Doesn't function with many movies.

The usual "pre-start" sequence plays, but then the controls to actually play the movie have no effect. Further, and a frustratingly common problem in today's consumer electronics, the buttons on the device itself are invisible and unlabeled. There is not a full control set on the device, which renders it unusable when the remote fails. All devices should have full controls, and all controls should be labeled and visible in the typical usage environment (a dark room for a device such as this.) It has an attractive gloss metallic finish, but the failure to operate many movies means I may return it. I'd give it three stars if it worked all movies, due to the lack of controls and poor ergonomic function of those it does have. Of the devices on display at Best Buy, only two had the optical output I needed, and this seemed the better of the pair, pre-purchase.

Highly Recommended but...........

I do have to admit that the first one I purchased did not work at all. Best buy sent me a prepaid label to return it and shipped me out a replacement immediately without me having to wait for them to receive the defective unit back, which I was very happy with. My 5 star rating is for the one I currently have and not for the defective one. One does have to wonder if I was just unlucky that the first one did not work or if there is a pattern here? In any case Best buy did right by me so even when a defective one lands at your door step, there is no fear of getting ripped off.
