I was very disappointed with this product. Initially the sound quality was great and I considered it a pretty good value having purchased the item on sale. Sadly, two months after the manufacturers warranty expired it stopped working completely for no apparent reason. I went through all the troubleshooting and nothing made a difference. Samsung’s repair estimate was roughly the same cost as my purchase price for the unit. If you do buy this system, do yourself a favor and get the extended coverage.

      DavidG,

Thank you for taking a moment to review the Samsung HW-B650 Soundbar.

There are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot your Soundbar.

First, you will want to download the latest software for your Soundbar. You can download the firmware directly from Samsung’s website by clicking “Support” in the top right corner. Then go to “Manuals & Software” > “TVs & Home Audio” > “Home Audio” > “Sound Bars”. From there, you can select the HW-B650 under Standard Series.

Download the update and install it via USB thumb stick to your soundbar. If you need additional help, there are how-to instructions on this page. Please know that Samsung Customer Service is here to assist as well.

Alternatively, you can download SmartThings on your iOS or Android device. This will allow you to update your Soundbar automatically or manually right from your phone or tablet.

Please verify that you are running the latest firmware on your TV. You can check to see what software version your TV is using and if there is an available update through the settings on your TV. Go to: Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update.

First, try doing a soft reset, unplug the soundbar from the outlet for roughly 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

If this still does not correct your issue, then do a hard reset. With the Soundbar on, press the + & - Volume buttons on the body of the soundbar at the same time for at least 5 seconds. INIT OK” appears on the display and then the Soundbar is reset.

If you need more help, Samsung is here for you. Please call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG, 8AM - 12AM EST (Ask for Soundbars), 7 days a week. Our Live Chat agents are also available by clicking on the ‘Support’ link on our website.

I thought this would be a good plus for our home, once we have the HW-T510... and it is super nice. BUT....but, this HW-B650/ZA volume, specially bass, sounds like 70% of the 4 years old soundbar. The subwoofer has only 45W. Comparing to the old one 55W you should see. Definitely disappointed ... and if you really want to try, at any BrandsSmart they are selling it for $199... no membership required. DISAPPOINTED!!!!

The sound bar itself is good, however the customer service and the description of the product was disastrous!! I got a Open Box in "EXCELLENT" condition. According to Best Buy, this means that it just like new and comes like new and everything is new, just that the box was opened. I received this in WAY LESS THAN POOR CONDITION. there was a rip in the corner of the subwoofer, scratches all over the entire thing and IT DID NOT HAVE A BOX AT ALL!

I tried writing a reciew on this but the best buy app sucks. This sansung sound bar is not loud or strong engough. Only when music is playing through it at volumn 100. I am using the optical cable and set up everything correctly. It is just garbage for the price. The tv speakers are louder than the bar. Avoid.

      Hi JohnA,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re dissatisfied with the performance of your HW-B650 Soundbar.

I am sorry to hear that you are not completely satisfied with the overall volume of the soundbar. If you don't have a surround system, you will probably want to select PCM audio on your TV. You'll get much louder volume that way, and potentially better sound quality.

If your Digital Output Audio Format isn't set to PCM, for instance if you have a Dolby option selected, then you will likely notice decreased maximum volume. Dolby options are designed for surround systems (like 3.1.2 or 7.1), whereas PCM provides great sound quality for stereo speakers.

On a Samsung TV this can be found at Home > Settings > Sound > Expert Settings. (It can also be found in the Quick Settings.)

I hope this tip helps improve your enjoyment. For more help, please call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG (Ask for Soundbars), 8 AM – 12 AM EST, 7 days a week. Live Chat with an agent as well as manuals, software, and warranty info can be found at the ‘Support’ link on our Samsung website.

Harsh Sound and Terrible User Interface

We have a home with a great room that has a lot of glass and 16' high ceilings so there is not a good place to mount a flat screen to a wall. Flat screens need to be mounted to a wall in order for rear firing speakers to be heard properly, with sound bouncing off the wall and back towards the viewer. So I found a mobile Flat screen stand which is perfect to mount our 55" Samsung. And it has an accessory shelf on the post below the screen mount. I decided to buy this B650 sound bar to solve my sound problem since I could secure it to that shelf. Got everything hooked up and was totally bummed at how lousy the sound is, from this soundbar and its wireless Sub Woofer. Everything is harsh, high pitched, unnatural and tinny...you name it. Dialogue is hard on the ears and there are no low-mids in the mix. And the woofer doesn't contribute enough to compensate for the highs. The sound bar, controlled by way of the remote control has EQ features which are supposed to allow you to tweak the sound in a limited number of EQ bandwidths which are available to change, by pushing buttons on the remote. But this remote is so non-intuitive and convoluted in its processes and the buttons you have to push to do anything, that I had to print out the User Manual from Samsung's website and keep it at my side, anytime I wanted to change something. The user interface is horrible because anything that you ask the remote to do, shows up in a very tiny scrolling text window 2" wide on the far right side of the soundbar. And each command you give only allows about 5 seconds on screen before it disappears and you have to re-activate the remote request again, all the while having to refer to the printed user manual at your side. There are button commands on this remote that you will never see on other remotes. With each button push, you are required to step through other button pushes to activate an action. To make matters worse the included user guide is one sheet of paper folded into fourths with print so small that I had to literally get out a magnifying glass to read...thus I had to go to Samsung's website to download a full size PDF to decipher the complicated interface of the remote signals sent to the soundbar. The less than adequate sound in a big room coming from the Samsung flat screen rear firing speakers ended up being 100% better than this sound bar coming straight at me. This sound bar is all treble with no low midrange to fill the sound spectrum. And the woofer doesn't contribute enough volume to balance out the horrible sound. If you have any appreciation for simply average to decent sound, you will be gravely disappointed in this lack luster sound bar. I also want to add that I am a huge fan of Samsung since I have 2 Samsung Smart Phones, 3 Samsung Flat Screens in my home, as well as several other Samsung devices. Thus it was a supreme disappointment to see the ball dropped on this product. I purchased this originally at $399 in mid 2023 and it currently sells for $199 everywhere. That should tell you something. It is not even worth $99. In fact if someone gave this to me as gift, I would give it away or sell it on eBay or Facebook Marketplace. On a side note, we have a 55" Samsung on a wall mount in our bedroom and 2 years ago, I wanted to supplement its sound with a soundbar and a wireless Sub and purchased a Polk Audio - Signa S2 for $199 and it is FAR superior to this Samsung, so I returned the Samsung and purchased another Polk and am now a happy camper in our great room. I should have purchased the Polk to begin with, but hey, I believe in Samsung and this had fabulous reviews (for no apparent reason).

Love Samsung Products, I own 3 - just not this one

I own the Samsung Q-Series 9.1.4 system - which is excellent and on the high end and is attached to my #1 television which is located in the den, so I'm set there. My plan was to use my den television for programs that required the best sound. My living room television with great high-end picture, had lame sound quality. In there, I felt I didn't need the same high-end sound, but something better than what came with the television that would be "adequate". After reading reviews and wanting to stay with Samsung (both the televisions are 75 inch Samsungs), I purchased the HW-B650/ZA system. I may have gotten a bad bar as it didn't put out enough sound - even sitting close to the television - it had to be turned up to 100% to really even hear it. A Best Buy Geek came out to check on them as they were not performing anywhere near my expectations. He agreed that the performance was inadequate and should be returned. So I returned the soundbar, something I rarely do and feel rather uncomfortable doing. I'm used to being satisfied with my Best Buy purchases right out of the box. Sound bars are tricky because most of the time, you can not hear them in the store - they can only put so many bars out for demos. So you must trust the specs, reviews manufacturers price point values and sales recommendations before purchasing one. I had read several reviews from users that really liked this soundbar. But, one doesn't know what they're getting until you connect it to the television. I ended up getting a sound bar that's in a higher quality and price point category, that's very good. But was disappointed that I couldn't purchase a "decent" bar in this price range.

This was purchased as a Christmas gift. After hooking it up to a Toshiba 4k TV using the ARC connection type the device connected and played sound. However, the volume indicator on the TV started to randomly display every 30 seconds or so and the sound bar would go from "TV ARC" to "HDMI"... Not even thirty minutes later it became more pronounced and if I attempted to change the TV to something like the built in Netflix app, the sound bar would change from "TV ARC" to "HDMI" again forcing the TV to change back to TV Mode and take me out of the Netflix app. I attempted to change to HDMI 2 to put on a BluRay and it would force the TV back to HDMI 1 again. I attempted to get into the TV Settings but the sound bar again forced it back to HDMI 1 not even 15 seconds later. I finally went and disconnected the sound bar and the HDMI shenanigans stopped. This device didn't work out of the box and it's going back. I looked through the reviews on here for this product and there are several people that have had issues with this soundbar. Given it didn't work out of the box and the other negative reviews I won't be buying another Samsung soundbar as a result...

I returned this item as soon as it arrived. I ordered a matching TV on 2 different occasions from the store to be delivered. This first time, the order was automatically canceled with no explanation 30 minutes after the delivery window had passed. The second time i ordered the TV i scheduled it to be installed by the Geek Squad and less than 12 hours before delivery they told me they were unable to deliver and install my TV. The customer service for Best Buy is complete trash and i will most likely never purchase anything from this company again.

I purchased this as an open box item in excellent condition. It was definitely not in excellent condition, though. "Excellent" is Best Buy's "like new" condition in the original packaging with all parts included. The sound bar and subwoofer were just handed to my boyfriend when he picked it up. No packaging at all. Scratches on them and all parts missing except for the bar, subwoofer, and power cords. It is supposed to come with mounting hardware, a remote, an optical cable, and a few other items I wasn't concerned about (per the Samsung website). This would all be fine if I had ordered it in "fair" condition, but I did not. The store did offer me the difference in price between the Fair and excellent Condition product, so I tried to work with that. But adding a remote and optical cable ended up costing me more than the soundbar costs brand new. So I took it back and looked at other sound bars. I am so glad I did. Even the floor model of this sounded bad. I ended up spending a few hundred extra dollars that I did not plan on spending and I am ultimately much happier. Luckily the return policy is awesome and the store associates were happy to help with the return and also help me find the right sound bar for me. So 0 stars for the product, 0 stars for the experience of purchasing this open box item, but 5 stars for return process and helpfulness of the employees.

Bought this soundbar due to it being on sale and was genuinely excited. When I hooked it up the first night, the optical line kept cutting in and out. I switched to hdmi-arc which worked great for 3 months, until it didn’t work. The only mode that works on this soundbar is Bluetooth. I really wanted hdmi-arc for the higher quality sound. I called Samsung and spent 40 minutes on the phone trying to fix it he issue, only to now having to ship it directly back. I’d stay away from this one. With the money you would use to buy a warranty you can get a better soundbar.

Sounds good when it works, I don't know if it happens to every Bluetooth subwoofer but it stops working randomly during movies, music and it is very annoying since you lose the bass for about 3-5 seconds every other minute. for this price range the subwoofer shouldn't be doing that, very poor quality. They should have stuck with wired connections since all their Bluetooth subwoofers have the same issue from what I read online. I will be replacing it and I will update the review if it was just a faulty one or if it's just an issue that all of them have, now I have to carry this big box into the bus to send it back.

Terrible. I didn’t set it up right away because I was waiting until I moved into new place. When I touch a button on remote it turns off. Have to unplug it and replug it then it works for like 15 minutes before cutting out again. Volume randomly goes super loud. I called Best Buy and they wouldn’t do anything for me and sent me to Samsung. Samsung wants me to send this whole big system in by the mail and not have it for months. SUPER bummed.

DO NOT EVERY HIRE GEEK SQUAD!!

DO NOT EVER HIRE GEEK SQUAD TO INSTALL A TV IN YOUR HOME!! I spent over $6000 on two Samsung TVs, sound bar, and Geek Squad wall-mounting Installation. My biggest mistake was hiring Geek Squad! Oner of the TVs did not work properly on the day of installation. The technician blamed the Direct TV box for the TV not working properly. I relied on his expertise. It took me another 6 weeks or so for Direct TV to replace my box. A second Geek Squad technician evaluated the problem - he also blamed Direct TV. I have now had 3 new Direct TV boxes delivered and installed in my home, but the Samsung TV still does not work! Now, Best Buy tells me there is nothing they can do to resolve the situation as the TV is beyond its return period. The only reason it is beyond the return period is because I relied on the technicians advice and had to wait for new Direct TV boxes. I have called Best Buy customer service numerous times - no resolution. I have spoken to the local Best Buy store manager - no resolution. I have requested that Geek Squad come back to my house, but they refuse to send another technician. DO NOT EVER HIRE GEEK SQUAD! I WANT MY $6000 BACK!!

Don’t do it. Started buzzing about 2 months after use. Tried new hdmi, optical cable and on another tv. The buzzing sticks. It’s intermittent but consistent enough to ruin a show/movie/game. Do not waste your money.

This soundbar stopped working a week or so ago and I couldn't be more disappointed. The initial Bluetooth set up was easy and the sound is great. Overall I thought it was a great complement to my new LG TV. But suddenly - the bluetooth stopped connecting and using the HDMI cord isn't working either. My life is crazy busy - so to have to spend hours trying to resolve this is a huge issue for me. I'm too tired today to think next steps but- right now - I'm just bothered!!! I decided to give Samsung a try and at this point - I truly regret it.
