Customers are saying
Customers regard the Odyssey Gaming CRG5 Series monitor highly for its excellent picture quality, impressive refresh rate, and pleasing curvature. Many appreciate the monitor's value for its price and the ease of setup. However, some customers point out the lack of integrated speakers and limitations with the stand's adjustability as drawbacks. The absence of standard mounting holes was also a common criticism.

Passable but Not Amazing with some Flaws.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm coming up to my 3 year anniversary of having this monitor. In the beginning I had a dual monitor setup with this and some random Dell monitor from like 2007, but I liked this monitor so much, and the price was so low that I got a matching pair. So I've been using two of this exact monitor for 3 to 14 hours a day depending on my current workloads and gaming sessions put together, for 3 years now. To put it bluntly - I have used this monitor A LOT. The 4ms response time is very good for entry level gaming. Obviously it's not as good as the more higher end gamer-tailored 1 or 2ms response times, but it's good enough for a beginner and for lower end and non-competitive games. Single player games or games with much slower paced gameplay. So for example, fine for games like Borderlands, Monster Hunter, or GTA but probably not ideal for games where literal split-second inputs can decide the outcome of a match like CS:GO or DOTA. Obviously the higher ranks you get into, the more it matters, but if you're a casual or beginner player for these types of games, it probably doesn't matter nearly as much as I'm letting on. It's still a solid monitor especially for the price. The 144mhz is quite a massive step up from my prior monitors, and is great for gaming. 144mhz is easily the baseline for what you should expect from any monitor for playing current games and for the price this monitor definitely delivers, but again - baseline and entry level. It hits the bare minimum but that's as far as it goes. For the price (when on sale) I can't argue. Playing Halo and Borderlands on my previous stock 720p 60mhz Dell monitor and then changing to this monitor and playing at 1440p 144mhz was complete night and day, but that's admittedly more about the increase in quality and mhz rate itself and not the actual monitor itself so I guess that's not super helpful lol. The size and sharpness is pretty good overall, but as others have mentioned in their reviews, sometimes text on screen can seem a little murky or blurry. I find this to be a webpage based issue most of the time, because the vast majority of the time for me it's not really an issue. Tired eyes also play a part - anybody who works at a computer for a living knows that an 8 hour day in front of the screen makes everything run together after a certain point regardless of what you've been looking at. But I don't want to undermine the other reviews either because my frequent webpage usage is ultimately pretty narrow. I use the same apps, games and websites a lot so I just might not be encountering the same things. It could be an issue, it could be a non-issue, it could just be with a certain game or website that someone else uses which I don't, I can't say with 100% certainty. I think 24" is a great size for gaming and hits a good sweet spot, small enough to be a viable option for a dual monitor setup if you have the space, but big enough to be able to see everything going on around the game at once if you only have one. Obviously the size doesn't matter that much for work usage since I and many others could do our jobs on a 12 inch CRT monitor if we really had to. The base of the monitor pokes out quite far in every direction. I understand it's necessary to be like this in order to keep it balanced, but I really do wish they had been able to cut about an inch and a half off of the length of the part that lays behind the monitor itself. I'm no engineer so I don't know how hard it would have been, but it seems like it takes up a little more desk space than it needs to. It also has no mounting screw holes, so unless you have one of those mounting clamps that holds it by the edges instead of screwing into the back, you will not be able to mount it. It doesn't bother me that much since a monitor mounting arm would get in the way of my workspace far more than the extra inch and a half that the base takes up, but I thought it was worth noting. The button navigation on the back is a little frustrating to use at times. I understand the sleek and simplifying aesthetic that most technology is headed towards, but I would much rather have 4 or 5 buttons instead of this bizarre control-stick style button knob. You tilt the knob up and down to browse options on each menu, but every quadrant of the knob has a different button assigned to it. Many times while trying to navigate I would accidentally click one of the buttons on the quadrant and it would send me to a different menu or I might push the power button since it's in the dead center, which is mostly how you navigate up and down with. I ultimately got it to work and got my colors to a point that I'm content with, but I feel like it doesn't need to be this complicated and silly. Definitely recommend you get the monitor settings set up at an open space on a table or counter before you put it into your workspace so you have easy access. Now, for the con. I don't have a lot of bad things to say about this monitor, as it has treated me very well over these past few years, and the paragraph above is probably more of a nitpick than anything. But one issue is quite a glaring issue that needs to be addressed. My left monitor, the one I purchased first, has had 0 issues in its lifespan so far. But the right monitor that I purchased a few months later has a weird issue with the screen. Whenever I turn my computer off for the night, or if I leave that monitor off for a while for whatever reason, upon turning it back on, the right monitor has a lot of problems starting up. It goes into this weird state where it is trying to display things from my desktop, but it has a slow "light show" happening around all the edges with a blurry black screen all the way around. As the monitor begins to get warmed up this issue changes into having vertical rainbow colored lines all the way across. Eventually it starts to ramp up and begin to function 100% properly, but this is definitely an issue worth taking note of because it takes anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour before it acts like a normal monitor again. I don't know if maybe someone dropped this one in the store by accident before I picked it up but I do know it should not be doing this. I didn't do anything to rectify or fix it in the beginning because I had missed the Best Buy return date, and as I was researching into the Samsung return policy, the monitor came back to life and seemed fine. Despite being a huge red flag, I didn't think much of it at the time, I was just happy that my "broken" monitor fixed itself so I counted my blessings, since at the time I would not be able to afford a replacement, and going from having a two monitor setup for so long back to only one monitor is like learning how to walk again. Not impossible, but it really is one of those things where you don't know what you've got until it's gone. Now the visual bug happens every time I turn my system off for a prolonged period. I did some research on the topic over the last few months and found out that it's a somewhat common issue with Samsung monitors in general. My issue in particular is apparently based on heat, which makes sense considering that a 30 second reboot doesn't invoke the problem, but leaving it off for 8 hours a night does. The other issue that it could be is a bad video cable, or a bad port on the monitor itself, both of which I've ruled out by trying 3 different HDMI cables and 2 different DisplayPort cables. Apparently you can speed up the display bug's "recovery" process by using a blow dryer on it, but let's be honest, I'm not gonna do that and neither are you lol. I would take some photos to really demonstrate what I'm talking about but my workstation is really dirty and I would just embarrass myself. As I said, ultimately it's not a bad monitor. But looking at some of the other reviews, the display bug issue I went into is something you need to be aware of. One of my monitors has never had the issue and it's been an incredible deal for the $150 I paid for it, but the one with the issue definitely makes me wish I had done something with the return process sooner. It's more of an inconvenience than anything since it does still work, but being locked out of 1 of my monitors for 30+ minutes every morning does rub me the wrong way a lot of days considering my other monitor, which is the exact same make and model, has never had any problem. I would recommend this item, but only if you be mindful and make sure yours isn't weird like one of mine. I give it 4 stars for value. If both worked 100% as intended 100% of the time I would give it 5 stars.

Another Defective Samsung Display
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Backlight bleeding, and the right edge of the display was slighlty darker than the rest in places. Samsung displays are going downhill. I bought 3 Samsung TVs (all the same model) and all three had to be returned for defects with pixels. I dont know if its even possible to get a good Samsung TV or monitor anymore. I am teturning this because I got an LG that worked perfectly right out of the box. Save yourself a headache and get an LG.
