    Not impressed

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Initially I was impressed with the TV, but now that I've had it for a week, I can not recommend this TV to any of my friends and here's why. First off the pros: • The picture does look good/great, but this can vary drastically as with any TV based on the source. • The packaging and the overall design of the set is nice. The cons: • HDR is not impressive AT ALL. I paid extra because I wanted an HDR set. All I ever read is how great HDR is, but I can't even tell you when it is running. I finally noticed if you go to the settings menu and look at the picture source when it is playing HDR there is a little HDR next to it. I read on line the older sets use to give you a pop up notice letting you know it is displaying HDR. The simulated HDR+ button it has makes the image look worse, not better in my opinion. • This TV doesn't work well with a Harmony remote. I own a very expensive Harmony Elite remote and I have to use the included TV remote with this TV to access its smart features and apps. I have several Roku TVs and I can set up scenes to run netflix and such, but not with this one. • The APPs suck. This is not an Android OS, it is Samsung's OS and the support and variety of APPs are limited. This is probably one of my biggest complaints. For instance, although Sling.com is available on this TV, they have yet to integrate their DVR functionality into the Samsung APP. The first APP I downloaded doesn't even work. It just freezes every time I open it. I tried deleting it and reinstalling, but no luck. • The one connect is flawed in design. Although a great idea, it is not clear how to set it up to work properly with a surround sound system. My old TV had all my components going through the surround sound receiver and then a single HDMI to my TV. You can't do that with this because then your sound will only play what input your receiver is set to, not what APP you run on the TV. For instance, you are watching TV, but then decide to turn on Netflix. Well if you set it up the traditional way, you will hear the TV sound and not Netflix although the screen is displaying Netflix. But, if you go through the one connect the TV doesn't automatically switch between surround sound decoders. I rented a Blu-ray disk that only had DTS sound and it wasn't playing in surround sound. I had to dig through the menus in the TV to figure out what was wrong. It turns out I had to manually switch it to output DTS instead of Doby Digital. This brings me to my next complaint: • The instructions or lack of in this case is BY FAR THE WORSE I HAVE EVER SEEN. You would think setting up a TV is simple, but not with this one. There is no clear understanding of how to get the most out of this TV. My earlier complaint about the one connect and surround sound may not be valid because I may not have it set up right, but I have no idea. I found a e-maual on the TV, but it is a joke. You go to look up how to hook up the set and it simply says, plug an HDMI into an HDMI. Nothing about how you have to change the color to turn on HDR, nothing about how to get it to play in surround sound properly. •The remote is limited, too limited. It took me two days to figure out how to not just pause a movie, but to stop a movie. Also, it can't control my volume because I have it outputted to a receiver. •The stand is cheap. It comes off and hides the cords, which I thought was a great idea, but it doesn't stay on with the cords in it. It is as if it is broke. I had to use tape, yes tape to keep it on. •No smart things hub. I thought all the newer sets were getting smart things hubs, but this doesn't even have the app on it. I haven't checked to see if my current hub will integrate with it at all yet, but I didn't see a STs app in the store. If all you want is a good looking picture, this set may be for you if you get it on sale, but honestly I wasn't too impressed with the HDR. I think you can save more by skipping it. If on the other hand you want a comprehensive SMART TV that is up to date with its APPs and features, you should skip this TV.

Great 4K TV for games and movies

This TV is definitely an upgrade from my 50" Sony non-smart TV. Took a while to get settings adjusted for watching movies and playing games, but once you do it looks great! 4K movies look great. Streaming can cause some smearing in darker scenes. Xbox One S and PS4 look great on it and plays well in game mode. Input lag is high if not in game mode like any other smart TV.

    Amazing Tv

So, i had a samsung 4k tv before, bought about 5 years ago, didnt have HDR becuase the HDR units were too expensive. Decided to upgrade to this tv. LOVE IT, never knew what a difference HDR could make. I watched Terminator 2 4k HDR and was BLOWN away. The picture quality is amazing, even on HD channels. the only gripe i have with it is the HDR+ which seems useless, it dims the picture and makes it not as bright. Also for some reason when i use netflix or youtube videos, it will turn itself on and i have to go into settings and shut off. Over all, i am glad with this purchase. I was debating between this and the Sony tv that was on sale, the saleman talked me into this one and im glad i did. The One connect is nice too, dont have thousand wires running. Just wish the unit had a usb 3.0 port and a headphone port.

    Simply Stunning!

This is absolutely one of the best values in 4K for a 65” TV. Picture is stunning and vibrant and handles a room with a lot of natural light really well. I have it connected to a Sonos playbar via the optical out and it really adds to the total cinema style feel. Piece of advise: for those that have mentioned a issue with advertising content, when you initially set up, do not just check all. Avoid checking the box for advertisements content and you’ll be all set.

I bought this tv and it was everything I hoped for. The picture quality is amazing with 2160p 4K ultra HD. It is hard for me to watch other TVs after seeing what a real picture should look like! Smart TVs are the way to go now and make the experience that much better. It was not too heavy to maneuver and my house is the place to go for any sports games.

I just received this yesterday and it was a BREEZE to set up and program. I suggest watching a lot of YouTube videos first to help with unpacking, set up, etc... I have three Bluetooth speaker devises set up and they work awesome. There is no "delay" from the person talking and you hearing the words like there is with iPhone and Bluetooth. Love everything about it.

Disappointing viewing angles and BB experience

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

So my wife and I spent several days researching televisions and decided to get a first hand look at some of the TVs at Best Buy. The Samsung MU8000 stood out for its price and amazing picture. One thing we noticed is the viewing angle was decent- something that al led tvs struggle with to a certain degree. At least that’s how it looked on display. Even the Best Buy rep told us Samsung is known for excellent colors and better viewing angles- again something we could see ourselves on the display model in the store. We bought the tv and our excitement went to immediate disappointment. The viewing angles of this tv are flat out horrible. If you are sitting directly in front of the tv it looks great. However, 2-3 feet at an angle and the picture loses color and contrast. It’s not even watchable. We don’t have a large living room and don’t really require a huge viewing angle. But again, sitting about 2-3 feet away from the center of the tv and it looks horrible. We decided to go back to Best Buy and see the MU8000 again and test the viewing angle there just to confirm the poor angles. It looked much better on display. So I spoke with a Best Buy rep and he said the tv must be defective or I need to have the tv on the “vivid” setting. This led me to be even more confused since the tv has no “vivid” setting. So we decided to give the tv another day or two to see if we can get past the shallow viewing angle and adjust the settings to improve it. If not we will return the tv. So unless you plan on only having 1-3 seats directly across from the tv I would not purchase. Furthermore, I feel like Best Buy has reps that don’t really know the products they are selling.

From unboxing, through setup, it was a seamless process. Working without issues for 1 week now. Great picture and adequate sound given TV integration. Hopefully my luck holds out with no long term issues. I replaced a 55" Samsung which is now in the bedroom after 3 years and it too has had no issues either.

I'm big on live action sporting events and this TV did not deliver. I was suckered in by the 4K images they show you in the store but that is NOT what the picture will look like at home when watching regular TV. Too much blur on footballs and tennis balls flying through the air and even on the players themselves. Sound is awful so sound bar is a must. My 2009 55" Samsung delivers a better picture and sound so I couldn't justify spending $1,600 for the extra 10 inches. Having said all of this, the picture isn't terrible but it certainly was not an upgrade from what I have. I will wait for OLED prices to come down and for more 4K content to become available.

    Disappointed

I was reading all the good reviews that this TV had and it’s been years since I purchased a TV, coming from a 55ES7100 I was really excited. Running brand new audioquest cinnamon wiring and upgrading my cablevision box, purchasing a PS4 Pro I was ready for 4K. Once I powered it on that’s when I was disappointed. How is it that my 55ES7100 1080p 240hz looked a lot better then the 65MU8000 4K? I Started to play with the picture display while I was watching ESPN, first thing I noticed was the “blur” in words, then I noticed it while replays of football was on. Then I went to the movies Channels, fast 5 was on, even worse. I turned on to play COD it wasn’t as bad as live tv but still noticeable then switched to play Destiny 2 and still the same. I’m not sure if it’s that my ES7100 was a glossy screen and made it look sharper since I’ve never had a matte screen, even my 46C6300 bed room tv which is even older looked better. Heading now to Best Buy to return it, I’ll maybe purchase the 65MU9000 since that’s a glossy screen, still deciding since that went back up in price.

    4K TV Blues

I bought The 65" MU8000 to replace my old 65" Mitsubishi Diamond series rear projector from 2003. While in the store I strugled to decide between this TV and the Sony x900e. After getting the TV home and setting it up it is worlds better then my old TV although just about any tv would have been an improvement. I found myself quickly having buyers remorse. First hit was my Harmony remote doesn't support the new tv so I am back to having several remotes. After getting the TV set up I scrolled through the Apps looking for something to watch in 4K and quickly found there wasn't much there. Netflix had a few 4k shows and so did amazon but no new release movies in 4K. The next day I found myself back at best buy purchasing a Roku player so we could watch new releases in 4K. After all is said and done I am only slightly pleases with the TV. I am considering returning the TV and buying the 2016 model (KS8000) that is $800.00 cheaper (Amazon). Also on rtings.com The Sony x900e and the KS8000 both rated better than the MU8000. It is odd that the 2016 model out performed the 2017. I should have done more research before buying.

So I just got this TV few days ago. I decided it was time to replace energy sucking 9 yr old Panasonic plasma TV. Features on this TV are great, but picture quality is bad comparing to my old plasma. There is not enough brightness and sharpness. Looking at 45 degree angle picture gets grey. Turning on HDR makes things even worse. Brightness will adjust based on ambient light but it is too dark. I was watching game last night and just couldn't stand it. Tried everything. Even after adjusting picture it, after a while it would go back to some other setting. I tried disabling it, disabling everything with no success. Ended up watching game on my bedroom 40" Samsung 1080p. I'm really considering returning this unit.
