As a result I've had it detach even when being cautious when moving it knowing how poor the connection is.

The perfect portable drive
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is the nicest all around drive I have owned. The drive is super fast with SSD internal drive. The looks are also very attractive and the drive is rugged. Samsung thoughtfully packed this with different cables making it useful for more than just laptops. There is software to install for Mac and PC, but also works flawlessly for my iPad Pro with the USB-C cable. With it being solid state, it is completely noiseless and doesn’t become hot with ongoing use, even with intensive reads and writes. Most of my other drives are considerably larger and not nearly as portable. With multiple laptops, this is the one that I carry with me for every occasion. While this might not seem so important, I’m writing this as I stand in line at an airport with a very heavy backpack. The weight and size of the drive matters, especially when traveling. As SSD drives become less expansive, these will become the standard for portable storage. Samsung always provides top of the line products and this is no exception.

Needed another one and this one was available (in spite of Best Buy's generally terrible availability issues), so I grabbed it. Stay away if you don't like that slimy rubbery feeling of dense rubber/silicon (?). It feels oily and smells like petroleum. And I'm sure in about 2 years it's going to have that sticky rubbery texture with clotted dust going on. Yuck. Missed my return window or I would have taken it back.

The T7 Shield may not be compatible with all devices but is compatible with Android devices using USB-C.

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung T7 Shield SSD and for your feedback regarding your drive and Mac OS.
This symptom may occur on some Mac OSXs due to the Apple policy that requires user approval when installing third-party software not directly distributed by Apple.
Please follow these troubleshooting guidelines.
You may see the “System Extension Blocked” message appears when installing the Samsung Portable SSD software, and the “No Samsung Portable SSD is connected” message appears when executing the Samsung Portable SSD software.
Open “Security & Privacy” in “System Preferences” menu and click “Allow” next to the message “System software from developer “Samsung Electronics” was blocked from loading”
If the symptom persists even after you follow these troubleshooting guidelines, please contact Samsung Customer Support.

Failing after barely any use compared to others

Really disappointed. The drive cannot complete a Samsung Magician diagnostic scan which fails to complete

Super Fast External SSD, Nice Case

I have used prior Samsung external SSDs and found them to be very functional. The T7 Shield has improvements in all the key areas of speed, dust prevention and water resistance. The optimal speed ratings do require cables that support USB 3.2 Gen 2 with UASP mode enabled. One of the nicest features is the soft rubber coating. This coating shape improves heat dissipation but maybe more importantly is very tactile and will help you avoid dropping the device which at times is a problem I have encountered with smooth sided external SSDs. The physical design is such that when you place the device on a table, there is airflow allowed underneath the unit – tip of the cap to the Samsung engineers for that design point. The size is not the current smallest, but is smaller than all the external SSDs I have used before. It comes with some utility files installed on the unit; you can take advantage of those or just remove them. One very nice feature is a 3 year parts and labor warranty. Samsung supplies this unit in different colors which is an extra benefit so you can identify your records by color if you like. I would recommend this unit highly, great design points
