Why are they called smart phones?

This was an upgrade from my S5, which was a flip phone in comparison. Loads of new features, including a flashlight which all my iPhone friends liked to show off. A million others I haven't even begun to discover. One of my favorite things is that they got rid of the little bit that covered the charger to make it waterproof. I was always waiting for that to break off...
