Using this as a second drive in my laptop to store photos and videos during editing. Fast access and plenty of storage!

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Samsung is simply the best when it comes to SSD drives. The 980 PRO is no exception. I am very pleased. Easy to install and lightning fast. It has absolutely SPEED and quality that one comes to expect from Samsung. I spend most of my day in Adobe Programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator and this allows me to move from app to app with ease! I do think this gets hotter than I'd like - even with the heat spreader label to deliver effective thermal control. I feel better that they are looking at addressing that, but it misses the mark. Otherwise don't look at anything else - just trust this product to greatly increase your expectations.

DRAM no longer needed

I went for something cheap, that didn't have a ram cache, and had poor write endurance. It was a step up from a mechanical hard drive, but not much, as the write speeds were horrible. Fast forward to today and I'm again going with an SSD without a dram cache, but that is no longer an issue. Samsung pulls off magic with their dynamically adjustable cache which converts slow triple layer cells to fast single layer cells in order give you a write speed comparable to other SSDs with a DRAM cache. The drive then moves your files from the SLC buffer to the TLC long term storage as time permits. While I'm not sure how this will affect the endurance of the drive over the long run, in the short term, this drive runs great, without breaking the wallet. I transferred gigs of videos from one NVME drive to another without any slow downs. I suspect that maybe if you were trying to transfer 500+GB of data at once, you may run into issues, but your source would have to be just as fast as this drive and even then, you'll probably run into other system bottle necks first.

I have the Acer Nitro 5 and it has 2 available M.2. slots. I was able to transfer my OS and everything over to this new SSD via Samsung Magician Software. The software makes it super easy to transfer everything and you can do it in less than an hour. Samsung Magician also lets you run benchmark tests and gives you the drive's health. I recommend you make sure to be careful opening up your laptop and that you don't have any static charge on your hands. You don't want to fry anything out on your mother board. Once you are in, this easily installs in the M.2 slot. My computer boots up really fast now and I can access games instantly. I can honestly say this drive is a game changer.

Not a techie, but can notice the difference
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this was installed on the family computer and while the previous drive was a typical "sata ssd" i never noticed how slow it was. after learning about different storage types, i now realize why nvme is so much faster. and it is noticeable! the load times for the initial startup is almost instant now. i don't even see the windows loading screen. pictures are clicked and opened almost immediately. i didn't know that a storage device could make such a difference, but my family has informed me that my pc is more than capable and switching to this drive was the breath of life it needed to be brought back into the 21st century. overall super happy with the drive.
