I have three Samsung players of this type: a K8500, an M7500, and the one reviewed here, the M8500. All three perform identically and are styled identically, although the remote control of the K series unit is different from that for the M series. Both remotes are a bit problematical, but once you get the hang they do fine. The difference between the M8500 and M7500 involve the internet link: the M8500 uses WiFi; the M7500 requires an Ethernet cable. Other than that, they are basically the same player with the same fine performance and the same remote, which is superficially similar to that for my Samsung TV. The K8500 also uses WiFi, and it is actually blessed with three features the other two do not have: 3D playback (a format that appears to be heading towards defunctness), a little blue panel light that flickers when any of the control buttons on the front panel are pressed, and a second HDMI outlet on the back panel for audio-only use (another almost useless feature). The M series lacks the blue light and extra jack. The K8500, Samsung's first 4K player was actually a more "deluxe" player than the other two, but that deluxeness is inconsequential. All three have performance qualities that are the same. None of them have any glitches. All are quiet, respond to commands nicely, and all deliver identical picture quality, which is very good quality. All do a good job with 1080p and regular DVD materials, too. The attached photos show the three units stacked on top of my equipment cabinet, plus a shot of the front wall. This system is a 7.1.4 arrangement, with home-built speakers (I reviewed audio components and wrote articles for audio magazines for years and know how to build speakers), Pioneer receiver, and home-built cylinder subwoofers powered by a Crown stereo amp. A small outboard amp powers the additional speakers for the Atmos arrangement, and a Hsu Optimizer equalizes the subs to 18 Hz. This is a rig that demands a good video player, and in this case it has three of them. The small TV is for programming my wife's cable recorder. Unfortunately, Samsung has gotten out of the business of making players of any kind. (Even the luxury outfit Oppo has given it up.) I find this to be unfortunate, and even a bit mysterious, given that other outfits are still making players, but I suppose that today's generation is more than happy to just stream movies. The player can do that, but, being a rather elderly fan, I am a disc guy, myself. (Note the discs in the bookcases behind the speakers.) Anyway, this is a fine player. If you are a disc freak like me, get one of any of the above-noted models before they are gone.

This 4K Blu-Ray player is quite good. The picture quality is great when watching 4K Blu-Rays but also when using the Smart Functions on the Blu-Ray Player. The operating system on this device is very smooth and works great. One small complaint is that the web browser is almost un-usable because of how touchy the on screen cursor is. The big complaint that gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that there is only a very small selection of apps installed on this Blu-Ray player and you can only download a select few more. You get Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video, Youtube, Google Play Movies, and the Web Browser. You can download a few more such as Vudu, Spotify, UFC, iHeartRadio,YuppTV, Pandora, and Fandago Now. This would be a perfect Blu-Ray Player if it had a better selection of apps. Still great for disks though.

I bought this 4K player primarily because I wanted to also use the apps such as Plex for streaming. It not only plays 4K Blu-Ray discs perfectly but it streams my 4K media from my Plex server with ease. This is an excellent 4K player from Samsung!

this blu-ray player is very easy to set up and use right out of the box, it's exactly like every other blu-ray player in this regard, but there are a few things you need to know before you buy. you may need need a new HDMI cable for this blu-ray player to carry your 4k and/or HDR signal, but probably not. for the record, there is no such thing as an HDMI 1.0 or 2.0 or 2.1 cable, only the connections have version numbers. You basically have high speed or standard speed HDMI with or without ethernet. So chances are your regular old cable will work just fine, don't let them upsell you on some overpriced cable that will do the same thing as the 3 dollar cable. If you need a new one get the cheapest one you can. anyway, performance of this unit seems good. It displays 4k HDR content on my television flawlessly. Keep in mind that this is a samsung product and they have produced their own HDR standards (HDR10 and HDR10+) so I'm guessing that this won't display Dolby Vision HDR though I cannot find any documentation that confirms this. discs load faster than they did on my old samsung blu-ray player even with java heavy interfaces which is nice. I don't particularly like the interface though. Powering on the unit presents you with a square in the center of your screen, if there is a disc in the tray clicking on this will play it otherwise it'll take you into the settings for the blu-ray player itself. It's a little bit of oversimplification that looks quite nice, but just feels ... I don't know. Weird or something. The remote itself is quite simply designed as well, which I love. i don't need a number pad and dedicated buttons for multiple streaming services. I wish more manufacturers would take note and mimic sammy on this. regular 1080p blu-rays look good on here as well, the scaler that upconverts the image to 4k seems like it's doing a decent job. it's hard to tell really since a 1080p blu-ray source is already very high fidelity. I can't comment on regular dvds because I can't watch them anymore, they make my eyes barf. The build quality feels a little bit cheap on this unit, the disc tray in particular feels flimsy. If you have children or pets that are prone to technology mishaps maybe consider going with something else or placing this somewhere they'll find hard to reach. I'm not in love with the way this player looks either. I prefer a standard matte black industrial design without curves or other embellishments, but this is mostly hidden on a shelf anyway. One last thing, every disc I've played on this has worked flawlessly except for one. The Spider-Man Homecoming 4k Blu-Ray plays just fine, but there's a horizontal bar on the bottom of the screen that I can't get rid of. As far as I can tell it's not a tv problem, but has something to do with the way the disc and player are interacting. I've tested a dozen or so other discs and can't replicate this problem, nor can I find anyone else online who has experienced this. Figured I'd mention it here. And for the record, the Westworld Season 1 4k set is the best thing I've ever seen with my eyeballs. The image is absolutely stunning. So final thoughts? I'd buy this again, I'd recommend it to just about anybody, and considering that the only difference between this model and the step up version that costs twice as much from samsung is the absence of a second HDMI port. Get this one. It's good.

I bought this as a replacement for my Samsung Blue Ray player, which I also enjoyed but wanted the extra clarity of 4K. The unit works well but is noisy as the disc is loading and prepping to play, but that noise stops as the movie starts. The setup is simple and fast, especially when paired with a Samsung 4K TV, which I have. Good sync with the TV and has a quality picture. Overall a good experience so far.

After my expensive Sony crapped out, I decided to try Samsung. Besides giving most everything i run thru it a better image, it operates quite smoothly with the easy to use remote. It has a nice selection of built in apps and it plays everything from old dvd's to 4k Ultra discs.

Picture is gorgeous. 4k and HDR are beautiful, I have a pretty 'mid-range' 4k tv, so it doesn't pop as much as it would on a $2500+ set... but I can still see a difference between this and regular Blu-ray. I had some trouble getting the sound output settings right using optical digital out, and the manual is so thin I had to search the net (not Samsung's site) for answers, eventually figured it out but the confusion was minorly irritating. It's workign great now and so far I'm very happy with it.

This player displays 4k movies to perfection. In addition it will upscale blu ray and dvd formats with amazing clarity. Frankly when it upscales a blu ray, it really looks likes its 4k. Easy to use as well.

Since the last DVD player I bought was the Toshiba HD DVD, it was time to upgrade. We love our Samsung UHD TV, so this player seemed like the best choice. It plays nice with the TV, and it would be a great option for turning a non-smart TV into a Smart TV without replacing the whole TV. Make sure you select the right one - wireless (& smart) or wired - for your needs. The sales rep said I didn't need the wireless version since I already had a smart TV, but you have to connect to the internet to set up the system, so we had to go back and exchange. We didn't need the smart bundle, but it's nice to have & we can move it to a different TV whenever we want.

Excellent 4k Player. Lots of APPS you can add for streaming. I bought this primarily to be able to get DTS sound from blu-rays since SONOS sytems still cannot process DTS sound (AT ALL!!) . Easy to set up. Easier to use. (The remote should be - 1/2 star as hit's impossible to use in the dark -- no back lighting, very little tactile cues.

I recently purchased a 55Q7F Samsung TV and needed to upgrade from my 3D Blu-Ray Player to a 4K Blu-Ray player. One of the best things about this one is that it has one of the new samsung remotes and is easily controlled by the Samsung OneRemote that came with my TV! I also really like that the blu-ray player is ribbed so it shows less wear and tear, scratches, and fingerprints.
