asked 2 separate executive representatives to add that complaint to my repair ticket and of course, the repair technician had no such notes on his paperwork when he came out. Samsung is refusing to replace the TV, but luckily I purchased it during the holidays when Best Buy has an extended return policy. The image quality is really good. I was hoping for a bit better as the video they show you on their display was amazing. There just isn't enough 4k content out there yet to show off what this TV is capable of. I see a lot of shadowing and blurry background when I'm watching something less HD. I'm hoping I'll find a good replacement.
