Good soundbar, strong sound, subwoofer is strong and between the two the sound fills my decent sized living room. Subtracting one star because Samsung stopped making the compatible rear surround sound speakers for this set (SWA9200S) and any others made in 2024 (although I purchased this in 2025). Best Buy already sold me one incompatible set of rear speakers that I am returning. I’m stuck with an incomplete system until I find the rest of it secondhand.

Entry-level upgrade to your TV speakers. Good enough for most living rooms. Easy recommendation for folks with a Samsung TV for the integration, but everyone else should consider a Majority soundbar for price-to-performance. Even consider just getting a bar to match your TV’s brand since most brands lock out features otherwise. Just don’t pay more than $200 for it.

      Hi BrandonR,

The HW-B650 features three ways to connect to an external device: HDMI (ARC), digital optical audio, and Bluetooth wireless audio technology. If your TV is compatible with one of these three audio connections, you should have no issue connecting the soundbar to your TV.

      Hello Rome,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding the audio quality of the HW-B650 Samsung Soundbar. I am sorry to see that your initial time has not been ideal.

You can optimize your audio performance to your liking by pressing the SOUND MODE button on your soundbar remote, and then selecting the desired sound effect by choosing SURROUND SOUND, BASS BOOST, GAME, ADAPTIVE, DTS VIRTUAL:X, STANDARD.

By pressing the TONE CONTROL button, you can adjust the volume of the treble or bass sound. Press the button to select TREBLE or BASS and then adjust the volume between -6~+6 by using the Up/Down buttons.

Press and hold the SOUND CONTROL button for about 5 seconds to adjust the sound for each frequency band. 150Hz, 300Hz, 600Hz, 1.2kHz, 2.5kHz, 5kHz, and 10kHz are selectable using the Left/Right buttons and each can be adjusted to a setting between -6 to +6 using the Up/Down buttons. (Make sure the Sound mode is set to “STANDARD”.

Additionally, using the WOOFER button on the remote, you can adjust the subwoofer’s volume between -6 to +6 by toggling the button up or down. To set the subwoofer volume level to 0, press the button down.

The product itself is incredible and a great choice for your TV setup. Sound is crisp and loud, and the sub puts out good sound. If you are buying Open Box, be warned that you may not be receiving everything. I was given the soundbar and subwoofer wrapped individually in bubble wrap. Thankfully, the power cords were included, but I’ve heard of people not receiving cords or even the subwoofer when buying open box. There was no remote included, and I had to buy a 3rd party one. I wish that Best Buy could let you know if things are missing, because buying a refurbished product certainly implies you will be receiving everything included.

I originally hooked this up to an. Older Samsung TV (~12 yrs old) for a few days whoile awaiting on my new Samsung TV to be delivered. I hooked it up with the included fiber optic audio cable, and it sounded amazing. When my new TV arrived a few days later and we got it set up, we tried to connect it via Bluetooth--no sound whatsoever. Incredibly aggravating. I bought a new HDMI cable for it and plugged it into the back of the TV--nothing. I have not tried hooking it up to a different HDMI port yet (I had a shoulder replacement and can't move the TV right now to get to the ports), but as of right now, it's just collecting dust on my TV stand. Pretty infuriating a Samsung soundbar will not work with a new model Samsung TV (new TV does not have the fiber optic).

      Hi PerpetuallySquirrelin,

We appreciate you taking a moment to review the Samsung HW-B650 Soundbar.

If you are connecting wirelessly via Bluetooth, please follow these steps:

      1) Press the PAIR button on the remote to enter BT PAIRING mode
      a. or press the SOURCE button on the top panel and then select BT. “BT” changes to “BT PAIRING” in a few seconds automatically or changes to “BT READY” if there is a connect record.
      b. When BT READY appears, press and hold the SOURCE button on the top panel of the Soundbar for more than 5 seconds to display BT PAIRING.

      2) Select Bluetooth mode on the TV

      3) Select “[AV] Samsung Soundbar” from the list on the TV’s screen. An available Soundbar is indicated with “Need Pairing” or “Paired” on the TV’s Bluetooth device list. To connect the TV to the Soundbar, select the message, and then establish a connection. - When the TV is connected, [TV Name] → “BT” appears on the Soundbar’s front display.

      4) You can now hear TV sound from the Soundbar.

If the device fails to connect
      - If a previously connected Soundbar listing (e.g. “[AV] Samsung Soundbar xxx”) appears in the list, delete it.
      - Then repeat steps 1 through 3

Once you have connected your soundbar for the first time, use the “BT READY” mode to reconnect.

    Good Soundbar and Woofer But...

I purchased this sound bar set to direct the sound forward due to joyous playing sound my grandkids bring when visiting. The reason I gave 3 stars... The soundbar is pretty good. Addition of the Sub Woof is awesome when you have channels/movies that have bass sound signal. It does what I expected it to do. My only concern is that a few random times while watching a program, we lost sound (yes, during important dialogs too). After evaluating the bar closer, the sound bar is doing some kind of diagnostic or reset. I am not sure what is causing this, but it has occurred several times. When I find out, I will attempt to update my review.

      Hello TVSearch,

Thank you for sharing your experiences with the HW-B650 Soundbar. Your feedback is very important to us and will be shared among our internal teams.

There are a few things you can do to troubleshoot your Soundbar before contacting Samsung Customer Support. First, update your soundbar, by downloading the firmware directly from Samsung’s website by clicking “Support” in the top right corner. Then go to “Manuals & Software” > “TVs & Home Theater” > “Home Theater” > “Sound Bars”. From there, you can select the HW-B650 under Standard. Download the update and install it via a USB thumb stick to your soundbar. If you need additional help, there are how-to instructions on this page. Please know that Samsung Customer Service is here to assist as well.

If you are still experiencing this issue after doing the software update, then try doing a soft reset. This is where you will unplug the soundbar and subwoofer for roughly 30 seconds from the power outlet. After this time, plug everything back in again and see if this resolved your issue.

Lastly, if you need to, do a hard reset. With the Soundbar on, press the + & - (Volume UP/DOWN) buttons on the body at the same time for at least 5 seconds. “INIT OK” appears on the display and then the Soundbar is reset.

I hope these tips help you enjoy your new product.
You can always contact us for further help at 1-800-SAMSUNG (Ask for Soundbars), 8 AM – 12 AM EST, 7 days a week. Our LiveChat agents are also available by clicking on the ‘Support’ link on our website.

    Great soundbar for dialogue

If you are one of those that has issues understanding dialogue thru your TVs built-in speakers, this Samsung soundbar is amazing. Our 65" Samsung TV had a terribly irritating whistle with words with 'S' in them. At times i thought it was the smoke alarm in 'chirp mode'. That is completely gone with this soundbar. Its too bad other soundbars havn't figured out how to do this. The reason for the 3 stars is, after reading all the reviews, i was also expecting live concert sounding music shows. Not happening. My previous 3 letter soundbar had far too much bass but dialogue was muddy, no matter what sound mode i put it in. This Samsung is pretty good at low to mid level volume settings but for rock concerts, there's just no depth or midrange, even with the center channel maxed out. Ive moved the sub all around the room and tried every possible option with the remote and it leaves me wanting. Maybe the room is cursed. My origional 5.1 reciever/tower speakers/center and rear speakers was embarassing. I thought a high-powered soundbar and huge sub woofer would fill the bill but that too was aweful. Way too much bass and no midrange or depth. Lead guitar and horns almost didnt exist. Im not one of those that has to have chest-crushing bass with movies or music but i thought this unit, in a mid-sized living room would give a more lifelike sound. Fortunately, 85% of my viewing experience is older movies and documentaries so the excellent voice delivery is its saving grace. Thank you Samsung for giving some thought to those with compromised hearing for dialogue.

Bought this for my husband for Christmas. We previously had a surround sound system that went out. I thought this would be a good replacement but it honestly wasn't. It's not as loud as I hoped it would be. We're eventually going to have to buy some speakers to go with it to get the sound quality we want. If you're looking for surround sound, this ain't it.

Sounds great. But way too many issues with connectivity. Disconnects at times does have issues with turning the volume up and have to turn it down first before I turn it up. These issues don’t happen all the time but it’s a pain when it does because I have to turn it on and off 2 or 3 times to fix the issue. Kinda disappointed, will definitely go with another sound bar next time. Giving it a 3 out of 5 on the fact it supplies good sound but the software isn’t there.

Samsung sound bar, it sounds pretty average, I only got it to match my Samsung tv. Works fine, but doesn't replace a full surround sound AV receiver .

OK sound - easy to use. Sometimes sound is muffled and can also be extremely loud. Wish we would have done the step up we were looking at.

Easy to set up, and great sound, but it does keep disconnecting from the TV, which is annoying. You have to pair it every week or so.

Bought this to offset the poor tv volume. Specifically got Samsung because I have a Samsung tv and assumed they would work together. They really don’t. I can get the bar to turn on with the tv remote and control the volume, but about twice a day the tv will revert from the digital connection back to the tv sound. Frustrating process to swap it back. I do not have it connected via hdmi perhaps that would be better. As far as sound….it’s okay. Not a huge upgrade from the tv. Will go louder though.

      JLM99,

Thank you for taking a moment to review the Samsung HW-B650 soundbar.

Connecting your soundbar to a TV through HDMI will provide the best audio and user experience.
First connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI Arc port and the other to the HDMI OUT (TV-ARC) port on the soundbar.

Next, change the source of your soundbar to the D.IN. setting.

After a few seconds, “TV ARC” will appear on the soundbar’s display.

Here are some tips to optimize your audio performance to your liking by pressing the SOUND MODE button on your soundbar remote, and then selecting the desired sound effect by choosing SURROUND SOUND, BASS BOOST, GAME, ADAPTIVE, DTS VIRTUAL:X, STANDARD.

I hope this tip helps improve your enjoyment. For more help, please call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG (Ask for Soundbars), 8 AM – 12 AM EST, 7 days a week. Live Chat with an agent as well as manuals, software, and warranty info can be found at the ‘Support’ link on our Samsung website.
