For context I am switching to this phone from iPhone X. I used Android previously, tried joining apple, and generally was happy but when this phone came out I really wanted to buy it. So I did. I have had it for a week now and I'm in love with the phone and glad I made the switch. The phone itself- it's an absolutely beautiful phone. Doesn't matter what color it's just pretty. It is so lightweight. It feels great in my hand. It's easy to hold. I love the edge to edge screen. It looks much better than the iPhone X did in my opinion due to no notch. Display- so bright and vibrant. Very crisp, clear, easy to see. I think it looks better than the X display did. Camera- seems comparable to iPhone X camera. I'm not a photographer or camera savvy person but this camera is awesome. The few I have taken turned out great. They look like they could come from a fancy Nikon. iPhone X produced similar results but this one seems to do even better in low light settings. Biometrics- I find this to be better than the X for a couple reasons. I enjoyed the facial recognition on the X 50% of the time. The other 50% it infuriated me. If you're wearing sunglasses it does not pick your face up. Which is fine until youre in Hawaii for 2 weeks and wearing sunglasses most of the time and can't open your phone without your passcode which takes about 5 seconds to pull up. I was beyond frustrated. This phone has facial recognition AND a thumbprint reader. If it doesn't pick up your face you quickly can scan your thumb. I find it opens up much quicker than the X did anyways. I read previous reviews of the thumbprint reader only working part of the time, however, I have had zero issue with it reading my thumb. It scans mine quickly and correctly everytime. Functionality- Android 9.0 is very nice and sleek looking. I had not used Android since like 6.0 or maybe 7.0 and I wasn't a huge fan. I love this one, it's very up to date I feel like. It is very smooth and the phone is extremely fast. Power share feature- I do not own galaxy buds or watch so this feature isnt something I'll use regularly. But out of curiosity, I wanted to see how effectively it would charge another Galaxy phone (s8). I plugged mine in, placed the s8 on mine, and left it over night for about 8 hours. Mine started with about 72% and ended with 100%. The s8 started with 50% and ended with 65%. So it is NOT effective in charging another phone, clearly. Which isn't a big deal, I was just testing it out. However, it obviously does work and is actually a pretty cool feature. If you own the buds or watch it might be something you actually use. Battery life- I read multiple articles about how the battery is pretty good in this phone but compared to the X it dies much quicker. Apple has much simpler phones, with more efficient processors so it naturally uses less battery. Galaxy phone's are more powerful and basically mini computers so I feel it is natural that they would use more battery than Apple. Even with moderate use, I can still make it through the day though so it's no big deal. It charges up extremely fast (with a "fast" charger) as well, so it's not something that has bothered me. Overall I'm in love with this phone and glad I made the switch to the galaxy. I love the look and how it feels in my hands. If you're on the fence, I'd definitely go for it. Whether you're switching from Apple or not. You won't be disappointed.
