Great earbuds
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was pleasantly surprised with wireless earbuds. Not only they fitted well onto my ears but they also come with 2 other size fittings. I was little bit skeptical at the beginning if they will stay inside but they actually did. At the beginning they might feel a little bit uncomfortable – it feels like they create vacuum inside your ears, but I got used to it after a while. Ambient sound (they have built in microphone that routes outside sounds to earbuds) feature needs some improvement, especially at higher volumes – you can hear some static and it feels unrealistic since there is a delay in sound transfer. Although I think it’s a great solution for music festivals to protect your ears. I was not expecting it to have a built in sports tracker – yes it does monitor heart rate and an activity tracker that syncs data with Samsung Health app. Overall great Bluetooth earbuds, battery lasts a little bit over an hour when streaming music from phone, but included case has a build in battery as well, which charges them as well. Earbuds have their own memory, so you can store over 3GBs of music on them.

My favorite headphones!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These ear buds are awesome! I mostly use them for music and phone but my wife uses them for her workout and she loves them. They're comfortable to wear and battery life is good, we get about 1 1/2 to 2hrs of use. Being able to load music on to the ear buds is one of the best features about them cause it allows me to use them without having them connected to my phone. The other great feature I love is the ambient sound feature, with ambient sound on, it allows me to use them at work and the reason i say I love this feature is because I can also use them as ear plugs by simply turning off the ambient sound and to an aircraft mechanic this is awesome cause it eliminates the annoying removal and installation of regular earplugs every 2 minutes. These ear buds are just awesome! They are so easy to use. The charging case is compact and comfortable to put in pocket and take anywhere with you, very convenient. I would definitely recommend these to friends and family. Samsung did a great job with these ear buds.

Power is a problem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use these while doing my daily 30 minutes on the treadmill or weekly 30 minutes of acupuncture treatment. But I have no idea how long the battery lasts. Because once you put them in your ear to power them on, they do not power off after I remove them, and the battery eventually runs out before the next use. HORRIBLE DESIGN. Overall sound quality is good, but sometimes the volume is too low

Wait for 2nd or 3rd generation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I give props to Samsung for coming out with true wireless earbuds that actually fit. Most other companies simply rely on rubber eartips to hold their wireless earbuds in place and that simply isn't enough. The included wintips help keep the earbuds in while allowing for little movement. That's about the only positive here though. Much like Samsung's other products, they tried to squeeze too much into these earbuds. These have 4GB of internal storage, a heart rate monitor, and accelerometers to keep track of your steps and/or running without you having to carry around your phone. That's an awful lot to pack into these earbuds and that comes at a huge expense: drastically reduced battery life. It's fine that Samsung wanted to release sports-related, wireless earbuds but they also should have come out with consumer wireless earbuds, ones with all of those features removed while having bigger batteries. Samsung wants you to use these earbuds without a phone. Their battery life, when playing music back off of the 4GB of storage, is rated at 3.6 hours but I was constantly getting 3 hours. The battery life when streaming content from a phone (like a true pair of Bluetooth earbuds) was even worse. Samsung rates it as being ~1.5 hours but I was getting 15-20 minutes shy of that rating. In this day and age, no wireless earbuds or headphones should last 90 minutes or less on a single charge. I realize that these are wireless earbuds but still. Look at what other companies are doing. Motorola (Lenovo) was able to get ~4 hours out of their earbuds and Apple is getting 5 hours. Both of those are huge increases over Samsung's earbuds. Not only that but the fitness functions only work with Samsung's app which is exclusive to their smartphones. iPhone and other Android smartphone users can't sync music to the earbuds using their phones. They have to go the old fashioned way by plugging an earbud into a PC via microUSB and syncing music that way. The earbuds cannot download content from Google Music All Access or any other streaming service, they have to be mp3 files that you physically own/made. It's a real shame. Samsung has a solid design with these but there are far too many features in them at the expense of battery life. They could have easily taken out the 4GB of storage and added a larger battery, same with all of the health-related content. I couldn't even get these earbuds to last a full exercise session when streaming music (since I don't have a Samsung phone). Their sound quality is alright (nothing special but nothing bad either, a little bass heavy with the mids lacking some detail), their design is excellent, and the traveling case is small yet extremely functional. They nailed everything about these earbuds except the atrocious battery life and by wanting people to sync music to these instead of directly streaming from their phones/smart watches. I returned these earbuds after trying them out for two weeks and have since returned to using my Bose SoundSport Wireless earbuds. Sure, they aren't "truly" wireless but they have almost 6 times the battery life and sound better than the IconX earbuds. I will gladly use wireless earbuds with a wire running between them if it means I don't have to recharge them every hour.

Not Ready for Prime Time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am pretty tech savvy and have trouble operating these ear buds. Operation has been very frustrating. The buds can't keep connected to the phone. If I want to listen to music stored on them they can't decide to keep playing or plays only from one ear bud. I have to turn off the Bluetooth in my phone to play the stored songs. A setting for the earbuds Bluetooth on/off would really be nice. I was able to play internal songs while on a bike ride but the battery didn't last long. There is no indication of the battery level. When on a bike ride you want to be able to hear what is happening around so I turned on the ambient sound. It worked great except it was windy and the wind noise was really bad. As a work around I turned the ambient sound off and took one earbud out. I tried recording the workout but the battery died and apparently the progress to that point was not stored. Great concept but frustrating at best.

Good build poor call quality, not worth it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought these earbuds because I am a huge Samsung product fan; the product is build is top notch; as stated in several reviews once you find the correct wing and ear tip the earbuds fit comfortably and snug within the ear . Audio sound was fair, I didn't get a great bass sound as compared to my iron man earphones. Battery life was ok, I was able to get about 1.5 hrs of continuous use out of the ear buds. My biggest gripe is that the earbuds cannot pair with any other blue tooth enabled product that cannot download the Samsung Gear app (no laptop support); that alone is absurd to say that these are $200.00 earbuds. I am returning them for that reason as I was looking for a product I could seamlessly switch between my laptop and mobile devices.

Samsung - Gear Iconx Earbud Wireless Headphones
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great looking earbuds and they are nice and small. They do fit in your ear and stay in as advertised. However, the sound quality is poor. I read several reviews and there were mixed reviews. I purchased these earbuds and learned the following: They do pair up with your iPhone Bluetooth. You cannot download music on these through any Mac system / Apple product. The sound quality is poor and surrounding noise drowns out your music. I ended up returning these after one use. I chose to purchase the Bose SoundSport wireless headphones. The sound quality is amazing and the volume of your music is louder than your surroundings. And lastly, these are light and they also stay in your ear without any issue and are comfortable during long runs.

Recommended to friends, with caution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start with the positives of these earbuds. First, the sound is extraordinary! They certainly sound better than the earbuds that come with any Samsung phone. They are light! The earbuds themselves are extremely light, and they bear little weight on the ears. The touch controls are convenient, and they are easy to use. And! The Bass is amazing on these! Close to Beats quality on the bass of certain songs! The negatives are that they do tend to fall out, when looking down, or doing everyday tasks. They are not very comfortable. I even used the smaller ear pieces, and they still aren't comfortable. It is the little loop that makes them uncomfortable. If I were able to take those off (and I did try, but the plastic against the ears were not comfortable) they would be better. Overall, I would recommend them to a friend, but I would recommend them with caution.

Earbuds That Promise So Much...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bluetooth headphones, in their earliest incarnation, became available to consumers in 2004, promising to rid the world of wires. Rather than signal the death knell of traditional wired headphones, they have become bedfellows with their wired counterparts, offering wireless convenience that is, in a great many’s minds, outweighed by the inconvenience of battery life and the need to charge them. While battery life for over-ear headphones is less of an issue, in-ear earbuds still face challenges due to the lack of real estate available to the battery. Personally, I use a combination of solutions for this reason; bluetooth for gym usage and short commutes, wired headphones for longer commutes, running and long-distance travel. 2016 has been something of a second coming for Bluetooth and wireless technology, specifically due to Apple’s contentious decision to deprive their user base of a headphone port; a move that, concerningly, Samsung is rumoured to be following with the S8. Whether Samsung’s Gear Icon X are an intentional challenge to Apple’s own AirPods is unknown; while the rivalry between the two companies would suggest they are, they were announced two months before the AirPods, and beat the Apple product to market, and the AirPods seem inadequate for exercise, while the Icon X offers a number of features geared towards the fitness market. So, if we are moving into this brave new wireless world (unless you’re content using an awkward dongle), these things had better be good, right? Well, while I can’t speak for the AirPods, I certainly can for the Gear Icon X. To begin with the Icon X are clearly a premium offering. $200 gets you two earbuds, with a rubber inner ear locking design that I’d seen previously with my YurBuds, together with a small clasp case that contains an additional battery, for charging the headphones when you’re out and about. The locking design works incredibly well, and, after you’ve picked from the three sizes of both the buds and the inner ear lock, you’ll never feel like the headphones are likely to drop out. The case is reassuringly weighty, with a satisfying click as you lock then in place to charge. The sound quality, too, is superb. Deep and bassy, without being overpowering, with crisp highs, the Icon X are faultless. While they block out any external sound, as you might expect, they do offer an ‘ambient sound’ mode, that uses a microphone to play ambient sounds to the user while they have the headphones in. This is extremely useful when wandering around town, enabling you to hear traffic and other noises that could pose a hazard. So far, so good. However, it’s here where the Icon X’s flaws make themselves know. The Icon X are packed with great ideas; the charging case, the ambient sound mode are just two. Another is the sensors on each earbud, that detect when the earbuds are in your ear, switching themselves off when they aren’t. Well, a great idea also needs great execution, and in this case, Samsung missed the mark. Getting the earbuds to detect they are in your ears isn’t the problem, what becomes a problem is when, after ten minutes of wearing them, they think they’ve fallen out. I mentioned that the in-ear locking design works fantastically? Well, while they feel like they do, the sensors frequently disagree with you. During an hour session at the gym, I was notified they were falling out of my ears by the tone they emit (when they didn’t feel like they were) four times. Granted, using gym equipment requires a great deal of movement, but sweat seemed to make the sensor act up even more frequently. Walking around town, I had the same issue twice; and it’s not just a case of pushing the earbud in further, you have to fiddle with them for far longer than you ever should until you hear the tone to indicate the earbud is secure. Not only this, but the device has a touch sensitive outer shell, designed to give the user the ability to skip and pause music. Again, another nice idea, but it’s far too easy to accidentally operate the skip or pause function when simply trying to fit the things back inside your ear. The reason for the in-ear sensors is an attempt to preserve battery, which is critical due to the headphones extremely disappointing battery life. One occasion I made note of, I took the Icon X out of their case at 6.40pm on 100% charge; by 7.05, my phone app told me they had used ⅓ the battery already. After an hour, the left earbud had half the battery left, but the right, the ‘lead earbud’, had ¼ battery left, and was marked red. On another occasion I had an alert that told me 10% of the battery was left; I timed this at 17 minutes before the earbud switched off. The charging case is there for a reason. The earbuds each contain a 47mAh battery, which means that the case should be able to fill the pair of earphones with charge three times. This is extremely useful to have to hand, and works as a great companion and carry case, but the average 1-2 usage on a single charge is still a disappointment. Beyond that, the Gear Icon X does have the ability to store music in the headphones itself, together with tracking fitness activities, such as running and walking. Since a hard drive crash a few years ago wiped out several hundred mp3s (and lost a hundred of so permanently, such was my lax attitude to backing up), I stream all of my music, so the storage is not an aspect of the device that appeals. That said, there are plenty of people who would relish the opportunity to run without their cellphone, while still tracking their activity and listen to music. Ultimately, for all its great ideas, the Icon X feels like it was rushed out without being adequately tested in a bid to beat the AirPods to the punch. I could live with the battery life due to the charging case, but the issue with the sensors left me frustrated and cold. For $200, I want an impeccable pair of earphones; instead I got a pair that promised so much, sounded so great, but fell badly short when it came to usability.

This WILL WORK for iOS devices!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Gear X will absolutely work with your iPhone when using it just to stream or listen to your music! It's only not compatible if your using the fitness tracker, because you need the specific app that is only avalible for Andriod devices!! All you do is take the buds out of case and put them in your ears and go to Bluetooth setting in iOS device and pair.... BooM!

Don't Hestitate
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've lusted after the Gear X Icon, especially with Apple's delay of their wireless headset. Still once Inwas able to order Apple's headset I wanted the Gear for my Android headset (I must have an iPhone and Android handset, pure greed). The cost has always been an issue but when considering all that Samsung has packed into these buds, you're unlikely to find a worthy competitor. I initially tried using my Gear Icons right out the box, and I'll warn all to avoid the frustration that comes with impatience. Charge the set completely since you'll want to play music for as long possible once you get everything paired and set up. I'm thoroughly impressed with the sound quality and noise cancellation of the headset. With the Gear Icons on and no music playing the world around you is virtually silent. Listening to your favorite tunes is taken to a new level due to the sound quality and lack of interference. I am an audiophile, with 4 different headsets purchased this year alone (Sony, Skull Candy BT, B&O, and Bose) and despite all 4 being great, Samsung's entry is at the top for pure audio bliss. You'll hear every nuance, high and low notes, and the array of instruments sounds used in music production today! WARNING: The earbuds do sit rather deep within the ear, so don't ruin your hearing by blasting the ample volume these babies are to reach. Besides exercising some common sense you'll find the Gear X Icon Headset to be worth dollar you spend (especially if you obtain a pay.

Great earbuds!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are awesome little earbuds. You can load music on them directly, so you don't need you phone connected (great for running or other activities). But I use them mainly connected to my phone. They work great as bluetooth headphones with my iPhone 7 Plus. But where they really shine is with the Samsung Galaxy S7. Being able to hear the ambient noise with them in is super useful!

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.LISTEN THE CONCEPT BEHIND THIS PRODUCT IS GREAT BUT IT'S A THEORY STRAIGHT UP WORK IN PROGRESS... THEY ONLY PRODUCE MUSIC FOR ABOUT HOUR AND A HALF. IF WIND HITS THEM THEY BEGIN SKIP AND STOP AND ALL KINDS OF DISFUNCTION SO FORGET ABOUT RUNNING OUT DOORS. GO TO SLEEP ON THAT ONE. IN DOORS THEY ARE DECENT. BUT THE BATTERY LIFE IS BEYOND ANNOYING. THATSO ALL I GOTTA SAY HOPEFULLY THE NEXT GENERATION IS LOADS BETTER WITH RESPECT TO FUNCTIONALITY AND BATTERY LIFE. KINDA ANGRY REAL TALK! FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY I SPENT.

Incredible tech & engineering, fails on basics
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These headphones pack an incredible amount of technology into an impossibly small package. It's a music player with onboard storage for music or you can play from your phone over Bluetooth. Controls are handled by touchpads on the sides of the earbuds through swipes and jesters are a great idea and well executed. There's a microphone so you can use them as a Bluetooth headset to answer phone calls. It even tracks your workouts and knows when you've inserted them in your ear (sort of). The case, also acts as a charger and spare battery for the Icon X. Everything looks great on paper but it fails miserably on the basics. The earbuds are angled in a way that makes it very uncomfortable for me to wear (same for my wife). They also need to be inserted pretty deep into your ear compared to regular earbuds. The rubber inserts on the tips are rough and dry (for lack of a better word) feeling. Then there is the sound quality. It's terrible. Music played from it is flat and dull. I wasn't expecting great sound but these sound about as good as a pair of $5 headphones. The other problem is the battery life. Since the Gear X are so small the battery life is short and you'll need to carry the case around if you plan on using them for more than an hour. For me carrying around a case sort of defeats the purpose of the product. It's like removing a 3.5 mm headphone jack to make a phone smaller but then you're forced to carry a dongle that is 1/2 the size of the phone. I'm also not too keen on the idea of radio signals being beamed though my head just to cut the cord. For me cutting the cord just isn't worth it.

Good Concept. Wait for the next generation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although the Samsung Icon X is extremely comfortable, it it difficult to control. The touch pad needs to be refined before it can be considered unable. There were way too many times during a run or working out, I needed to stop and check if you workout was still being recorded or if it stopped when I adjusted volume. The built-in in 4Gb player was a nice touch. This device is not suitable to be used as a daily Bluetooth headset in a professional environment. It is difficult to quickly answer or hang up phone calls. The charging case was a welcomed addition to this product. Volume leveling this device is about right. I would recommend a future generation on this product as there is a bit of refining to be done. I will be excited to see what Samsung is able to do.with this device and look forward to checking this product out again. My suggestion would be to add an independent volume bar inaddition to the touch pad. Also, add voice prompts to answer calls, start or stop workout or control volume. This way this device can be more effectively used in all situations.
