    Beautiful Colors, Terrible Quality Control

I purchased my Q9FN a couple weeks ago (AA01 panel) and it has a couple dead pixels, significant vertical banding as well as DSE while watching hockey, other sports or scenes with solid colors and motion. It is extremely distracting. A service appointment was setup for October 9th, between 12 and 4 to look at the TV. On October 9th, I was called by the service department to let me know that the appointment would need to be rescheduled because they ordered me a new panel which they would be replacing, and they didn't get it in time. I commented, asking why they ordered me a new panel without first coming to physically look at the TV. They replied that the photos I sent in were enough to show/prove my defects and that the new panel will fix all of my issues, and that once the part comes in, I will get a call to reschedule my service appointment. Angrily, I commented that I took a full day off work for the appointment, but I am happy to hear that it will be fixed. I received a call on Friday, October 12th, that the panel part has come in and we rescheduled for Tuesday, October 16th, between 12 and 4. It is now October 16, and the technician came to my house. He agrees that there is indeed a dead pixel in the center of the screen as well as uniformity issues creating a dirty screen effect. He said the panel would need to be replaced. However, Samsung has now come back and said they will not be fixing it because it is within spec. That is completely unacceptable. Not only did I spend $3500 on your flagship television, you admit to me that it has defects, yet you will not fix it, even after rescheduling my original appointment telling me you would. Not only will you not fix it, I've now wasted a day and a half of work (which I will not be getting paid for) because you guys made me reschedule my original appointment. I was lied to. All of the TVs in my house are Samsung (5 of them). I have only ever purchased Samsung televisions. My cell phone is a Samsung. My DVD player is a Samsung. After this purchase I am seriously considering NEVER buying Samsung again. Upon further inspection, after the technician left, I found a 2nd dead pixel not far from the first one. In speaking with the technician when he was here, he said there needs to be more than 1 dead pixel in order to perform service. Well, now I have 2 and we both missed that one while he was here. My case has been reopened so hopefully it will be properly taken care of this time. I was told by a Samsung rep that to reduce the defective banding and DSE to drop my back-light down to 5 or less. This TV goes up to 50. For a flagship TV touting bright, vivid colors and HDR, back-light is needed. Of course the defects diminish at 5 or below because you can barely see the screen. It's like saying that it's OK and within spec to buy a brand new car with scratches on it with less horsepower than advertised. Apparently the FA01 panel is a real Samsung panel and all others are outsourced, but getting an FA01 is like finding a unicorn. Besides these gripes, the TV's visuals and colors can be absolutely stunning. Watching 4K HDR content makes you want to climb through the TV. The quality control is just atrocious.

Great picture... as long as it's not a dark scene

I'm that guy! I get these questions all the time. Why does my phone not work? Why am I having so many problems with my tv? My response to that is usually; "You know what's wrong, It's a Samsung!" When I was finally wanting to upgrade my tv; all the best reviews pointed to this one. I didn't want to spend as much as I did on this new TV, but thought maybe it would be worth it, even though it's a Samsung. Long story short, I was wrong! The tv has the ability to look amazing. It's just Samsung's stupid firmware that sucks. After a few hours, yes I said hours; the tv started dimming really bad on "dark" scenes. At first we thought it might be the show we were watching; but shortly after learned this wasn't the case. It appears to render dark scenes as needing to be locally dimmed as in black as night. It would literally turn off the zones and we would have a black cloud over the majority of the screen; rendering parts of shows/movies unwatchable. We weren't having it, so we called Best Buy and told them about it, and they agreed to replace the tv. Of course knowing the potential of this tv, I asked them to actually replace it with the same model. A few days later the new one got dropped off and they took away the original. First thing I did was test the dimming zones. Well crap, this new one does it too! So before I completely give up on this tv, and Samsung as a brand; I start messing with the settings. I turn on Samsung's lower quality version of HDR, called HDR+. Holy cow the screen got super bright, and I had to squint until my eyes adjusted. Well after a few minutes of testing, it appears to be working. No more local dimming issues, and we will just have to get used to squinting during brighter scenes. So we are all good now... Or so we thought. A few hours later, the next issue arose. I started seeing the back lights flicker near the bottom of the screen. It looked like random lights twinkling behind the screen. At this point I was like, "Oh heck no!" I tried restarting the tv, and it did seem to go away; but for how long is the question? I really want to like this tv, and I was hoping Samsung could change my perspective of them as a brand. However, it's not going to happen today, and it's not going to be with this tv. SHAME!

In short, if LCD LED and OLED were to merge and have a baby, this would be the result. This TV is capable of getting quite bright, while maintaining dark black levels close to OLED quality. it doesn't have the all the way side angle viewing ability like OLED has, but the viewing experience of this TV is wonderful....especially when it comes to 4K HDR content, movies and games alike. and speaking of games, REALLY low input lag...pc monitor quality even. This is a TV made in mind for a multitude of use.

    Disappointing

I bought this tv with grand expectations. In store it looked absolutely gorgeous. Since the dawn of HDR black levels have gotten super close to OLED levels. But I was disappointed because my tv had the dreaded one box issue. In case you haven't read about it there's an issue where, after a firmware update, the one connect box will not recognize anything that is attached to it. I looked for solutions for hours and only found people who had worked on the issue for months and were trying new HDMI cables, new one connect boxes, new fiber optic cables, and eventually (this is the final solution that worked and occasionally temporarily) had to have their main board replaced in the tv. I was not willing to go through months of troubleshooting to get my, at the time $3500 tv to work (the price has come down 500 dollars since I bought it and 1000 dollars for the 75 inch model, coincidence?), because at that price point I expect a fully functional tv. I think it's an absolute shame that this tv is continuing to be sold at this price point, with this flaw, poor quality control, and no permanent fix in sight. I bought the Sony A8f and have had no issues. I REALLY wanted this Samsung tv to be great... so badly. I've posted this review on many Samsung posts for this tv, a message to their customer service, and now here. I still have yet to hear a response from any Samsung rep or customer service as of 7/27/18. I do not recommend this purchase. You've been warned. There are MANY issues with this tv.

    Garbage and Waste of Money

I bought the Samsung Q9 2 days ago after doing a ton of research on the best picture quality. Nothing beats the picture on this TV in my opinion. I was super excited when I got it home and got it all set up. Set up was extremely easy and the remote is pretty cool. Like the fact that there is only 1 cable that goes to the tv with the 1 connect box. Unfortunately not even 48 hours after buying it, the TV started turning itself off and on every few seconds. I tried unplugging everything, new batteries in the remote, factory reset (after a few tries it finally stayed on long enough to do this) and nothing worked. This is a $3000 TV that is absolute garbage. Couldn't even last a full 2 days after purchase. Called Geek Squad and they confirmed that they have had a ton of issues with Samsung TVs and most of the other big name brands. Absolutely ridiculous that a $3000 tv would have this major of an issue. I don't trust Samsung products at all after this, it will be going back asap.

    Beautiful Television

This Q9FN is an outstanding TV. I bought it as my dedicated gaming set . I’ve been using my 65” LG Oled C6 I bought new in 2016 and while that tv is still fantastic and is still going strong, I decided to get something brighter that still retains decent black levels. Well this tv doesn’t just have decent blacks, it’s almost as good as my Oled, but gets twice as bright and is way more colorful. If I had to choose between this and an Oled I would choose the Q9FN hands down. It just does everything so good it’s hard to beat. From the picture to the way it looks, it’s just a beautiful piece of tech. Now the Oled sits in the living room as my movie tv.

    Great TV.....when the power works

Best TV I have ever had, crisp and clean picture, best 4K display and HDR use I have ever seen with my Xbox One X and 4K Blu-rays....HOWEVER, the engineering of Samsung's 2018 QLED models have a MAJOR flaw. The One Connect box houses the power supply and power cord to the wall socket and then distributes both power and audio/visual to the TV via an extremely thin optical cable. The TV then turns on and off by itself and shows no display issue sometimes when powering on!! The most frustrating thing ever!! Look on the Samsung forums if you don't believe me...most 2018 QLED owners have the same issue. I replaced the optical cable, had the same issue, then had the Samsung tech out to my house and he replaced the one connect box, optical cable and main motherboard inside the TV, guess what? SAME ISSUE!!!!! I am also convinced this is just not a bad TV, but that even if I replaced the TV with another it would have the same issue since so many other people on the Samsung Forums have had nothing but problems with this same power issue. I am in the process of getting a refund through Samsung. I can't deal with a TV that has a mind of it's own for the next 7-8 years, Especially one that was $3,700!!!! Too bad because when it works, it is awesome!

    TV Professional

I would like to consider myself a TV professional. I tend to know more than most store employees because I read all the time. I have owned about 5 Samsung flagship TVs over the last 12 years. I researched the Q9FN and LG E8 for weeks leading up to my purchase. I pulled the trigger on the Samsung. Initially I was pretty pleased. If someone tells you the black levels don't almost match OLED, they are lying to you. I ran all of LGs test videos on the Q9. Out of the box my TV had a problem with the panel. About an inch around the perimeter, colors were faded (see picture) Samsung was out twice. Once to access and once to replace the panel. It fixed the problem but the image quality went down and the viewing angles became horrendous. So bad, that I could mean to the right and left of center and the colors would wash out. My TV came with the AA01 panel (Version listed on the side of the box). This is the AU OPTRONICS panel. Samsung panels are FA01,2,3. It is my understanding that as the year goes on your chances of getting a samsung panel go down. I returned and went with an LG E8 and every quality control aspect is perfect. Zero complaints.

To start, I was always a Samsung person. I already own 3 Samsung LED TVs. I bought this TV in December 2017 to replace our living room TV. I have to admit the picture is great and the operating system is nice. However the TVs are built very poorly and something is wrong. The 1st TV I got the bottom right portion of the screen burned out by Feb 2018, My TV got replaced buy the place I bought it from. The second TV was a mess, by April 2018 it will Literally shut down and lose all power buy itself, stay down anything between 30 minutes to 2 days then work fine. I have to say I wasn't impressed by Samsung's customer service, each time I call them they go sir did you do the troubleshooting!!! After several calls they set a technician to visit. The 1st tech told me they never saw the TV and dont know how to service it Great!!! Had to wait another week without a TV to get the 2nd tech which is according to Samsung a Master Tech. Changed the one connect box & optical fiber cable in early May 2018. By end of July the problem was happening again, long story short a 3rd tech came mid August 2018 changed the main board, one connect box and optical fiber cable. That is basically almost the entire TV. By early September 2018 the same problem was happening!!! Luckly after fighting with Samsung a lot I was able to get my Money!!! Bought a Sony and never going back to Samsung after this experience!!!

I bought a 65JS 9500 3 years ago. Fantastic tv until the screen went black a month ago. LED back light failed. Samsung did agree to fix the tv if possible, however the parts for a 3 year old tv are no longer available. I was told twice that a representative would call me within 2 days. Did not happen, last online chat with a rep that basically called me a liar! I have been a loyal Samsung fan for tv's, phones, smart things, no more!

Samsung first problem setup manual "STINKS"! They have a one connect box for it but hookup information not enough! You would never be able to hook up with information they give you! No paper manual for tv that might have cost them a dollar to print! All tv have manual on off so you could operate without remote! Theirs is on the bottom front screen and I do mean the bottom of tv. You can not read the buttons and if you did not see in manual you would never find them!
