This Samsung soundbar produces amazing sound. I have a television in the living room that already has a soundbar and subwoofer, but it is 4 years old and much smaller. My first thought was to replace my old soundbar with this new Samsung soundbar, but it would not be used properly with this setup. So instead I took it to my media room where you can really use the capabilities of this Samsung soundbar. It is very easy to setup, it comes with instructions that are easy to follow. There are many ways to setup this system, you just have to choose what is best for your set up. I haven't had the pleasure of enjoying the Dolby Atmos because the set up requires an extra connection back to the television. My wife and I were blown away by the amazing sound that came out of this soundbar. The volume was only turned to 25 and it was already very impressive. As we watched a football game, we were able to hear sounds from the game that we normally to pick up on. We can't wait to watch an action movie with this. If you enjoy rich and amazing sound, then I would highly recommend this Samsung soundbar.

      Raymond:

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung HW-N850 Soundbar with Dolby Atmos Technology. I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with its sound performance.

The Subwoofer is responsible for low frequency sounds. Therefore, you will not actually hear audio such as speaking or sound effects coming from the subwoofer, only deep bass and low frequency vibrations.

The best way to determine if the Subwoofer is working is to play a movie with plenty of explosions and then place your hand on the subwoofer. You will feel vibrations as the subwoofer receives and transmits the incoming audio from the content you are playing.

You can try the following steps to increase the Subwoofer volume level:
1.Press the S/W level button on the Sound bar remote. SW 00 will appear on the front display of the Sound bar.
2.Press the + button above the S/W level button on the Sound bar remote to increase the S/W volume. It can be set from SW+01 to SW+06, the higher the number, the louder the bass.
3.Press the S/W - button to decrease the S/W volume.
4.Play some music or an action-packed movie to test.

Honestly loved the product until it just stopped working. Trying now to remedy the issue with Best Buy and Samsung Service. The Soundbar only emits loud popping and crackling noises when it's turned on. I've spent 3hrs so far trying to establish some path toward a fix. No progress thus far. Will update based on Service experience based on resolution.

I usually view a soundbar as an external addition to a television with weak internal speakers - I wouldn't rely on it for an immersive audio experience, only to pick up the volume a bit in a room with poor acoustics and if I'm lucky, to add a little bit of bass. The Harman Kardon Soundbar from Samsung is not your average piece of equipment. It can turn your living room into the home theater you didn't think was possible from a soundbar. It comes packaged with a remote, subwoofer, and wall brackets. Easy to follow instructions will get you up and running quickly with plenty of connectivity options for your setup - HDMI, bluetooth, optical - all the standard fare and very simple to plug and play. For my setup, I tested the bar with both a Samsung 4K HDR curved TV as well as with an Amazon Firestick connected to an Epson Home Cinema projector. I found setup for each to be quick and foolproof. With the streaming stick, I used bluetooth and haven't experienced much lag, but there is a noticeable jump in quality with the HDMI setup. If you want the Dolby Atmos feel with sound hitting you from multiple angles, this is an affordable alternative to some more complete stereo packages. It is surprising how rich and enveloping the sound is. The N850 doesn't come with rear speakers, only the massive bar and equally hefty subwoofer. But the bar is more than enough for my needs. I didn't mount it, but visually it looks stunning below the wall-mounted curved TV. Another plus is it automatically connects wirelessly to the subwoofer, and as an Alexa-enabled device, it connects very quickly to the Firestick with voice command. The sound of this thing fills the room, floor to ceiling, not to mention my entire house on multiple levels. It will impress as it packs a huge punch for just a soundbar and subwoofer combo. This is definitely a must-buy for audiophiles building space-conscious home theaters, or for anyone with doubts about how effective a soundbar can really be. The Harmon Kardon by Samsung is a game-changer. Full disclosure, I received this product for my unbiased, honest review.

It’s important to note the price difference between this Samsung soundbar/subwoofer and other soundbars available on the market: Dolby Atmos. In order to make the most of it, be prepared to have two other speakers around to get a true surround sound experience. Comparable products run in the high hundreds to mid-$1000 range for 7.1.2 setups. That being said, we have been very, very pleased with the output from this soundbar and subwoofer. The highs and lows are clear and bring lots of clarity, even on normal TV viewing, to our overall home audio experience. The soundbar is really bulky compared to others available on the market, but they justify it well with the omnidirectional speakers (save for rear) that are available here. The soundbar justifies the lack of omnidirectional speakers by showing the ideal placement on its promotional video – mounted on a wall underneath the TV – and this omission thus makes sense to me. Because the bar is so bulky and heavy it’ll take a surprising amount of work to hook up to your system, but fortunately the subwoofer wirelessly connects to the bar once it’s been turned on and operation following that is effortless. I love the sleekness of the remote and easy overall control, and the subtlety of the bass that doesn’t distort or rattle the walls. It’s a great speaker set that in my opinion really justifies its price with its quality. Would definitely recommend.

I have a TCL 4k tv, Netflix with a 4k account, DirecTV with a 4k receiver, and several movies on my online movie account, and a iPhone 7 I connected to test this soundbar. When people say this is a big soundbar, they are not kidding. I have a 49" 4k TV I bought for my bedroom, and of course the sound is lacking and have really wanted to upgrade the audio, and this sounded perfect. When I saw the box delivered I felt bad for the FedEx man. The connections were pretty simple, the power cables are too short and I had to move around some other furniture. This does include an HDMI cable (did not verify which one but it works). I connected to my TV ARC-HDMI cable. I can't control the TV easily with my remote (the sound bar is taller than the sensor on my TV), so will need to get the TV mounted to the wall above the speaker. When I powered on the system, No sound. I connected to my phones Bluetooth and connected just fine. I checked my connections, and the TV settings. I had to email TCL for a walk thru on a external speaker. After several tries I was able to get audio. My DirecTV remote can control the audio volume along with the included Samsung remote. My first movie to play was the 4k version of Ready Player One. if you use the included remote there are 3 audio settings ( you cant tell what they are till you read the manual but they are Standard, Surround and Smart). I worked thru the 3 settings. To me and my roommate the sound was very hollow. we used the advanced settings on the app, there are only music options which seems limiting so we just settled on pop to watch a movie. I moved to Netflix and found a Lost in Space was in in Dolby, the sound was good, I was not blown away. it sounded better than my TV speakers if course. Setting up Alexa is the same with all other devices, add the skill "Samsung wireless audio" and add the device. I could not get Alexa to control the sound. I am not a super audiophile, but I like to hear what I like. Setup with a non Samsung TV was complicated, the sound was OK, and I could not get Alexa to control to audio. I tweaked the audio settings and I did get some improvement on the audio. I am sure some of this is me and not the sound bar and the settings between my TV and the soundbar. I don't have a 4k player and that may have caused some issues. But for this being a higher end soundbar, this would seem to be less complicated. With all of this, give it a try and see if it works for you.

Samsung N850 is a series 8 soundbar with 5.1 2 channel speaker configuration w/wireless subwoofer. This item was truly made to plug and play. Out of the box I plugged in my projector to the HDMI Arch slot, have a Roku 4K device in HDMA 1 and a Samsung BluRay player in HDMI 2. Then I took the Subwoofer out of the box and plugged it in. After turning the soundbar on the subwoofer immediately connected. I rarely see this in a high-end speaker system. I usually always have to synch them but this one just found it and presto I had instant success. Now I always try to update the firmware before serious testing begins and this is a bit different. You activate the wireless function from the remote and use the Samsung Smart Things, app and once its connected all updates will be automatic. Now the interface for this device is all on the app not the TV or video source so that's a bit different. The performance is great. The app has settings for the equalizer and you can either go basic, with Treble and Bass, or you can go Advanced and have more than 7 different level changes as well as 3 presets listed as Pop, Jazz or Classical. The remote is basic with buttons for On/Off, Pairing, source, mute, surround mode, settings, and 2 volume controls, one for the soundbar and the other for the sub. So it's not overly complicated. I set this to surround mode and had the sub was set at mid range and wow the room was filled with true 5.1 surround sound. Was playing Jurassic Park Fallen kingdom. I was in heaven. The 4k pass thru and 13 built-in multi-directional speakers work effortlessly and has 372 watts of power. This is true theater sound and will make a nice addition for anyone's living room that wants this kind of sound with a small footprint. I'm not going to go all out techi on you, I will just say this is the first (and I have 3 sound bars) that really blows my mind. The sound is just superb out of the box. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

In the last month I tested out the LG SK10Y and the Sony Ht-z9f and also and old school Samsung K850 and this newest model N850. I would have to say that the LG SK10Y gave the best dolby atmos experience but it loses dialogue/voice volume during action or suspense scenes so I rated it a 3 star for that reason. The Sony ht-z9f I will have to say is really awesome soundbar when paired with the rear speakers more immersive feeling. Now for the Samsung N850, well it's great but I really felt after listening to all 3 sound bars at home that the N850 loses its 5.1 surround because it's too front heavy really hard to distinguish the different speakers. The LG sk10y did a beautiful job but without dialogue hard to keep it. The N850 has a lot of base which I felt with a tad but of over kill. Their was bass in scene that didn't need bass. For those who want the N850 and pair it with the SWA 9000s/za let me tell you that you will be very disappointed. The rear speakers really are bad. At times no noise was coming out and if there was it was way to low to even hear. Not loud enough to give you that immersive feeling. I would suggest upgrading to the N950 because this is a long time investment so dont regret it down the road. I think I will stick with the sony ht-z9f with the rear speakers it's way more balanced out and really feels more like cinematic than the LG sk10y and the N850. I'm not into the music playing but it's all 3 sound great as well as for TV.

    Quality soundbar, one Achilles heel

I've owned the N850 for almost two months now. I also purchased the rear surrounds also (highly recommend). Review numbers below: Sound quality: 5 out of 5 Aesthetics: 5 out of 5 Bass: 4 out of 5 (subwoofer is a little weak) Atmos: 5 out of 5 Alexa integration: 2 out of 5 (I've paired it several times, Alexa keeps saying there's a problem or its not responding) Now here is my Achilles heel. The soundbar will turn off after 5-10 minutes of no sound! This is an energy saving feature that you CANNOT turn off as there is no setting for it! If you have to pause a movie to make a quick snack and you sit back down and press play, the soundbar is off! It's extremely annoying. Samsung needs to add a setting to shut the energy saving feature off, 5-10 minutes is way too short, it should be at least 2 hours. I am tempted to return this soundbar because of this issue, its frustrating.

This soundbar came packaged very well and is very heavy! The setup seemed quite straight-forward as the subwoofer is wireless. I tinkered with the unit for quite a while, first following the directions in the small instruction booklet, then advancing to the online instructions, and finally finding an answer in an online forum. My current television must have been the last model created without an ARC HDMI socket! I was finally able to connect the soundbar to the TV via digital optical cable. Alas, that means I cannot get the full-range of sound from the soundbar. The sound is about the same as I had before, but there are no longer any wires snaking around the living room connecting to my old school receiver. I really want to give this two stars for the horrible instructions that never mention the possibility that someone is connecting to a TV that doesn't have the right type of HDMI socket. Why not put that in the longer instructions online, or even in the Troubleshooting section? I will also mention that the instructions they give for digital optical do not work and I plugged the BD player directly into an HDMI socket on the television. I also think that the box or other advertisement should be more clear that it will not work for all televisions. Yes, my television is nine years old, but it works beautifully for me! The price of new TVs with the ARC is quite inexpensive, but I am someone who does not replace 'unbroken' things. As far as using the soundbar, it seems really nice. The subwoofer has no problem connecting. It took a while to figure out how the rocker buttons work on the remote. I do not like these buttons as I have large hands and they are easy to push the wrong direction. I would prefer a left to right button if they are using this type of button, but overall would prefer a true 'rocker' button and not a tiny blip of a button. I would recommend this to a friend who has a more recent TV.

This soundbar is amazing. The sound produced makes movies come alive. Seriously, it's like being in a theater. You don't get the back speakers so you don't quite get the sense of things flying by you but it does a great job if coming close. I expected that since I went for the 850 vs the 950. I would get the 850 again for the cost savings. The extra two speakers are not needed. The sound fills my whole down stairs which is about 1700 sqft at just a volume level of 20 out of 100. The clarity is perfect. You can really hear every detail in everything you watch or listen to. I have gamed with it, watch movies and TV, and listen to music, it does everything well. Get this soundbar, you will not regret it.
