Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the Galaxy S 5 Active 4G Cell Phone's camera quality, ease of use, battery life, and screen size. Many appreciate its water resistance and the range of features it offers. However, some users express dissatisfaction with the pre-installed apps and the charging port cover. The phone's positive aspects appear to outweigh the negative for most customers.

    Having Problems

I love the face that it is 'active' and is very durable, that's why I got the phone. However, it doesn't work that well. My calls go in and out every minute or so, so when it does I can hardly hear the person talking. Some of my texts don't send, and I don't receive them all either. My camera does not focus on any close objects. Far away it does great. My problems allow me to still use my phone, It's just very annoying when I'm missing very important texts and can't hear when I have to call someone. This is the second active phone I have had problems with. Sorry to say, but this might turn me into team IPhone.

    what a joke

i had the s3 and loved it. i just bought this phone less than 2 weeks ago. i am very rough on phones and thought this would would work for me. i had it sitting on my mowing trailer and it got bumped off while i was working on the mower and it fell less than a foot onto concrete and landed on the screen. the screen broke-even with the screen protector film on it. what a joke! of course insurance will fix it($200 deductible) might as well get rid of insurance and just buy a new phone. for this phone being so rugged and tough i am thoroughly dissapointed. should have just bought the s5 and got a good case.

    loving the switch

After using the iPhone for a few years I didn't think the switch would be this easy. I love everything about this phone. They say the features like the remote control and heart monitor would be useless but I find that false. Every little perk built into this phone is great and works as advertised.

I love this phone. I was skeptical about the color I really wanted the white one but I waited almost 2 hours because I got the phone on easy pay and I didn't have a credit card so I had to use a best buy gift card . But now the color has grown on me especially when I'm out side the back glams through. The sun. But my main concern is that the phone is like the upcoming Note 4 where you can stick a credit card between. The glass but other than that. love it

    a lot of hype

I got caught up in the hype an purchased this phone through Verizon. I literally had it for a day before ordering its replacement. First I was disappointed by the "feel" of the device, it was very cheaply made, the materials made it feel like it would shatter if I dropped it. Then I started the phone and it wouldn't activate at first I thought that was a carrier issue but found out that its common with this phone. Once I got it working (the next day) phone quality was spotty in a location where my previous phone had no problems. Positives: screen is bright and crystal clear, processor is very fast, the phone was fairly responsive. However, because of this the battery life was shorter than it should have been (in My Opinion). I get why iPhone haters love this device. Except for the phone size though I do not think it is better than an iPhone 5S. I would not recommend this phone to a friend or family member. And No I did not replace it with an iPhone, I picked up the Galaxy Note 3. Far superior phone for not much more money.

paired up to the other android devices on the market right now this phone is by far the most stable with NO bugs or glitches unlike most android phones. just upgraded the whole family and am more then happy with the results this far. side note the NXT plan is by far the cheapest and easiest way to purchase your phone!

One of the slowest piece of tech I've ever owned

I've had this phone much longer than I can stand. It was okay for the first month then it all went down hill from there. This phone's retail price, at the time, was 650 dollars. Keep that number in mind as I list the reasons why that is outrageous. First and foremost, this phone is incredibly slow. And if you don't perform daily maintenance, multiple times a day, it will only get slower. It's not gradual either. I have to download far too many third party apps to keep it from slowing to a crawl. It's slower than my Kyocera Rise I had 5+ years ago. That's pretty sad. There is an icon to open the camera from the lock screen but the phone is so slow to open it, it's basically pointless. Same with how it opens anything. The camera is nothing to boast about. It's not bad but it wasn't incredible either. At least not noticeably. It was one of the best at the time but the Lumia, iPhones and G3 (which is what I owned before this garbage) all had on par if not better quality cameras. Features are sub par and pretty standard. Not really a negative but keeping that price tag in mind, it should have had me going "oh that's cool." every time I found a new feature. I'd say the only 2 features I thought were really cool is when you get a text in the notification bar you can hit reply or call right on the notification and that feature where you can hover your finger over and get a preview of a lengthy text without having to open the text. The same works for pictures and various other things. That was cool. But generally it had me grunting in frustration because of the design of the phone itself. The buttons. I know a lot of phones are doing this now a days and this point is very subjective, but the placement of the power and volume buttons is annoying. The buttons are so sensitive and you'll find yourself constantly hitting volume instead of lock and vice versa. They tried to make it convenient and ended up making it inconvenient. Build quality is weak. The phone feels very flimsy and cheap. The silly gimmick hardware doesn't even work. The fingerprint thing doesn't work half the time. The front facing camera feature that is supposed to keep the screen unlocked while you're looking at it NEVER works. The heart beat pulse thing on the back is inaccurate as ever. That was a pointless gimmick anyway but another subjective opinion. The phone gets very hot, very fast. More daily maintenance. Battery life is below average because the phone is always working so hard. RAM is constantly running between 65 and 75 percent just at idle. This phone just doesn't deliver any of its promises. I got this phone just before the S6 came out. I have had these issues about the second month I had it. So have numerous others. For that price tag there should be no reason this phone is this cheap. People said "oh the S5 is great! So much better than the S4!" And they'll say the same about the S6. And then the S7 and then the S8 and so on and still the Galaxy series will always be expensive and rarely deliver on any of the promises they make. Samsung needs to get their act together and at LEAST put more RAM in these phones. The positives? The interface looks sleek and simple even if it lacks features here and there. Milk Music is pretty cool even if you can get a similar app. It was nice to have it already installed. The Samsung reps install it for you right in the store. The water resistant feature was cool. I dared not test it though. Got a Lifeproof case which obviously works but muffles your mic when you're on a phone call. But that's the case's fault. Call quality is decent. (Without the Lifeproof case) The screen is clear and the color is really vivid. The phone looks sleek and simple. I personally don't like the bevel edge trim but again, that's my opinion. Conclusion: Phone does not deliver any of what it says it will. You MIGHT like it if this is the first ever smart phone you've gotten OR if you've had an older Galaxy S series. Beyond that, no. Don't waste your money.

I had been waiting for the right time to upgrade. Glad I signed up to get a $50 gift card when you reserve and purchase a phone from them. I also had $60 in gift cards and got $90 for my S3. I only ended up spending $15 out of pocket for my S5. You can't beat that.

    Don't do it!

I attempted to branch out of the iPhone world, and I regret it 150%. Bought the phone, and 7 days later the camera lens completely shattered. NEVER dropped the phone, and I also had a case on it. I researched it and apparently A LOT of people are having this problem with the newer Samsung phones. Honestly I was not blown away by the camera quality even before the lens shattered. Not to mention, half of the screen would black out for no reason at all. It would open Apps randomly without me even touching the phone. It would vibrate/ring even though I had it on silent. My only options were to pay a deductible on my AT&T insurance, or ship it off to Samsung so they could either repair my phone or send me a refurbished phone. I'm sorry, but when I pay this much $$$ for a brand new device, it better work and work well. And I certainly should not be shipping it off to be repaired within the 1st 7 days of owning it. If you are thinking about getting this phone, do yourself a favor and don't.

Buyer Beware. Samsung doesn't honor IP67 rating

    Posted .

I would highly advise against purchasing this phone. I had the phone less than 3 hours when my son got some water on it. it wasn't submerged at 3 feet for 30 minutes or anything near their claims on the Samsung website, just a splash of water. Less than an hour later it started acting funny, the screen was flickering and everything acted like it was on a 5 second delay. I took it back to AT&T and they took a look under the back cover (which the AT&T employee put on) and there was water damage. AT&T at that point refused to take the phone back, stating that it was a damaged phone. They told me that I should speak with Samsung, as it was their issue. I called Samsung and they said that if there was any water damage that the warranty was void. I tried pointing out to both AT&T and Samsung that the sole reason I purchased this phone was the IP67 rating. Regardless, they refused to honor their water resistant to 3 meters for a half hour claim. I now have a brick sitting on my desk that worked for less than half a day. If you're even thinking of getting this phone for its water resistance, know that the water resistance failed for me when exposed to a single incident, and that neither Samsung nor AT&T would replace the phone.
