Customers are saying

Customers regard the Galaxy S7 as a phone with a good camera, long battery life, and user-friendly features. They appreciate that it is unlocked, reasonably priced, waterproof, and has a good size. However, some customers have concerns about its tendency to overheat, its fragility, and the lack of updates with Android.

I've had this phone for 6 months and LOVE IT! Will probably sell it tho' to have the S8 if there's another great deal on them at Best Buy but only because I like the latest technology, not because I'm not happy with this phone.

    No software updates

As of today 4/12 Samsung still has not released the latest Android upgrade for unlocked S7 devices. Every other branded phone, and unlocked non US s7's has Nougat. The software was released in August 2016. Even older than s7 models are updated. There is no response from Samsung when the update would be available for unlocked S7 US devices. Samsung sells a device for full price without supporting it.

The only problem with the phone is that the glass is curved and when you try to install a glass type screen protector it does not stick very well due to the curved glass of the phone.

So i bought this S7 phone, read the reviews and made the decision to get the unlocked phone. Read other forms online where you can buy a sim card from your carrier place or bestbuy. Got my phone mailed with the sim card in hand and installed it only to find out after 4 hours that i cannot program/activate it with VM carrier service. Techs on the phone told me I cannot activate it due to it being unlocked and not programmed to accept VM carrier. On dec. 19-20th checked online for Virgin mobile carrier since bestbuy had a great deal on this phone than anywhere else plus monthly payments. Best buy did not have VM carrier phone for the S7 but at the time only sold for Verizon, sprint, Tmobile and AT&T. At the day I am righting this review looking back at the S7 phones only to see with my own eyes bestbuy uploaded the Virgin Mobile carrier for the S7. If I had this phone programmed or bestbuy releasing Virgin mobile carrier phones before all this happen then I give this phone 5 stars no doubt but since I spend all this time wasted and not getting a full refund now I give it 2 stars...

    Cracks Easily

Please consider that the back of this phone is glass and the back cannot be easily removed and replaced. My brand new, beautiful phone cracked within days of opening and it has not been dropped. Unfortunately this happened outside of the Best Buy return policy and is not covered under the manufacturer warranty. I've had my Samsung S3 for years and have dropped it 100 times and it does not have a scratch on it. The S7 is a beautiful phone but I am sick that my husband spent $700 dollars on it and it broke so easily.

Signal Quality issues after 2.5 weeks

    Posted .

About 20 days after buying my phone, the signal quality/radio/antenna seemed to become defective. Locations that previously had adequate service were suddenly low-to-no-signal. I would often have to go outside to get an adequate signal to place a call. This seems to have started after I used the Max Power Saver mode, but I wasn't able to recover the expected performance even after multiple factory resets and setting adjustments. Best Buy policy is NO CELL PHONE RETURNS AFTER 14 DAYS. Samsung has my phone for repair (free of charge). Haven't gotten it back yet to see if the problem is resolved. Samsung's off-shore call center is as terribly weak as most of them are, but the return process seemed to work well. Nonetheless I would have preferred to return this junker and get an iPhone, if Best Buy's return policy were better. Now I fear I'll be stuck with a lemon.

    Nice when it works

Phone is 6 months old, complained of moisture detection without ever being significantly exposed to water. After a couple of days, it will only charge very slowly after pushing in then partially pulling out cable. IMEI not registered with Samsung for warranty service (although purchased from Best Buy). Samsung customer service is horrible: no follow though on call back, supposed to take 9 days total to get phone back if they ever get around to taking it for repair. I have purchased 6 Galaxys (3-7) and this is the last. Only operational complaint is that the SIM/SD tray is awful, very hard to insert without the SIM popping out.

    Poor performance

An unlocked phone sounds great in theory but has poor performance when being used. I have had nothing but trouble with the quality of the phone calls. It doesn't matter if I am initiating or receiving the phone calls. Experiencing multiple dropped calls, static, etc. There are also times when I can hear them but they cant hear me. I have contacted ATT tech support several times and they have performed a series of trouble shooting each time. Towers have been checked, settings changed from "H" to "LTC", checked compatibility GSM, IMEI info, etc. Its still crappy!!

Does not support 4G LTE on AT&T

After many hours on the phone with AT&T this unlocked phone is not supported by AT&T 4G LTE. AT&T also does not grantee 4G LTE coverage on unlocked phones. I am very upset and after doing some quick web surfing you will see may have the same problem. The phone will work but only connect as "H" 3G speeds.

Great phone but don't buy this one

The S7 works really well. But the unlocked phone has not been updated yet! Android had been on Nougat for two months, Samsung pushed updates to all other versions through the carriers. But the unlocked phones have been forgotten and neglected. Not even an ETA. Apps are written for the new OS. Get your phone through a carrier. Really disappointing.

    DON'T BUY THIS PHONE!

I paid top dollar for this model because it's unlocked thinking I'd receive OS updates sooner. The opposite has happened. Every S7 Edge on the planet has received Nougat exept the 935U. Save your money and get a carrier S7 Edge.

Really, really bad PC support software

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Okay, it's a great phone. But, you'll be in for a very nasty surprise when you use the usb cable connection to try and manage files on the phone. Samsung's custom usb drivers simply don't work on Windows 10. Furthermore, their custom supporting PC software (SideSync and SmartSwitch) crash all the time or simply do not work. It's really pathertic. Basic functionality simply gone. It's all such a stark contrast from their super-sleek android phone. Go ahead and get the phone, but be prepared for a nightmare if you need proper file-management access.

    no Verizon Wi-Fi calling

Does not support Verizon wi-fi calling since it is unlocked. And while I am on Verizon, worth a note that this does not have band 17 needed for AT&T.
