The movie that lost Best Picture to Shakespeare in Love. *sigh*. Anyways, the landmark war film is finally out in HD and it stands as one of the best films ever and one of the best Blu Ray's ever (And DVD.... laserdisc if it was released for that format...) that rightfully earns a place on your shelf at all costs. I am not even going to go over the film because everyone knows about already with the iconic 20 minute opening scene, the use of color that has become synonymous with the film and widely praised as the best war film ever made. It has gone above and beyond the call of duty to deliver some of the best PQ of all time on a Blu Ray disc, replicating the gritty grain structure, muted color palate, and amazing detail to each and every frame displayed across your TV. The sound mix is equally stunning, making you believe the taking of Omaha Beach is happening 10 ft. away from you. The extras are plentiful, and are on the second disc to give plenty of room to the film itself on disc one. Included is a full length documentary about WWII itself and how it was captured on film throughout the course of the war, an intro by Spielberg, several making of featurettes and a series of trailers. Go out and buy this now, no matter how much or format. It belongs in your home.

It may not be a true story but you can definitely relate to how horrible it would be for kids in this war.

Great movie and looks great in 4K. The extras are a great bonus too especially for my world history class!

Stephen Spielberg and Tom Hanks, one of the greatest actor/director duos to ever come out of Hollywood take Saving Private Ryan into the halls where classic masterpiece movies go to be cherished and honored for all history. supported by an all-star group of actors this is one of the most graphic, violent, realistic, and believable war movies set to the backdrop of WWII. But it is not all blood and gore, it has a strong moral message the last few generations couldn't hurt to learn, along with a moving story and characters you really learn about and want to spend more time with them. it is also a great movie to use as a learning opportunity about the horrors and sacrifices, courage and brotherly bonds that formed during the great war.

Classic movie, it felt so real and gave you a real imagination of what those troops had to endure

This review IS NOT about the movie. It's about the packaging. Normally I buy used blu-rays from Redbox. I've never had any audio/video issues with them. I own the DVD of this movie and with my new 4k blu-ray player I wanted a better audio/video experienc. Well, with 3 discs in the case, the swingarm that holds the 4K version, it was broke and didn't sit in place. Then about 1hr 12 min. into the movie, the audio would cut out and and the video would freeze. I would have to fast forward a few seconds to get it working again. Nothing like periodically for the remainder of the movie, having to correct these issues. It really killed the tension the movie was building. Fortinately Bestbuy did exchange it after purchasing it less than a week prior. I don't blame Bestbuy for this issue, they were great! I blame the vendor who got the license to print these movies and sell them. The disc was flawless, so this tells me it was in the recording of the movie onto the disc that created the problems. So if you get this movie, watch it within the first week to ensure there are no issues, or exchanging it may not be an option for you.

Love this movie. Wanted the updated format to watch on and listen on the sound system and TV.

Demo worthy 4K disc! Dolby atmos is incredible I can hear bullets fly all over my room on my 7.1.4 system.

The new 4K transfer for Saving Private Ryan looks great. This upgrade to 4K is highly recommended.

If you like war movies this one is for you. I had this movie on vhs slowly converting to disk.

The opening beach entry sequence will leave you shaken. It is incredible. The movie is amazing.
