I had to reformat the drive using Microsoft ntfs because I was using file sizes that were larger then 4 GB, however, if you do not have files that big you can leave it on the default file format it comes with from the factory.

Keep in mind these drives are not meant for archival purposes so don’t try and use it for a backup solution.. unless you love living dangerously.

Had to reformat because of my device, but that was a snap. Got rid of security software because I could not use it with my recorder, but having in-built security would be good if it is being used with computers.
