Color accuracy problems; Black is just ONE color

Rtings had this set as one of the better bargains in the mid price range and I bought the 75” on Black Friday prices. I realized though there are so many intangibles and some inaccuracies in Internet reviews. Another YouTube channel called HDTV describes the Q6FN set which rtings calls marginally better than this set as having its brightness turned up too high. I believe it’s the same with this set, the nu8000. Don’t get me wrong, this set is great in every aspect, but picture quality is just not there. I think with the OLED craze, it feels like everyone bases their whole reviews around blackness levels and that’s it. Well, Black is just ONE color and I don’t think you see black that that much except in menus. This set seems to have decent blacks, not great, and the remote and OS are fantastic. I was loving this set for its price and value WHEN I was setting up. Auto-Detected my PS4 pro and PS3, and though it didn’t detect my cable box, I manually configured and the remote now controls all. I did get free trial month Sling tv but this set had no Sling app. A bit meh on Best Buy part. So, everything was good, until, I turned the set on. And then the brightness problem. Most light portions of the picture turned to globs of light white - no detail. As I said, tv reviewers rate blackness but don’t seem to rate other intangibles so much. Why focus so much on black but not white? The whole set constantly looked like it had a white hazy lit fog in front of it. Well, why not turn the brightness down, you ask? Well, when you do that, it destroys colors and crushes blacks. The youtuber HDTV remarked how Samsung dials up the brightness above what content creators intended so that probably it looks better at the store. Second problem was, the famous Samsung green. The green color on Samsung sets are absolutely atrocious. When you tune the gamma from green to red, then the pic tends to turn way too red before the horrid green becomes acceptable. I’m talking every blond to brown hair/head to dark circles around people’s eyes all having a tinge of green. It’s extremely annoying. Short of it, I was thinking of changing to the competing sets one price level up and one size down, like the LG sk9000 with an IPS panel which has problems with blacks and contrast but probably has better colors and wider viewing angles. Notice how that set is universally derided by reviewers but loved by actual buyers? Intangibles, as I said. A tv isn’t just numbers. Is blooming that bad? I don’t know, but my gut tells me it’s only really relevant in dark menus, and I care about watching shows, not menus. As I titled this, afterall, Black is just ONE color. I don’t know why everyone is so fixated on this. Apple had great success for years with IPS on their phones vs Samsung OLEDs for years. And few people ever complained about the quality of Apple displays. Or the Sony 900F, which is a great set except with a horrible broken Android OS that users report consistently crashes. The TCL 6 series has the panel lottery issue as well as being a off brand. While the Vizio P series had too many reviews saying the set failed and Vizio service issues. In the end, after 2 days of fiddling with every picture setting on this nu8000, my eyes adjusted and the picture improved enough. I still see tinges of green hair and overly red skin tones, but I think every set must have their problems at this price range and even above. I was seriously thinking of exchanging it, but finally got the colors to an acceptable degree and I just didn’t and don’t want the hassle of exchanging for another set which might have its own problems and require exchanging again. In the end, I decided to keep it since the Black Friday and Best Buy price was good. But my warning is, don’t trust the hype about any brand, it’s just compromise on every set. Even the OLEDs have burn in risks. This set has problems with greens and comes from the factory many times brighter than it should be which would be ok except that brightness is linked to its color. I up’ed the backlight all the way, changed the gamma type and turned the brightness all the way down. And fiddled endlessly with the colors just so I didn’t want to puke. Rtings calibrations floating around the Internet were horrible and were only for how they TESTED the unit, not for best pic quality. I wouldn’t follow their advice on calibration. The set is barely acceptable colors now - Nothing great. $1600 for a meh pic. But I guess every TV set still has compromises. I don’t know why they ever got rid of plasmas. Sure it has burn in, but my 8 year old 1080 plasma looks better in many ways than this set. I believe even the q6f if what’s I saw in the store was accurate will have these problems. Go look at the picture carefully at the store on this set. I guarantee 90% of time, you will either see a hazy whiteness with correct skin tones or you will see no haze but green tinge on all skin tones and hair: either or. It was so aggravating to turn the green down to acceptable levels without screwing up the rest of the picture to unacceptable levels. Also, I have a feeling the main chip isn’t too powerful. I see problems in color gradients often, you know, like cubicle pixelation lines going from one shade to another on the sky. Also, motion blur is really meh to me. Infrequently but suddenly, I see frames and image retention until chip inside catches up. Also for PS4 pro users, you’ll have to manually set the video input to yuv420 on the console if you don’t want the set to constantly turn black on you every few minutes. Everything else on the set was great, and as for me, I saw an option to turn off advertisements when setting up too, and haven’t seen any. Another thing Rtings messed up. They reported you couldn’t turn the ads off. On my set, I could. Read and be careful when you first set up the set if you don’t want advertisements. There’s a menu that makes you FEEL like you must accept all above but instead you check only the boxes you want and don’t check the other boxes. This will keep the set from producing advertisements. If you can live with the Samsung green tinge and overly bright picture, this set isn’t horrible. But for me, it’s just acceptable and I felt let down once getting it home and turning it on. It’s just a meh set.

Great 75'' TV for the money

My wife suggested that we needed to replace our old 55" Sony Bravia TV with a newer, larger one (not that there was anything wrong with the old one; it still performed great). This model, the 75" NU8000 by Samsung, is certainly BIG! It fits on our BDI stand, which was created for larger TVs anyway. This model has a central stand rather than supports on the ends of the screen; the support is well made and looks classier than the end supports, but it is a little wobbly sometimes. We haven't had any issues, fortunately, with the TV bouncing around, but we live in Florida without much chance of an earthquake anytime soon. The TV was delivered by Geek Squad to our living room, though I'd opted to set it up myself and save the expense. The Geek Squad guy recommended how to open the box properly (thanks!) and we (my wife and I) managed to get it all put together properly (though, in retrospect, maybe I should have opted for the set up by the Geek Squad, because the old Sony was a bear to get down). The Samsung is well made, much thinner than my old Sony Bravia. Setup was initially without much trouble, though I soon realized that the Comcast cable box I had wasn't equipped for 4k signals, so when I got the correct one I had to go through the setup process again (I did have some issues with trying to get the Samsung to recognize the Comcast box--and the Comcast remote wouldn't work initially, so I had to call Comcast to get them to get it to work). The screen quality is excellent. I'm not enough of an expert to nitpick about the difference between this model's screen and the more expensive QLEDs or Samsung's upper level models, but we've had no complaints about the quality of this TV at all. We do have shows we watch on lower-definition channels from time to time and the difference is remarkable. I have a JBL soundbar installed, though the short time I used the internal speakers didn't bother me at all. I hooked up a Samsung 4k HDTV DVD player to the TV. The DVD played connected flawlessly and works very well with everything I've run through it. I am also running an old XBox 360 through the Samsung, and it also runs without a hitch. Various streaming apps, like Netflix, have worked fine as well. The price I got for the NU8000 was excellent because of the holiday season, saving me about $300.00 over the current price. I would highly recommend the Samsung to anyone looking for a big screen TV with lots of capabilities.

    OK, But Definitely Not Steller

I bought this new 75” Samsung after coming from a 58” Panasonic plasma which I have owned for 11 years. While a nice upgrade in size, the typical picture quality and, especially the sound, was disappointing. I primarily use OTA and nothing more than a non-4K Roku for my TV viewing sources so I watch a lot of SD as well as HD OTA. With a very high quality OTA HD input, the picture quality is OK. However, lesser resolutions are not up scaled as well as I would like. The degree of control over sharpness, contrast and sound is pretty minimal and very lacking in comparison to the old Panasonic. I have played with every video and sound setting I could find and they were all pretty abysmal. The TV’s bass was so minimal it was non-existent. Boosting the two lowest frequency settings in the equalizer seemed to have no effect nor did the other sound choices. The sound was so bad it was totally unacceptable to me until I bought an inexpensive soundbar (Megacra) with a small sub woofer which made the overall sound decent. In regard to the soundbar, I could not get it to work with the Samsung over Bluetooth although the speakers worked fine on Bluetooth with my phone. I was able to connect the soundbar to the Samsung TV with an optical cable. I later managed to connect a Bluetooth headset with the TV. Other irritations are related to the non-intuitive menu structures which makes finding what you want very difficult at times. The saving grace is once you have located the option and noted its exact description it is much easier to find again using the Bixby Voice. Just don’t try to look for something like “signal strength” which Bixby can’t locate unless you use the exact menu option “setting signal information”. All in all, I don’t think I would recommend the Samsung UN75NU8000FXZA. With addition of the soundbar I am basically just OK with the TV although I would recommend anyone interested in it to really compare competing models. It’s really a shame that you can’t compare one brand to another in the store using the same input source and have the opportunity to try the TV’s settings before you buy. But I guess we aren’t allowed to make a really informed choice anymore.

I got the 75" and love it. I live in an apartment, so I was kind of unsure if the 75" would be too big. And when the TV first arrived, it was definitely huge! But now that I'm used to it, I'm so glad I splurged for the larger size. This isn't a QLED TV, but it's 4K and 120 hz, so I believe I got a great TV without having to spend several thousand dollars. The only hang up I had initially was trying to set up the TV (which is a pretty automatic process these days). No matter what I did, I couldn't get off the home screen. So I called Samsung, and apparently the remote is supposed to pair with the TV automatically right out of the box, so it's not something you'd even notice...unless, like me, your remote wasn't interfacing at all with the TV. So they walked me through the quick process of pairing the remote with the TV, and it was smooth sailing from there. Connecting the TV to the internet and wirelessly streaming also was a breeze. I've had prior Samsung Smart TVs from years past, and those were always harder to connect (and there were always problems). This is super seamless. I'm very pleased.

Samsung NU8000 75 is a great TV. BUT, you have to change the settings to get it looking good. BUT, first do not do not cheap out as you must get new HDMI for HDR. (Rocketfish). Out of the box the picture for standard is bad bad. Go to Movie but further tweaks are needed. So my opinion only as everyone likes different things. For football, Netflx and TV try this. Start with Movie setting then Expert Settings as you have additional tweaks. Change settings as follows, Backlight move to 40 Brightness should be 0 Contrast use 50 Sharpness use 8 Color is 25 Tint stay with 0 Digital Clean use Auto Auto Motion you want to turn this off Local Dimming go with High Contrast Enhancer go with Low YOU MUST ENABLE HDR+MODE (tick the box) Film Mode go with Off Color Tone you want "warm 1" Color Space you want "native" Thats it so make sure you have good HDMI cables (dont be cheap) and try these settings for a few days. Enjoy!!!!

I have been reading every imaginable review on tvs 65" up to 85" from Sony to Visio to Samsung. I recently read an article comparing this television to the Q6. Other than color and price these 2 tvs are very similar in performance. The q6 is a little bit better in producing colors and is more expensive. The reviews on these two tvs are 4.8 out of 5 with the biggest complaint being having to make adjustments to factory presets. No big deal. My biggest complaint about the Samsung 8000 series is the difference in price between the 65" and 75". $800!!!! C'mon Samsung!!!! I contacted Samsung directly. I am on disability and my eyes are deteriorating. I want to get the 75. I think it might help me see the picture better. I was shifted around by Samsung to 4 different associates. I wanted to see if I could purchase a refurbished tv at a fair price. $ is tight. Samsung has always been my brand. They suggested several different models and understood my situation. Ultimately, they told me that they couldn't help. They followed up by email but still no accommodation. With all the tvs that are messed up you would think there would be some tvs that have been repaired that they could point me towards. It was a squeaky wheel wanting some grease type of situation but I didn't appreciate Samsung employees leading me on for nearly an hour then slamming the door! What gives Samsung!!!! Drop your price on the 75" nu8000. It's too expensive in comparison!!!!!

I wanted to join the UHD/4K universe and to add a few extra inches without spending thousands of dollars. I was dead set on getting a 75" Sony after doing my homework on specs and then I went to Best Buy and saw it side by side with an OLED and my excitement went down a few pegs. While the Sony had all the specs I was looking for, it also appeared about two shades duller than an OLED. But then, one TV away, was a Samsung that was actually holding its own to the OLED awesomeness. That was my TV. The brightness and definition have not let me down since. Amazing picture that is almost surreal at times. This one also comes with lots of great features, including HD upscaling and darkness/contrast enhancement. I was leary of the built-in Bixby streaming software. I was half expecting to have to buy a Roku to get all of the apps and performance I was looking for, but no need! Bixby is great! My only complaint or con would be the occasional blurring. I would recommend that Samsung increase the processing power and tack on a couple extra hundred to the asking price to eliminate the minimal blurring that can still be found. It's not that bad in fairness, but when you are that close to perfection, you might as well just go for it.

During black friday week I Bought the 65" Q6 for 1,300 then the next day the 75" NU8000 went on sale for 1,600 so I went back and swapped it out for 300 more. Picture quality and color seemed to be a little better on the smaller Q6 but not too major, but the size difference was night and day better. I have my xbox one x hooked up to it and games play great. The issue I'm having, which I had read about in some of the reviews while doing my research, is a snap/crackle/pop noise that comes out of the TV every 30 seconds or so and is fairly loud. It continues for a while even after the TV is turned off. It didn't bother me much at first but now it's starting to get aggravating. I'm not interested in having some technician dig into my brand new tv so I'll wait to see if it gets better/worse before my Jan 12 return deadline. I also got the 5 year BB warranty for 350 so that gives me peace of mind anyways. Otherwise a great TV with no other issues so I'll give it 4 stars for now..

This was a replacement for my Sharp 72" TV from 2013 that was struck by lightning. It's not the latest or greatest, but it also doesn't cost as much either. This is a great TV. Set up was easy and I could do it right through the Samsung app on my cell phone. Which also lets you control the TV remotely. Sound is not bad for a TV, I've heard much worse. Soundbar is always better though. Picture is clear and bright. There are several different modes and it even automatically adjusts to Game Mode when connecting and XBox or Playstation. The remote is awesome. It's replacedy my much loved $250 Logitech Harmony. It's small and easy to use. A couple functions, such as navigating ATT U-Verse took a couple days to get used to, but nothing too out of the ordinary. Samsung Hub is perfect. I love being able to see my next shows on Netflix and Hulu right from the Hub. There are also a ton of other apps such as CBS and YouTube TV. In fact this TV is so good and easy to use that I bought the 49" for my Mom's bedroom. I really have no complaints. If you're ok not having the latest and greatest, I highly recommend taking a look at this one, especially now that prices have dropped so low.

This TV is loaded with features, great color depth and clarity, beautiful picture, very good Dynamic Crystal Color including a full world of colors where millions of additional shades make all the difference.. It comes with Bixby voice commands which on the down side often doesn't understand commands especially the pause feature, which is annoying. One other problem is that it doesn't come with any analog video connections, which will present a problem if you have an older DVD player, VCR, or video game system. Also our sound system which isn't that old was not able to plug in as this TV doesn't have the correct plugin for that either. The base does seem very stable and fits on most TV stands, other brands similar size would not fit on a lot of TV stands. The remote quickly controls everything but could be bigger for easier handling.

We had a 50” and were a bit worried if 75” might be too big, as I normally sit about eight feet from the set. Not a problem at all. Picture for my tastes was a bit dark, but the Settings let me change to what I prefer. Movies, football...great viewing. You will definitely need another person to help unbox and either install stand and lift/place, or to wall mount. It is not so much the weight, it is a big awkward size for one person. I would liked if there were more USB ports and an Analog Audio Out port. With just the digital optical port, it was more cumbersome to use two wireless headphones that only worked with the older audio ports. However, the solution was simple. Highly recommended.

Setup: everything is easily laid out and simple to plug in. The only thing that you need help is of course lifting this monster. Visual: if you are watching normal tv, the quality is poor. Now, put in a HD movie and on Netflix and you will be amazed of how clear the picture is. Fine detail of pixels and shades can be fine very well. Color is perfect out of the box, along with brightness. There are many other options to choose for your display enjoyment. Sound: the sound is good, and loud. I have use it for a month, and end up hooking the sound to my receiver. I needed more in depth quality, such as sound travel and bass availabilty/clarity. The Stand: the way the stand is designed, kind of use up your entertainment space but, I understand why, the sturdiness of the tv on my table felt perfect.

tv has huge white mark on bottom right. I can see it really bad when darker colors are shown. I’m really upset. Every tv I have is a Samsung. I have 5 TVs not under 50 inches in my home. This has been the worst experience. I bought it for my husband and rented a uhaul to get it home. Called right away when he was able to watch tv he saw it. They couldn’t send geek squad to swap it I’d need to re-rent a uhaul or contact Samsung. I has to go on a business trip so I figured when I got home I’d contact Samsung. 20 min on support I’ve had the guy just stop answering and leave chat open when I spoke about white marks on new TV. I screen shot it to have proof. I waited an hour and haft no response. This is not how anyone should be treated. Even if they only spent 100 on a tv or thousands like I have no one deserves that. I now have a broken tv I paid thousands for. I will not buy another thing Samsung. Not a phone, TV or even a oven! :(

The good: The picture is really great. Setup was painless, although I ended up downloading an application for my smartphone for it, but I don't think it is required. The bezel surrounding the screen is pretty minimal, and like most modern TVs, it is pretty thin. The bad: The remote is not great as it doesn't pair with my soundbar. I end up using my directv remote to change the volume and Samsung's remote to navigate the menus of the tv and switch through applications (Netflix, hulu, amazon prime, etc.). One saving grace is that it is easy to pair new remotes to the tv, so if you have a nice universal remote you can just use that. Conclusion: I have zero regrets purchasing this tv. The negatives listed above are only minor nuisances.

Purchased my NU8000 on holiday deals because it was just too good to pass up with the living room TV needing an upgrade. We love to watch movies, now with 4k and streaming 4k from Netflix this TV has been incredible. If your TV is over 5 years old the dark elements of this TV will shock you the first time you watch a show like Game of Thrones, many scenes you will make out parts you never noticed. We were going to upgrade to an OLED before we looked at this TV and having them side by side the over $1600 difference did not justify the purchase when for another $100 we could have purchased two NU8000's at the holiday price. Low light and high light performance is great, even during the middle of the day with light streaming the picture remains vibrant. Strongly recommend!

This was one of the biggest purchases I have ever made. I had a toshiba I bought from Best Buy 8 years ago. There was nothing wrong with it - still in perfect working order. My husband had been chomping at the bit for an upgrade for some time. I didn’t understand what the big deal was. A tv is a tv? I am happy to say I was wrong. This TV is on another level. The remote is super intuitive, easy set up. I went back and forth on buying a 6 or 7 series but am SO happy I splurged for the 8. The picture is so clear and absolute. The gaming mode really makes you feel like you are right there in the game. If you are on the fence with an older tv and needed an extra push to make the jump - THIS IS YOUR PUSH. I seriously can’t even believe what we were watching tv on before. 5 stars ⭐️ 100% satisfied. Thank you Samsung for this awesome tv and thank you Best Buy for making the transition so easy!!!

We purchased the Samsung NU8000 series after a lot of research and price comparisons. We have had it several weeks and have enjoyed the TV so far. It was easy to setup and the picture is very good. We have 3 large windows that are not covered and the picture does not washout with the bright sunlight. The sound has been good, no need for a sound bar, which I have on our other Samsung. The colors are very vibrant and the pictures with scenery are very pretty. With the short period we have had this TV we are very pleased with it and would recommend it, especially if you have large windows and lots of light.

I am a longtime purchaser of Samsung tvs. The competition these days is getting tighter and it is harder to differentiate the difference between product offerings from other competitors. However, I believe the NU8000 hits the right sweet spot in terms of size, picture quality, features and of course, price. I was deciding between the Q6FN and the NU8000, but my budget limited me to a 65inch of the Q6FN or a 75inch for the latter. I went with the latter since I felt the size was more of what I wanted for the large room I installed it in. I will say that this tv is somewhat darker than others, especially the Q6FN, but on its own not side by side with the other, you can hardly tell. The reviews were stellar on RTINGS.com which I typically use so I highly recommend.

This TV is beautiful and watching stuff like Blue Planet 2 and any other hi res 4k shows/movies is just another experience. I went with the 75" version which is just gigantic and makes me feel like I'm in a theater in my living room. The only issue I had was some dead pixels up in the top left corner of the screen. I called Geek Squad and they said they can fix it onsite but I haven't been able to coordinate a date with the holidays coming up. Also, it sucks to have to put the stand on as you have to put the TV face down to bolt it on. Talk about STRESS CITY!!!! I will be getting a wall mount soon because I want it to be raised higher so I'll be approaching STRESS CITY again in the near future. Otherwise... beautiful TV. I've never had a 4K before but I've had some decent TV's and this is night and day...

I had a 50 inch plasma for the last 5 years and decided to upgrade. With that, I am extremely happy with my purchase. The 8000 series is a nice step up from the 7000 series and the 75 inch fits well for my living room. I considered a 65 inch but have to say I am glad I went with the 75 inch. The colors look great whether watching TV programs or sports with no complaints. The TV speakers have a good sound but I added a sound bar out of personal preference. I like the TV enough I am planning on putting one in my family room too. Note I shop Best Buy because of their warranties and would recommend getting the warranty for peace of mind. It was a little higher then I would have liked but to not have to worry about any issues is a big plus.

I would recommend this to a friend
