Hard to reactivate when screen sleeps

Seems overall to be a better phone however it is very hard to reactivate when the screen goes to sleep and only shows the date. Really touching the screen does not make it work consistently. Worst case I have to hit the off and on button to get a reactivate. For some apps I have to turn the phone off and clear the app. I never had these difficulties with the S9. It is probably a hands-on problem but I don't know how to fix but until tomorrow I will not be able to get hands on assistance and consultation due to the COVID 19 restrictions
