Mine came with the latest firmware and was on sale as well. At the sale price this is an easy choice over the 980 Pro. It performs well and I haven’t had any thermal issues either (I’m just using a super thin heatsink that came with my laptop). You won’t really notice a difference from a 980 Pro unless you work with small files. Windows feels very snappy with this drive and a bit faster at everyday tasks compared to my 980 Pro and SK Hynix P41 SSDs. Be sure yours has the latest firmware and you’ll be good.

I purchasdd this as second drive for data storage. I am pleased with the lighting fast transfer speed. Definitely recommend this.

Great NVMe SSD. Picked this Samsung 2 TB 990 Pro up the last minute for a new build I just completed. OS/boot drive and most played Steam games on it. Using 2 x TB Samsung 980 Pro’s as well. Haven’t ran CrystalMark or any SSD benchmarks, but I’ve had zero issues with Samsung SSD and NVMe’s in the past and this one works great out of the box
