Lacks atmos

Thank you for sharing your review of Samsung's HW-Q850D Soundbar.
To optimize enjoyment from the subwoofer and rear speakers, activate Surround Sound expansion by pressing the “Sound Mode” button twice until you see “Surround” on the soundbar display. Dolby Digital content will also bring out the most from the rears and subwoofer; this content is very common with most over-the-air and cable channels supporting 3.1.2 when in High Definition.

Great Customer Service

Waste of time

BestBuy did me dirty and sold me a half-functional

My issue is with Best Buy I purchased this as an open-box item, knowing that minor things might be missing (which is why the price is lower). The product description only mentioned minor cosmetic damage like "scratches and bumps"—it did NOT mention that the key rear speaker module was missing. If I had known this crucial component was absent, I would not have purchased it. Best Buy misled me by listing a fundamentally incomplete system. The staff was then unhelpful and unwilling to resolve the issue, leaving me with a half functional sound system I highly recommend the soundbar itself, but I strongly caution future buyers against purchasing from Best Buy, as their descriptions may be inaccurate and they will not help you when a core component is missing.

What was I thinking.

Thank you for taking a moment to review the Samsung HW-Q850D Soundbar.
By pressing the CH LEVEL button, you can adjust the volume of the available channels. Each time you press the CH LEVEL button it will switch to a different channel such as Center, Front Top, or Rear Level. After selecting the channel you wish to adjust, use the UP/DOWN buttons on the provided Soundbar remote to adjust the volume between -6 to +6.
You may want to check the speaker wire connection from the rear speaker that is not producing sound.

From the start, I noticed static and distorted noise when the volume was set under level 12. At first, I thought it might be a setup issue, but after troubleshooting with Samsung support and trying all their recommended solutions (including updating firmware and checking connections), the problem persisted. It became clear that the soundbar was defective. For the price, I expected better quality and a functional product. Very frustrating experience overall. I returned this soundbar and upgraded to the HW-Q910D and it works perfect and the sound is absolutely amazing, but I would not recommend the HW-Q850D soundbar.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with the sound occasionally dropping from your HW-Q850D Soundbar. You may first want to check the cable connection of the soundbar to the TV or external device to ensure it is secure, and properly connected to the correct port.
In addition to checking the connections of the soundbar, please make sure your soundbar is using the latest firmware Version. Updating the firmware on your soundbar gives you all the benefits of the latest improvements. You can update your firmware by using a USB device.
You may also want to initialize your soundbar by pressing the - and + (volume) buttons on the top of the soundbar at the same time for at least 5 seconds. “INIT OK” appears on the display and then the Soundbar is reset. Please know, this will reset all settings on the soundbar back to default; any sound adjustments will need to be performed again.
Should you continue to experience audio dropouts, and are connected wirelessly, please use the included cable to connect the soundbar to the TV. Using a wired connection instead of wireless often eliminates the issue entirely and improves the user experience.
