Sandisk has degraded the Clip Player

    Posted .

It has a bigger screen and battery that the previous Clips but it's abilities to replay files have been cut back. I download books from Audible.com and past Clip players always stop playing at the end of a book, this one keeps going to the next one. I asked Sandisk for a fix, they told me to place each book in a separate folder and now the player simply starts over at the beginning of the folder. It can't stop. I rip music and books from CD's and each disc is a folder, if you try select artist (author) hoping to play all the albums or a whole book there is no joy. Only one folder at a time is allowed. If you place the book in the "Audiobooks" folder on the player you'll find the playback order of the folders is hopelessly scrambled. After Sandisk's latest operating system upgrade my player was no longer able to play Windows media WAV files. The files that were installed previously still play but any new ones produce an "unrecognized file type" error message. When I contacted Sandisk they said they were working on the problem and would get back to me. I asked the tech why not just reinstate the "ClipZip" operating system which worked so well and he said he just didn't know. That not all he didn't know. I'm still waiting for them to get back to me.

Great MP3 player for the price

This is my third SanDisk Mp3 player. I use them on my bike and for listening to audio books when I'm at the dentist. I thought I had lost my first one, but found it under the car seat six months after I bought my second one. I live in FL, but am in MO for the next few months. When I headed out on a bike ride, I couldn't find my player, so I bought this one. (And, found the one I thought I had lost two days later.) Each generation of SanDisk has more memory, more features and better interfaces than the last. When I think of how much I paid for a Classic iPod and how little it held and how short the batter life was, it's amazing. I have never regretted buying (multiple) SanDisks.

Don't buy if you want to listen to books

There is a long delay up to 15 seconds from when you press play to when the book will start playing. What is more frustrating you cannot listen to the very end of the book, it cuts off the last couple of minutes and moves onto the next book. I decided to upgrade to a large screen to make it easier to see the books I have on my SanDisk when I went looking for a SanDisk with more storage memory, but I am giving up on this model and going back to the smaller SanDisk to so I can hear the very end of the book and the credits plus I will be able to start and stop the book without delays.

I have had a sony mp3 player for yrs. My sony you could lock the screen. I use it at work. It gets bumped and hit. The scandisk seems cheaper. Its only smaller. I can put more memory into it.

I like this player, better if it had an AM radio. Setting up playlists needs to be done through Windows Media Player, which makes this kludgy. Headphones kept falling out of my ear, but that could just be my ears. Sound was very good, plenty of memory, hooked up to my laptop with no effort screen was very easy to read. Overall a very nice machine.

    No lock!

This is a pretty standard MP3 player - pretty much everything you would expect - except for one thing. There is no lock on it. As in, there is no way to disable the buttons. Depending on where you clip it, it could either be no big deal, or a real deal breaker. I started out clipping it to my front pants pocket, and quickly found that to be completely unusable. Every time you slightly bump it, it will skip to the next song, skip back to the beginning of the current song, or change radio stations. I have started clipping it to a belt loop off to the side - roughly 120 degrees from front center. That helps a lot, but I still get accidental button presses sometimes. This is really the only thing I don't like about this, but it's a pretty big one to me. Battery life has been good - I've been going about 15 hours of play between charges (and could go more). (Two 8 hour work days) As far as whether I would recommend this to a friend, I'm going with Yes - but only because this is mainly marketed to joggers and such, where it would likely be clipped to an arm band or something. For anyone else - the slightest bump will press a button. It REALLY needs a switch or something to lock the buttons. Many other MP3 players I've used had that.

    Good MP3 Player

I did have a problem with the first one I bought. When I plugged it in to my computer I kept getting a message that the player was corrupted. I exchanged it for a new one that works perfectly. I like that I can use a micro sd card instead of using the internal storage. It is small and light weight great for on the go but not for my 75 year old father.

I use this with my aux port on the car stereo and it works great. Easy to make play lists and download songs using the computer. For the size it's easy enough to navigate though I usually use a playlist or random.

    Missed the mark

I picked this up because my Zip Clip plus finally died and I needed to replace it. First I will start with what I did like about it. I like the larger screen size, the rubber ring on the edge of the player, rubber coated front button which also now acts as a power switch, and it has better radio reception than the old model. What I did not like about it and why I returned it was that the firmware on this this is awful! It is impossible to make a playlist on this player. I did much searching on the internet and found this is a common problem with this player and there is no simple fix to it either. I read many complaints that Sansa customer service support has not been helpful either. Also the music on your micro sd card is in a separate location on the menu and not listed with the music loaded on the player. I was able to find the old zip clip plus new from a large internet retailer and ordered it. Fix the firmware Sansa and make it like the firmware on the old zip clip plus or make major improvements to the firmware that you have now and you will have a hit. Until then it is a major step backwards. Sansa also needs to expand it's MP3 player lineup and give us some more choices. Sansa used to have a lot of great MP3 players, what happened? Not many choices out there right now for MP3 players unless you go with an IPOD which is way expensive and not worth it.

I wanted a music player that works natively with Linux Mint 17 and it's Ogg/Vorbis music files. And it had to handle my important podcasts. This little player does all that perfectly. The buttons are a little sensitive but nothing I can't easily deal with. Adios Windows / iTunes. It's been real.

    Replaced my Nano 6 Gen

My IPOD 6th Generation Nano battery started to show very low life and then the player just died. Screen blank and I assumed it was the Battery .. It would cost more to replace both the battery and the display glass than to buy this new Model MP3 fron SANDISK. Fast service at BESTBUY as I ordered it off their website. while the store was closed. Before the 10AM opening I got a email (30 minutes later) saying it was ready. Great price and services. Size and design looks like I will be happy with my purchase.

    New Model, New Problems Too

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

On the SanDisk clip sport forum, there are a lot of complaints about the difficulties of getting MP3 Audiobooks to play the book files in order. There is disagreement between various claimed solutions. There is no official San Disk document that specifies how the sorting order of book files placed in the Audiobooks folder and book subfolders are sorted. The claims are1) that they are sorted by file name, provided that less than 16 characters are used 2) they are sorted by the order in which the book files were written to the book subfolder, or 3) that they are sorted by file number in the ID3 tags if ID3 tags are used (the proper ones which also have different claims such as id3v2.3 or id3v2.3 with an ISO coding. Nowhere on the San Disk - Clip Sport MP3 player pages is there and specific data on the how and why of Audiobook file sorting - except the single sentence in the user guide that the file name must be 16 characters or less for the file sorting to be reliable. A great many MP3 CD' books use filenames with leading numbers, include chapter and part numbers and routinely run over 16 characters. They also may or may not contain ID3 tags for file number. - often not. The processor in this unit is a more recent processor than the previous San Disk MP3 players and yet it appears to be less useful than the older such units. San Disk appears to be unperturbed by the customer complaints and remains basically silent. I gave this item as a gift, and have struggled greatly to take MP3 CD audiobooks and insert them into the San Disk Clip Sport player under Audiobooks and have them play properly. I would not buy this item again. I would buy one of the older San Disk players, which are now selling at a premium over the more recent Sport incarnation. I highly recommend my San Disk Clip Zip which doesn't have quite the audiobook problems of the "new and improved model - Clip Sport".

Earplugs bounce out while running or exercising.

channel changes on the MP3 when bending over to pick up weights. MP3 was clipped to waistband. Not a good place. Ear plugs would come out after running on treadmill after a while. I tried different size plugs. Every once in a while, the MP3 would not cooperate. Pushing button made it do something it normally does not do. Couldn't get it back to DVD music from Radio. Could just be operator error, but unit acted confused a couple of times, if that makes sense

Okay for music lousy for workouts

I loved my last one, the most reliable source of workout music I've ever had, it lasted me for years, I never had any issues with it until it gave up one day. I thought i would stick with the Sandisk so I got this one, but there is no way to lockout the buttons. If you work out with it clipped to any part that moves it will change the song continuously, VERY FRUSTRATING. I would recommend it for just music, but not as a workout mp3

    Terrible MP3

The only reason I gave this a 2 and not a 1 is because of the clip. That's the best thing about this product. This will be my last time buying a SanDisk. My other two were just as bad. The two main issues are it fades in and out of radio stations and the sound gets louder and softer intermittently. This is so annoying while you're trying to work out.
