However. the paper manual that comes with the soundbar is pretty useless for anything except default hookup. I wanted to make a simple change (have the sound bar controlled by the TV volume) and had to search out the online manual to do that.

It doesnt need a receiver like surround sound. It was slightly confusing to setup, but was not overly difficult.

When you have to bend a cord into place you risk breaking the wires in the cords and adds extra tension on the connector ports.
