This external USD drive is excellent to serve as a backup device with Time Machine in MacOS. It's incredibly fast and backed up 320MB of data in about 15 minutes! Subsequent backups are equally fast. The only problem with it is that it's gone up about 100% in the last year. Sure wish I'd bought one last year.

MUST Buy if you have a slow iMac!!

What a great decision!! I was planning to trade in our Mid-2015 iMac 27" 5k as it was running SLOW...almost unusably slow to be honest. I wasn't sure what to do, then I read some online suggestions that going to an external (changing the HDD on an iMac is nightmare inducing) SSD drive. I did some research and settled on the Samsung T7 (warranty is less than the 5yr competitors however). After properly formatting the drive for a Mac bootable drive, and then cloning the internal hard drive, I started up the iMac...and OH MY GOODNESS!!! The iMac NEVER ran this fast...it is crazy what a difference this made (using the USB-A 3.0 port..not even Thunderbolt 2)!! I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a FAST external drive. It is truly tiny as well...hard to describe, but maybe the size of a deck of cards, but only about 7-10 cards thick.

Great little drive but can't be it's best on M1.

Great little drive. I know it should be getting around 1Gb/s transfer rate but I'm only getting 650 MB/sec on my M1 MacBook Pro. I'm confident that this is a MacBook issue and hope it will be resolved soon. Until then, I'm still happy to have the 650! All in all, the size, speed, and reliability of this drive make it a no-brainer for a new MacBook.

    Not getting better external ssd

Great external fast storage option for anything. T7 only improves upon the T5. Possibly my 5th now, have several T5's and 1 other T7. I tried the sandisk first before buying this last t7, but within a week it had unreadable errors/bad sectors, and my macbook would only allow read only. Really wierd, and certain its a one off. But went back to Best Buy and returned it for the samsung. Wanted to try something new, Samsungs have impressed and i have a bunch, lesson learned, stay with tried and true. Read/write speeds are fast. Gets warm, sometimes really warm, when workiing off of it for hours. Likely throttles a bit, but havent noticed. Works well for dumping video vides from an event, and then working off them (along with scratch drive) in FFP or Premiere Pro. Dont notice a difference in anything between local SSD and this external. $250 isnt cheap, but 250 for 2tb of fastish ssd, is going rate for drive itself, let along the enclosure and controller this usit gives. A+, have already and likely will, continue to buy.

This drive is very fast and the build quality is great. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a small portable SSD solution. It's fast enough for me to work on Final Cut Pro projects right from the drive without any performance issues. I had a T5 drive previously and this is even thinner with better performance.

Worked great as an emergency backup location for important data. Really easy to setup and use. Has the ability to provide a password lock but haven’t used that yet. Fast transfer, small device did exactly what I needed.

As far as I can see, there are no problems with this product. I do audio recording with logic pro x. It’s fast and very reliable. I had returned a sandisc SSD because i got several HDD error messages. No problems with this one!

Using as replacement of internal startup drive on my iMac 27, three months conclusion is…….speeds up Lightroom quite a bit compared to internal original. Gets quite hot but less the 55C……how long it lasts is another question.

After using the Samsung T7 1TB SSD for a year, I’m happy to grab a second one. It’s been a solid drive—super fast for transferring big files, and the size makes it easy to toss in my bag. The hardware encryption is a nice perk, especially since I’ve got some work files on it. I also own the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, which is great too, but I feel the T7 runs cooler and feels a bit sturdier over time. Overall, it’s a solid, reliable choice.

Size is great, just wish SSD pricing would come down like the rest of storage has. This is really small and portable, but it feels like it should be treated very delicately to me. Speed is fast and appreciate having a spare 2TB with my internal 1TB SSD since editing videos takes up so much space.

I utilize this small device to store all my photos and videos, therefore not loading down my phone nor beading to pay for extra cloud storage. This is the second unit I have purchased. I would highly recommend this product.

Design is perfect and so slick, it's blazing fast, connectivity is great, choice of cables is perfect, it warms up at times but its understandable since I'm a Dj and use it for that, tons of files, material and size is perfect and compact.

Great to have this backup, which is so small / portable. I have had good experiences with Best Buy and this external SSD. I have purchased several for work, to hold all of my editing projects. SSD's just cost more, but am assuming that the price will come down on this. I have had a 2 HDD's give up the ghost recently. That 'death rattle' sound of moving parts clinking against each other is ominous and enough for me to replace all of my externals, not recalling how old they were. It is worth the money now for me, as I spent days trying to recover, alas unsuccessfully.

Great Portable Storage & Backup Solution

This SSD works flawlessly to provide extra storage that you can keep connected to your computer, as a portable device for transferring data, or as a means to backup files on your system. It has fast data transfer rates with a USB 3.0 port or higher, and it comes out of the box exFAT formatted and ready to be used with multiple operating systems. It does get very warm (but not hot) during prolonged writing of tens of gigabytes of data. I have left mine inside my computer case through an internal USB port easily added with a PCI-e card for extra storage. A more permanent and slightly more expensive alternative for inside your computer if you have the slots available is the Samsung 970 EVO+ 1TB SSD when coupled with a PCLe SSDE to PCI-e adapter card.
