Sandisk delivers a solid alternative for storage!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here's my full review of the Sandisk USB Connect: Since the arrival of the iPad, 3rd party companies have tried to come up with a workable solution for expanding storage. The most successful ones were Drop Box, Box, and other cloud based solutions. They've been joined by Google Drive, Skydrive, and iCloud, with all competing for the future of cloud computing. That's all well in good, until you don't have an internet connection and you're not wanting to use that precious mobile data on a capped plan. Meanwhile, industry bearers like Western Digital and Seagate offered a different approach: turn a personal hard drive into a sort of cloud device by having it broadcast its own wifi signal, independent from an ISP. While this was a great idea, it was based around older, slower tech that any iPad, Nexus, or Kindle Fire's flash based architecture would eat for lunch. Plus, everyone has a heartbreaking tale of dropping a $100+ on an external hard drive, only for it to fail, taking with it all that precious data. To add to that headache even well regarded companies couldn't figure out how to make a solution intuitive enough for the average user. Enter Sandisk Connect! This device essentially provides users the best of cloud speed with the dependability of having the data physically on hand. Perhaps the best thing about the device is it works across platforms (iOS, Android, and Windows). While the purest may hate to admit it, most homes have a combination of devices: a Windows computer for work and an iPad for home, or Galaxy S4 paired with a Macbook Pro. To have a device that gets pictures, movies, documents, and pdfs to all is extremely convenient. To do it with flash architecture and a speedy built in wifi network is even better. To provide all this with a well regarded brand name for $50 to $60 is unbelievable. Sandisk Connect does it reliably and well. Photographers will especially find it convenient as my tests not only showed reliable use with JPEG but RAW as well (Cannon CR2 files to be exact. I expect this to be a case by case deal as my iPad Air natively recognizes the file, but my Nexus 4 does not). The device shines brightest when working with photos, pdfs, and docs...all things that USB 2.0 tech was originally built for. The free app through iOS and Android is a standout and very intuitive for most tech users. Video is where Sandisk Connect shows to be a mixed bag. Streaming a lower res video (540p and lower) is a breeze. Start to stream photos or other videos to another device simultaneously and you'll quickly experience buffering and slow loading. I was able to stream the entire length of The Avengers in SD, but not much else. If you can make that work, then the Sandisk Connect is for you. If you have visions of loading a 64gb card with full length HD movies and streaming them, you'll be disappointed. First loading an HD movie on the thumb drive is painfully slow over USB 2.0. Second, the file size limit for transferring to the device is 3.99 gb or less (more than any full length movie in HD). There may be workarounds to this, but even so you're gonna be out of luck when you hit buffer after buffer during the film. We're probably a generation cycle or two away from seeing the HD video streaming match that of other tasks, just in time for USB 3.0 to be a little cheaper. Sandisk Connect can also hop onto your internet hotspot allowing you to surf the net while loading content from the drive. I took the time to write a thorough review because I do believe this is a great solution for many smartphone and tablet users. I do not know how well this product stands up to wear, tear, and the test of time. But for $50 and the quality Sandisk usually brings, it's worth the gamble. Thanks for reading!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is beyond junk. If it was junk would be improvement. Only recognizes WIFI maybe 5% of the time and when it does it causes my phones WIFI to close. I have a note Edge and a high end router so we are not talking outdated equipment. This is being returned ASAP
