Works great but why no power light?

My only complaint is why this thing doesn't have a power light as you con't tell by looking at it if it is on or not. Great features, easy to use and the price can not be beat!

Mostly got this to have a second Blu-ray in another part of the house. It works great, easy to set up, and I thought was very reasonably priced at time of purchase.

I love all the extras you get with the Samsung Blue Ray. It even enhances the appearance of the screen. I have a plasma and the picture quality is great!!

The ease of set up was great. I have never been able to view internet content like this before. It lets my unsmart TV be smart. It is easy to use and update when needed.

    Good basic DVD player

We had a Sony DVD player that still worked, but wanted to get Netflix on a non-Smart TV in the garage. Buying a new DVD player with wifi was one of the options. The Best Buy sales person recommended the Samsung player over another Sony. The set up was simple and when the device is turned on, it opens with one screen that has everything that is needed to play a DVD or connect to the internet program of choice. The remote, on the other hand, took me an hour to figure out. There is no light on the device to let you know it's on - and it doesn't come on instantly. I found that after pushing the power button on the remote I have to count to 5 before there is any change on the screen. The keys on the remote are small and my husband has trouble moving through the on-screen options to move from Play DVD to Netflix. There is no open/close door button on the remote - you have to do that from the device itself - which is OK because you have to go there anyway to load/remove a disc - but the unit is very light and pushing the open button slides it to the back of the shelf. I ended up putting a piece of velcro on the bottom to keep it in place. But as a DVD player it seems to work fine.

We got this Blue-ray player to turn our TV to a smartTV. It works well. We love watching youtube videos on the "big screen."

    Solid player, app store lacking

Blu-ray This player loads blu-ray discs fast and plays well. Remote The remote is powerful and easy to use. Vudu/Netflix Using Google Fiber, the apps load quickly and have no troubles playing movies, though one time my machine froze up. I had to unplug the player for at least 5 seconds. Once I did that and plugged back in, it worked normally again. App Store The app store frankly reminds me of the early days of Roku. All the apps are just weird, outside the popular Vudu/Netflix/Spotify/YouTube. Would be nice to see apps like MLB.tv, Sling, and some actual cable channels' apps appear in the store.

You are getting what you pay for the unit works but is a little slow. I have also had issues at times with the wifi. To be honest though my biggest complaint is there is no light on the box to tell you when the unit is on. Overall though for the price it works as expected.

After reading the reviews, it sounded like the best player for the money. It was a simple to install and set up, even the wireless was easy. The only I don't like it the screen for the streaming apps, its a bit confusing at first and not user friendly.

I'm giving this 4 rather than 5 stars because I'm reviewing before having it for 60+ days. To get a 5 from me, the product has to last. For the price I paid ($80), this is a good DVD player. It streams well, it was easy to hook up and plays well.

This was a present for my nephew. He loves it and so do I, it keeps him busy which makes me happy and he gets to watch movies in his room which makes him happy. This is a great Blu-ray player and connects easily to Wifi. Only draw back is my nephew is now quoting little rascals like every ten minutes...still a good product.

Easy to use but fails to integrate a web browser and power on/off indication light. Other than that not a bad product.

Will Not Stream Certain MKV or MP4 Files

    Posted .

I had originally purchased 3 of the previous version of this Blu-ray player and "sprinkled" them throughout the house a few years ago. One of them finally died so I bought this one, the updated version. When I connected it to my movie collection that I stream from my home network it would not play certain movies ... mainly some MKV files and MP4 files that the old model played just fine. I cannot believe that Samsung would remove playable content on an updated model but it appears they did. I made sure the software on the new Samsung was up to date ... connections were correct ... etc ... but no luck. AVI and WMV files would play just fine. So I returned the product back to Best Buy. I ended up buying the 3D version of this Blu-ray player and it must still have the old software because it plays all the videos just fine. These players will STILL not play the new HEVC files, which is the up and coming conversion (smaller file size with better video). Samsung needs to update their software on their Blu-ray players. By the way, the files play just fine streaming to my Samsung WiFi TVs which I am slowly changing throughout the house.

A simple piece of equipment that, for short money, has turned my old flat panel TV into a Smart TV! Connections were Simple, directions Complete. For the price, it can't be beat. It's not a Tech wonder but it provides the simple internet access to streaming simply and without frills.

Would Not Connect to My Building WIFI

All went well with the physical installation and the DVD player was impressive. However, when attempting to connect to my building's newly installed WIFI, it found the network which I selected and, when entering my password, the connection screen appeared and the machine froze. It would accept no inputs and had to be forced off with the power button. This experience was repeated 4 times. I have successfully connected 5 other devices to the new WIFI with no problems. I connected the Samsung J5700 to another network with no problems. The machine was exchanged for another which did the same thing.

Good Blu-Ray player for the price

I purchased this for my parents, who are not very tech savvy. It was easy to install but initially it did not want to connect to Wi-Fi. It took several power offs and an unplug of the power cord to get the connection setup but it finally began to work. The Samsung menu on startup is fast and easy to understand and movies play great and the Blu-Ray menu loads quickly. The only thing I don't like about this player is that when I tried to go to the app store it gave an error and stated this player did not have access to the app store. That's not too terrible since it comes with Netflix and VUDU but it would have been nice to add a few apps, such as PLEX.

    Love it

Had a Samsung Ethernet Bd player that we loved but gave up to by a cheaper Phillips Wifi player. Didn't like the Phillips and the tray stopped opening so went back to Samsung Wifi and love it. Love the smart features. Remote works well. Just recently on Netflix it has frozen twice and had to be restarted by holdingit he power button. Still have plenty of Geek Squard protection on is though!
