Impossibly slow transfer speed

Transfer speeds regularly in the kilobytes per second. I tried it on my PC (USB C) and my laptop (Thunderbolt 4), and speeds were ok for a few seconds, but then bottomed out, sometimes stopping completely. Also tried NTFS as well as exFat, large as well as small files - no difference. SanDisk usually makes solid products, but this thing is absolute garbage.

Unusably slow writes
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for backups from my mac, and tried using both Time Machine and just copying files to it. After an initial fast burst, it writes at less than 1MB/s, which is ridiculously unusably slow. It would take 10 days to fill the 1TB drive at this rate. I thought a good brand name like Sandisk would be a safe choice but apparently not. They promise "up to 400MB/s" but it's literally 1000x slower. I'm going to return it.
