A little complicated to setup and use initially, but afterwards it works just fine. Read the manual first!

I had been searching for a different drive but had to settle with this one due to nothing else being in stock. I had used it a few times and then it un-mounted from my MacBook Pro. I could not get it to recognize in my laptop, I tried 4 other MBP’s and it would not recognize on any of them. After reading some troubleshooting issues online, this is a common issue with this drive. I had to leave it mounted for about 24 It finally showed back up. I left it mounted and copied all files to another SSD. My experience has not been good, I do like Sandisk products, but this one is not recommended by me.

This portable SSD is great! first of all its extremely fast as expected, but what really makes it stand out is how small and thin this is. it as light as a feather and can be easily attached to key chain (not gonna do it but you definitely can). It is IPS55: water and weather proof, it is also shock proof to up to 6.5 feet drop test. it has USB C connector and has a universal USB adapter if your computer doesn't have a type C on it. it also comes preloaded with Sandisk encryption software to keep your files safe on it but you can activate it and use it or not. it can be reformatted and partitioned as you wish to meet your requirements. this is a truly great storage solution for bloggers, photographers, techies, and anyone who needs to have big data carried on themselves on the go.

after working fine for about 6 months, the USB-C port burned out; still technically under warantee, but haven't heard back from SanDisk about whether it will be covered, or just be trash/recycling....

I saw this drive and thought "OK it's really small, fits easily in a shirt pocket, but why wouldn't I just purchase a regular USB flash drive?" Well I found out as soon as I started downloading a GB file to it. Before I knew it, the transfer was finished. I've never seen a drive move files this quickly. If you are a photographer or videographer and need to transfer files to a drive quickly in the field you can't do better than this. As far as reliability goes, everything I've read says that an SSD drive is more reliable than a SATA, and at the sale price of $149.95 I'd jump on it now.

I have a 500gb HDD that has a larger profile and I'm impressed by how portable this is. My Lenovo Ideapad only has 32gb SSD so I am using this or external storage for the Portable Apps plaform. Love how this has USB type C connector which my laptop has so I can free up a USB port to connect my phone and download pictures. So small that it fits in your pocket and it's easy to use. And yes it's backward compatible with 2.0 USB if you need it for that.

Excellent portable storage solution. Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD 500GB drive has a small, lightweight form factor and all the data transfer speed you expect from a SSD drive. The ability to carry that much extra storage space on trips and excursions gives extra freedom to take photos (using as main storage,) go farther (storing music to listen to,) and just enjoy a freedom to do things without the need for a constant wifi connection. The additional bonus that this device is water resistant -- not water PROOF, you can drown it!! -- is a boon. Device comes with double-end USB-C connector w/USB adapter to plug into a computer or other USB device for data transfer. Would be nice if it came with a belt loop sized carabiner or sturdy strap to hang from a belt loop or even wrist band, but the small size and light weight make it easy to keep in a pocket without weighing you down.

This external hard drive is great for bringing on the road. It's about the size of a business card. I put 300 GB of photos and files on it in a couple of hours. The drive is easy to access through the software on the disk and is secured by a password. It's perfect for storing pictures or for bringing files with on a business trip. It worked on my desktop (Windows 8.1) and my netbook and all-in-one computers (Windows 10). Great storage solution.

I've tried this device on several computers at home and at work and was surprised to find out that it doesn't recognize on a Dell Precision M4800 system. It doesn't even show up in Device Manager. The Dell Precision M4800 just happens to be my primary laptop at work, so this really limited my use of this drive. I tried this on another M4800 and confirmed it doesn't work. I looked for drivers and couldn't find any on SanDisk's site. These drives are pre-formatted as exFAT. I probably would not have noticed but my main computer at home runs Fedora Linux and while it recognized, I couldn't mount the drive until I loaded the exfat-fuse package. Within seconds of loading the package, the drive recognized and mounted with no problem. The drive sits in a rubberized housing with a large loop to clip via a carabiner. On the bottom of the case is a USB C connector. Included with the drive is a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A adapter. The cable itself is notched to mate nicely with the included adapter. Speed-wise, this SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD blows away all my previous USB sticks. CrystalDiskMark rates the sequential read and write operations at over 440 MB/sec. If not for the incompatiblity with my M4800, I would likely throw all my previous USB sticks in a drawer in favor of this SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD.

Small and very lightweight. It comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable and an adapter for regular USB use. Using it on my laptop through the USB C port I got very fast transfer of files around 2 GBs in size. Way faster than the thumb drives I usually use while still being very portable. A must have for keeping backups of my pictures, and videos.
