Not a good Blu Ray Player

Do not waste your time on purchasing this Blu-Ray player. I've had nothing but problems with it since I purchased 11/15. When it did work (which I can count on one hand), it worked fine. I called Samsung and my Internet provider to see why this was only thing in my house that wouldn't connect to the internet and I received the blame game. Buy another brand. I love Samsung, just not this particular product.

    Don't buy this for streaming

Does not reliably connect to WIFI network. Also quite buggy. As others have noted, it is prone to freezing and randomly turning off, regularly requiring a reboot. I have two of these. Same issues with both. I have regularly done software updates without improvement. Finally went to a Roku Stick for stredaming, which works flawlessly and offers a lot more content.

Disc tray hums and you can't find the buttons

There were no reviews when I bought this player. I strayed from Sony and tried it, I guess based on feature descriptions. Oops. This Samsung blu-ray BD-J5700 has 2 major flaws which led to my returning it after 2 weeks for a Sony BDP-S3700. Much better. First, the Samsung's disc tray vibrates noisily with a disc inserted and loaded; very very distracting while trying to watch a movie! Second,The Samsung''s front has a "sexy modern" slick grill design that looks cool until you need to actually use it. The Eject/Load & Power buttons are small and unlit. I could not locate them at night in the dark. I am used to my old Sony, whose buttons are lit. In the end I could have lived with the lame device front. And I liked the newer, better Netflix app. But the cheap rattling disc tray killed it. I returned this Samsung and was happy to find the new Sony's tray worked quietly, it's buttons are easy to find and use in the dark, and it also has the latest Netflix app. For blu-ray players, I'll stick to Sony!

Best Buy Claims That It Works When It Doesn't!

    Posted .

Best Buy said in many replies to reviews from people that the player will work right if we do the update. This is false! It makes things worse. Here's what happened to me. Me and the hubby bought this as a Christmas present for my parents. I wanted them to have access to apps like Hulu and Netflix. It was the main reason why I bought the player second being the price was good. When we first booted it up the internet was working fine. When we did the update, now we don't have internet access at all and the Apps don't work because of this. So now we have a broken Blu-ray player that Best Buy claims that it works with the update. Now we are forced to return the piece of junk. Best Buy shouldn't be claiming anything about this product. There are reasons why people gave this player bad reviews. All of the bad reviews are related to the internet not working and the Apps not working. The update makes things even more worse as updating can corrupt the player.

complete piece of junk. Remote can power down unit, but not power up. Wi-Fi sets up correctly and connects, but unit hangs when trying to access any online service (Netflix, Amazon). Tried to update software and it froze. Had it less than 3 hours. complete lemon.

    DO NOT BUY!!!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! This blu ray player will randomly shut off in the middle of watching and reboot to the home screen within only 6 months of owning! It does this at random and once it starts, it will do it over and over until you just stop trying all together. Tried to get the issue repaired/resolved for 4 months with Samsung, and all they can do is say that their technicians cannot duplicate the issue, so they will not do anything to try to help. We have used other devices to watch (like Xbox one) and have never had this issue with anything other than this Samsung blu ray player. I will be throwing this blu ray player away and having to spend more money to buy a new one (so sad, because it is so wasteful...). At least buy one from a company that will resolve/repair issues...or fork over the extra cash for Best Buy's warranty because you surely will need it for this one!

    Worst player ever. Super glitchy!

I bought this on Black Friday and watched a disc the next day, it worked fine. The 2nd time the disc tray would not open. I tried using the eject button from the remote control and pressing the button on the player, no luck. I had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to work. A couple of weeks later it stopped recognizing that there was a disc in the tray. I tried various discs and none of them would work. I double checked to make sure I had the latest update, I did, so that wasn't the issue. Again I had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to work. Last night I tried to watch a disc and it stopped twice during a 2 hour movie. I had to restart the movie and go through the chapters to find where it left off. Quite frankly I'm surprised by the positive reviews. Samsung makes excellent televisions so I thought this purchase was a no-brainer. I can't believe Samsung would sell something so glitchy!

    Bought it - Returned it

It was semi-dead-on-arrival. In order to power it on, you first had to unplug the HDMI cable, and plug it back in. Then press Power either on the device or the remote. No other way. Then, when watching streaming content (Netflix or YouTube) it stopped after about a half hour and would buffer for at least 5 minutes. After a few times of this re-buffering it finally froze and did nothing and we had to pull the power plug. This scenario happened several times. Returned it for refund. Read reviews carefully as many players have a similar freezing problem. We have plenty of internet bandwidth - 100meg, so that's not the issue. Also tablet, phone, and computer can stream without issues, even 2 phones and the computer simultaneously. I'm not sure what I'm going to do next. Probably Roku.....

Not worth it - won't stream properly

Got this to stream YouTube and Netflix as well as play blu- ray disks. Does not seem to have the processing power to stream properly. YouTube videos will only play for 2 min max before buffering and locking up. Does not support Plex at all. Returning this and getting something else.

    Big Disapointment

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this blu ray player obviously hoping for the best but, I was disappointed. After only 2 months of using the player for watching Netflix it all of a sudden the wifi stopped working through the blu ray player. I tried to connect several times and I tried all the tricks to get it working and it never did. I was hopeful to get some help through Samsung to get it fixed because it was on warranty. My hope was dashed after 2 1/2 hrs.on the phone of doing the same tricks and them blaming my internet provider. They finally told me to send it to them then 2 weeks later it came back I tried again and didn't work. So all it's good for now is for watching a movie. I will never buy Samsung again due to poor product (my brother has had the same luck with them) and poor customer service. I think the one star rating is pretty generous.

    Samsung Flop

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this Blu Ray player a year ago. It was slow to connect to the internet, froze often, had issues interfacing with Netflix and Hulu, and (the "best" part of the experience)...it stopped working after a year. Like, it stopped working a year to the day I purchased it. And the machine only got mild to moderate use throughout that time. I called Samsung support and they gave be the bull about it being out of warranty. In turn, after my continued, relentless pestering, they finally agreed to give me a "one time" warranty extension so I didn't have to pay for this faulty product. A note to potential consumers: google the model number. Read the blogs and forums. The problems exist and are prevalent. Like Samsung, their products are not measuring up. Save your hard earned money for a better product. DO NOT BUY THIS.

    Wouldn't Stay Connected to Wi-Fi

Wouldn't connect to my wi-fi router unless it was in the same room & wouldn't stay connected, even though my notebook will connect at my neighbor's house. Thanks to Best Buy's return policy I returned it & got a Sony which worked perfectly; worth the slightly higher price & much more compact.

    Save your money

I purchased this online during black Friday. Once I received it, I attempted to hook it up. The key word is "attempted." Nothing I did resulted in a connection to my wireless network. My household consists of two smartphones, an iPod Touch, Kindle, Vizio smart TV and a laptop. NONE of these have an issue with our wireless. Three chats with support, software upgrade via USB and numerous times unplugging and resetting later, (oh, and a new router from my ISP) no wireless joy. I am returning it to Best Buy and looking for a NON-Samsung player. Save yourself the time and hassle. Don't believe the high reviews. Research before you buy. I found numerous forums where people were expressing the same issue as I had.

We played one movie in it and it kept skipping. So we tried another movie and it did the same. Took it back the next day and was told the laser may have been "off". We opted to go with the brand we've used for years and left Samsung behind.

    Locks up after auto update

We decided to go with the Samsung Blue-Ray instead of Sony upon the advice of the sales person assisting us. We got home, hooked up the unit and were able to connect to our Wi-fi. A little later the unit did a software update automatically after which we could no longer connect to our Wi-fi. We did some research online and found that the same issue had been experienced by others with no known fix. Since we use the Blue-Ray to stream Netflix and Amazon it was no use to use, so we returned the unit and got a Sony instead.

    no internet connection

I'm not good with computers and the internet but I did manage to get this DVD player connected to my network and spend an enjoyable evening of watching Amazon. Unfortunately, that was the only time this player connected to my network. I followed the same procedure I used before (from the manual) to connect to my network many times but still no connection. I prefer the features on my old DVD player and will disconnect this one. Don't waste your money unless you feel like wasting a lot of time trying to connect to the net. I guess some may feel this is better than watching net offerings but I don't need the aggravation.

    Hit or Miss

So my daughter's previous Blu-ray player quit working and we bought this model. It worked perfectly for the last five months. For Christmas we decided to buy our son one as well. This one will not connect to our WiFi or will connect but then disconnect. I have tried all the suggestions from Samsung including trying the device within 15 ft from the wireless router with no luck. Thankfully I can still return to the store and exchange. I looked online and apparently there are a lot of people with the same issue. Very disappointed.

    Worked fine...for a while

Purchased after Christmas 2015. Worked OK. Not the easiest navigation, but did what it was supposed to. In July 2017, device began downloading software update. Player froze during update, then would not turn on afterwards. Went through every troublehshooting steps with Samsung. No luck. Their solution: Pay to have it fixed. Really? That would cost more than a new one. It was their update that caused the problem. Tossed it and went back to my 10-year-old Panasonic, which doesn't have wifi but at least works.
