    I have both MU8500 and MU8000. MU8500 wins!

I thought I was crazy when I was looking at the MU8000. I couldn't believe the difference in picture quality. I spent the next couple days trying to dig deep and find out what is the difference, why is the MU8500 different and how is it different if Samsung claims both TV's have the same technology. Finally figured it out and it was two professional reviewers that talked about the difference and this small feature made a world of difference in quality of the picture. The MU8500 actually has a built in a depth contrast enhancer don't quote me on this, I know it's called something different) with the curve that the MU8000 doesn't have. I have the MU8000 and MU8500. I bought both because I had to see for myself which one was better and if curve really had an advantage. After viewing the MU8500 for a few weeks and switching over to the MU8000 (Flat). I was shocked at the difference in picture quality. The MU8000's quality of picture is horrible. Artifacts everywhere, ghosting, flashlighting. The blacks were grey and washed out, etc. I did a few comparisons. I flipped on Forza Horizon 3 on both TV's and the MU8500 popped out, almost gives a 3D immersion feel. The blacks were dead black and whites were eye piercing white. The MU8000 looked good but felt like I was looking at a computer monitor. Artifacts in the blacks, washed out. I tweaked the settings of the MU8000 for an hour trying to find the sweet spot and could never achieve what the MU8500 provides out of box. We then threw on Stranger Things and compared the same episode on both TV's. The MU8500 was amazing, like being in the theater. It popped out at you. Colors were deep, the blacks were pitch dark, no grain or artifacts, no sign of washing out. The MU8000 was surprisingly washed out, glitchy and tons of artifacts in the blacks. They claim it's the same technology but it is not. The MU8500 adds one important tech feature that makes all the difference and it's included to help with the immersion of the curved screen. A world of difference. Had my family come in and dad to see if I was crazy and they saw it as well and everyone voted Curve without any hesitation. Put them side by side NOT at a box store where they pump out demo video. Side by side with Netflix, PS4/XBOX and you'll see a major difference. If you have a choice. Get the curved. There is a difference. One feels like your at a theater, it's immersive, pops out, almost feels 3D at times. The flat just feels flat and like a monitor once you've tried the curve.

TV worked great for 2 weeks but on the 14th day, a vertical line appeared in the middle that progressively got wider in the days that followed. There is nothing wrong/ no damage at all externally on the TV, yet was told TV had physical damage by both Best Buy and Samsung and refused to offer warranty!

I was looking for a replacement TV and I already have a couple of Samsung’s I’ve been happy with. I have a 1080p 32 inch for my home office and a 55" 6300 model in the bedroom. So I thought I would get this 65" 6500 curved version, it was on sale and I had a 10% of coupon. Got this home and it’s a great TV, colors pop and it looks great. However something in the background of mind ws unsettling, it seemed to blur on motion, not unwatchable but still noticeable and the colors while great didn’t pop, really pop. I was out and about the next day and bast another BB store, they had the 55inch 6500 on display and 55” 8500 right above it, both playing the same feed. The 8500 refresh rate is double that of the 6300, the 8500 HDR is 10bit the 6300 is hr1000 not true HDR. There was subtle differences, the reds and greens where a lot brighter, they popped, the blacks had a lot more detail in them and the motion blur was a lot better. Had you not seen them together you would not notice, however once seen you can not unsee, I ended up exchanging the curved 65” 6300 for the curved 65” 8500 and I’m really happy I did. There is a lot of debate on flat or curved, Samsung add some extra features like depth enhancement, again if you can see the same model side by side there is enough deference to justify the extra cost which is about $100 now. The display is crisp and clean, do some google research to set up the best picture you really can make a difference. Out of the box it as the soap opera effect which is too sharpe and false looking. I have a Xbox One S plugged in as a 4k HDR Blu Ray player and the movies are great, bright detailed. This is a great display, I’m glad I upgraded from the 6500, the colors are just wow, they pop, blacks have so much detail. If you play games, this is the display to get the motion blur 240 is just great on games. Highly recommend.

    Good Not Great TV

IT is difficult to call this tv Bad by any means. The picture is fantastic and (and can be changed pretty drastically using the build in settings). It features all the buzz words indicative of a higher end tv and certainly looks better then the class below it. The Vizio M series did not look nearly as good for certain and lacked HDR for instance. All this being said it is also hard to fully recommend the tv. At the sale price (in the 1400-1500 range) it is a solid tv, at the normal price of 1600-1700, it becomes harder not to just fork over the extra 200 or 300 for an LG or Sony. I have listed a brief pro vs con as to where issues arise: Pros: -Great Picture -Great brightness (i do consider this seperate from picture for a wide range of rooms) -Beautiful design (the tv itself looks fantastic in a living room, i get regular compliments on its aesthetics.) -separate box for inputs (very convenient to only run 1 wire to the tv, and be able to hide all my hdmi's behind the tv or cable box below. Cons: -The smart features are very hit or miss (more below) -The remote is too devoid of features, i can appreciate simplifications but everything requires a menu to accomplish and way to many button presses to get anywhere. -Why are there ads on a TV I have already paid for. (its mine, don't advertise to me on something I own...) For the extra bit on smart features. The are great when they work, but that is very hit or miss. The Youtube app in particular will freeze regularly, will collapse all the thumbnails into one, won't let you move up or down (that one is always fun). I actually went a few monthes through customer service to get my youtube unfrozen since the only way to do it was unplug then replug in the tv (even powering off didn't work). I then learned you could hard reset the tv by holding down the power button, but this just simply shouldn't happen. Netflix and amazon look great but take forever to load (I have 250 MBps download, definitely not my internet.) I will say that if picture quality for price is what you are looking for, this is a great place to land. it looks as good as 2000 dollar LG's and Sony's for 500 bucks less. But if you want the full experience of the tv without any hiccups, look elsewhere.
