Background noise is terrible

My husband wears them at work and says they are great for listening to music or podcasts. But they are terrible for phone calls. I can hear him chewing very loudly if he’s eating anything at all. I can hear the conversations of people that walk by him. The background noise is more prominent than his voice is.
