Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the Odyssey 49” monitor's large screen size, high refresh rate, and HDR capabilities, frequently citing vibrant images and immersive gaming experiences. However, some users reported issues with dead pixels and found the stand to be bulky and somewhat inconvenient. The limited DisplayPort options also drew criticism from some buyers. Despite these drawbacks, many praised the monitor's overall quality and curved display.

Huge crack appeared 3 days after setting it up. No I did not hit it, I did not pick it up or handle it carelessly. It was stationary unused for 3 days, then a crack appeared. Samsung is being less than helpful. Now I have a $1800 paperweight.

I really like this monitor once you get it setup and running. I have a very high end video card so I was excited to be able to get one for the review. The display and responsive is great. It looks crisp and the size has grown on me. I had no problems getting it to work out of the box with an HDMI cord as that was the default. I did have a time to get it run at the correct specs with a display port cable. I actually could not get the included cable to work until I had it working with another known good cable and then the cable started working as expected. It would be nice to be able to control it from the PC but otherwise the controls seem to work. It does seem a little wide as you have to turn your head to use the edges. This makes it more effort for a productivity device. I did not like how the device driver install forced me to choose the type of connector I wanted to use and would not let me choose both types of cables. Someone spends 2k plus on monitor you expect it to just work and be extremely user friendly. The screen is wide enough that it will require some tweeking for most games but otherwise it is a great gaming monitor and a for sure conversation piece. Unless money is no object I would say maybe I would think this would be better at least 500 to 750 cheaper in cost. The setup from a physical standpoint was okay. It is a little big and as such I did need an extra hand for part of the unboxing.

This is my first ultrawide monitor and oh boy! So this thing is slick, its is the largest monitor I have ever owned and I could never go back. So out of the box its really easy to assemble the monitor to the stand. takes only a couple of minutes. On the back of the device, you get a built in RGB ring that just adds to the looks of this device. It can be disabled if that's not for you At 5120 x 1440 @ 240hz this display looks amazing. It's basically two smaller screens fused together for one giant immersive monitor. The detail on the screen is fantastic. With its 32:9 aspect ratio, you get a whole lot of room and viewing area in your games. When it comes to brightness, this will melt your eyes! but seriously it is the brightest monitor I've ever used, and that's great for HDR content which also shines on this monitor. Ports Included on the monitor: 2x HDMI 2.1 2x USB 3.0 1x DisplayPort. PC USB. Power out. 3.5mm The HDMI 2.1 allows 120hz gameplay and this monitor has a neat PiP feature that allows you to run to devices at once, like my Xbox and PC, or PC and Xbox etc, really is a great idea and makes productivity much quicker. Overall i love this monitor, its runs fantastic with excellent details on the screen, no flickers or anything at all. If you're looking for the ultimate widescreen setup for gaming then you cant go wrong with this beast

To think for all these years i had to deal with mounts and 4 15.9 in monitors. I never knew such a thing as a 49 in CURVED monitor(bigger than my tv!) at such a cheap price ($1700) i can now do spreadsheets and type documents with a curve. This is life changing. What will they come up with next?!

1050Nits, HDR but not HDR. Quality Control issues

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

When it works, AMAZING. You have to not be afraid to adjust/tinker however, to get the screen to work correctly. Some of the reviews you are reading are people who buy a high end monitor and didn't read what they're getting, or don't know how to adjust the settings to reach 240hz HDR. HOWEVER, the are REAL problems with the monitor. I had to get my monitor REPLACED, because there was a faulty back lighting that resulted in occasional flickering back down the middle of the screen. This is a Q&A issue. When customers are spending this amount of money, this is a slap in the face. We TRUSTED that the quality and reliability would be high end, had to get the monitor replaced. The new monitor that came in screen was flawless, however, the USB port one of them does not work. Instead of shipping back and forth, I'll take a working screen with a faulty USB port. Just very disappointing at the Q&A from Samsung, unlike the experience I have with their TV. You can see the video I submitted that clearly shows the faulty back lighting. Few things to keep in mind, 4K 240hz only works in Display port. Display port is NOT 2.0 (read the specs), and HDMI 2.1 for PS5/Xbox is ok, but the performance is not as stellar than using this as a PC Monitor. KVM/PIP, you'll run into issues, and 4k/hdr issues, as it just plainly does not play nice. And as many of pointed out, when you go to Windows 11 and look at the spec, it will say 1000Nits, you can run tests you will get approximately 1050nits, I'm not sure where they are getting 2000 nits from. Also in Windows 11, it will say HDR enabled, but if you go to ADVANCED properties, and look under specs, it will say NOT HDR Certified, but games will be playing in HDR. Just something to look further into, and be prepared for.

For a real immersive gaming experience

This monitor defines the word Immersive with a complete range of experiences and brings it to a different meaning. Let’s start that this monitor is made and delivers its best for gaming but I also explored the possibility of using it as my display for work when the gamer is at school. While obvious, it’s important to mention that a 49 inches curved monitor is packed in a big size card box with plenty of inside protection. Special home delivery or a pickup in-store with a spacious car trunk is a must. To open the box strongly recommend following the instructions, securely installing the stand (a screwdriver is needed). Immediately after that, connect the wires that you plan to use: for connectivity see that two HDMI ports and two USBs are available. Once standing, the access from behind is obviously more complicated. Turning on and connected to the laptop, the full power of the curved monitor and the 49 inc size is noticeable. Probably you will require to change the display settings but once the new setup is done and this monitor will deliver full 5120 x 1440 resolution to your action games. By doing some math, this is placing two 2560 x 1440 displays together. All my tests are with PC games (already in Windows 11) and while the natural curve nature is awesome for flight simulators or car racing games the experience with native HDR display is out of this world. My favorite Doom Eternal. Gaming in a monitor of this size with a full 240 Hz refresh rate (my home TVs are in the 60-120hz ranges) can not be described it needs to be experienced. The syncing tech in the monitor also serves for speeding the connection between the computer game's frame and the screen. Here, I need to acknowledge also that the Samsung crew has been working hard in the last times because previous reviews are complaining about the HDR and my experience is amazing. Because at home we are not professional gamers, and I need to justify the investment outside gaming, I multitasked the monitor to some basic office functionalities, and is great. Having full display and multiwindow apps makes my excel work a lot simpler. I know that is not the primary use for the monitor but is good to have. However, some limits here in a so high-end (and price) monitor some basic peripherals are missing: camera, mic, and speakers. Final comment, that was a concern of mine at first, if you think that a 49 inches monitor is too big for your space, consider that the stand fits in a 30 inches desk. While the monitor will exceed the borders, it's absolutely perfect and steady. Globally, an amazing experience and a must equipment for a gamer.

    Dead pixels at $2500?

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Ended up getting my unit with multiple dead pixels, one was even smack dead in the center of the screen. This really is a beautiful monitor, but please Samsung. Even one dead pixel on a monitor at this price is absolutely unacceptable. I sent mine back to best buy awaiting an exchange. Haven't gotten any update yet. I'm hoping to hear back from best buy soon. If anyone thats considering this monitor, should you get one without defects in it. Its definitely a keeper.

Get an 8k display port cable and it works fine

I’ve had the same issues and many who give poor reviews and post pics of problems, but that’s only when paired with a bad cable or one that isn’t intended to work at 240hz at 5120x1440. You also should pair with the latest nVidia or AMD series cards to drive it appropriately. Good luck to everyone and watch also for firmware updates!

If you're looking for the ultimate gaming/computer screen, look no further. This is the top of the line newest and greatest screen you can get your gamer hands on. This screen is absolutely massive. I recommend two people to take it out of the box. It's also loaded with ports 2 HDMI 2.1 ports 2 USB 3.0 ports 1 display port PC USB port 3.5mm headphone jack Once set up, this screen has a lot of rotation for the perfect angle, but i would like a little more tilt than what is allowed. I don't know why anyone would need this much rotation with a giant curved screen. I have never laid eyes on a more crisp and clear screen in my life. Lucky for me I just upgraded my video card on my PC so I am getting the best experience possible. I'm more into FPS games than anything else. Call of duty was a whole new experience playing with this screen. I have to admit, going from my non-curved 30 inch screen to this, I was a little sea sick first playing it. I had to take a few breaks but once i got the hang of it, IT WAS AWESOME! If you have the money to spend, spend it on this screen. If you are like most people in the world, you probably don't need this screen and there are plenty of other more cost friendly options out there to grab. There are lots of amazing gaming screens out there that cost way less than this one.

    Unavoidable Fisheye Effect in Games

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

A bit glitchy, in that there are graphical stutters periodically and it regularly loses contact with the samsung software. I've also had the monitor crash completely a few times. The main problem, however, is that in games, there's pretty serious fisheye that you can't do anything about apparently. Something to do with the height vs the width. Even with the game set to the correct resolution and aspect ratio, there was a serious fisheye effect. The answer on reddit is pretty much this is just how it is and we'll get used to it. The worst part is, I tried to listen to that. No. I'm not paying this much for a gaming monitor that distorts the whole point of buying the thing. If you're not gaming, it's a fine monitor. If you are gaming, maybe look somewhere else.

I own two, 49 inch versions of this monitor. They work great within Windows. If used in an Apple environment, while using DP1.4 to Thunderbolt, one will probably have an issue. I have been trying to use the monitor with my Macbook Pro for approximately the last 8 months, to no avail. I have even received a call from Apple engineering, asking me questions as to what issues I am having. Essentially, it would appear that Apple has not answer to make the monitor work with their ecosystem.

The price is extreme but if you can get it on a good sale it is 100% worth it. Definitely the best performing display I have ever owned. That being said, out of the box the monitor didn't look right and I had to spend a few hours fiddling with the settings to get it running well in HDR at 240hz

Got this right after thanksgiving. Updated to the latest firmware, 5 days after I got this I noticed the screen would go black and come back on with g-sync enabled. Then I noticed flickering in the background light in games like forza horizon 4, and Cyberpunk 2077. On 240hz mode I noticed my 3090 memory clock wouldn’t clock down on desktop. I returned this thing and if you have similar problems I’d suggest you do the same. Samsung you need better QC. Shame on you
