Not so reliable.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These drives are know for failing. I wouldn't put a lot of trust in these for long term storage.

Failed in 5 months
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seagate has had a reputation of selling unreliable drives for many years. Unfortunately, they have yet to make any effort to improve quality control and reliability. I guess it was a mistake to think that they would actually improve. I bought this drive in January 2017 and it's dead now, May 2017. It took all of 187 power ons and 1422 hours of uptime for this to become almost completely inaccessible. Do yourself a favor and skip this. Western Digital drives cost about the same but, in my personal experience, are a heck of a lot more reliable. I have 5 year old WD Green drives that are still operating flawlessly and this Seagate garbage couldn't make it through the better part of 5 months. If you value your data, don't buy Seagate. If for some reason you still end up buying this, keep regular backups. You'll be glad that you did. I know I am.

Buyer Beware
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this hard drive and installed it in my PS4 (with the help of the Nyko Databank) and everything worked flawlessly for about a week. Out of the blue the hard drive stopped working. I removed it and connected it to my PC via external enclosure to no avail. The drive died in a week. Returned it for a different hard drive. Thankfully, my game saves were in the cloud, but reinstalling every game was a serious pain. Stay away from this one!

Most expensive drive in history
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Shortly after installing this drive, I began having blue screen crashes. Long story short, I ended up replacing every part of my computer before I realized it was my brand new drive that was causing the problem. Now that I have 50 hours into trouble shooting, have purchased memory, mouse, network adapters, and a full new system, I determined that the drive was faulty. New one works fine.

Not worth it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I didn't even get 6 weeks of use out of this hard drive. Luckily it was still under warranty, but I haven't received my hard drive back from the manufacturer yet so I still don't know if it'll function.

Easy to install
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed more back up storage for photos, this drive seemed to fit. It was simple to install just note it does not come with any wires you'll need. I will update if anything fails with drive in future but so far so good.

Great drive at a great price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The cost was actually lower than comprable 7200rpm drives from NewEgg and other onlin vendors. Finding a brick-and-mortar part locally at that price is impressive. It's a seagate SATA drive - what more need be said? It's fast, reliable, and works!

Best backup, best initial purchase!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a routine I normally follow. I buy a Western Digital My Book external drive, the drive fails, I crack open the case and replace with a Seagate, and the drive works without issue from then on. Reliability. That's the word I use for Seagate. Any drive can go bad; the first drive I had fail was a Seagate Barracuda. But not one since has failed me. I bought this drive to replace yet another failed Western Digital My Book and found the case for it had failed as well. I bought a external enclosure and put the Seagate in it (a practice I recommend; build your own external drives). Works like a dream. With Solid State Drives becoming more ubiquitous and hard drive manufacturers pushing the limits of the form factor, I think the prices for these drives are a bit steep. Also, be careful when buying. Though I was purchasing this for backup storage space it crossed my mind to swap out my main drive. Unfortunately, it wasn't until I arrived home that I saw it was a "green" drive. While a good move environmentally, such drives are not good if you want the best performance from your computer (i.e.- don't use "green" drives as your startup disk). I had scanned the boxes in the store and didn't notice it on this drive's packaging. Other manufacturers mark their packaging with a leaf or color the box green. Besides a thin strip, no markings are on this case. Reliable drive, plenty of storage, easily formatted for Mac or PC. As a "green" product, better suited for a backup disk.

Great performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I work for a company that has 20 locations. We have video surveillance in all of our locations. Each dvr has 1 of these 3 terabyte hard drives inside. They have really good read/write performance plus the price per gigabyte is cheaper than other brands out there. I did have a couple fail over the years but that is standard with hard drives. Seagate’s warranty replacement was easy and fast. Remember to always backup your data.

Perfect operation in my 20in Apple iMac!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I installed this in my aluminum 20in iMac when my 320gb internal drive ran out of space. Disassembly of the iMac and cloning your old drive can be found online to help you perform this task. You'll need a cloning program and an external drive enclosure to put your old drive into (this 3tb drive has too much capacity for any external encloures I could find - they won't "see" the entire 3tb). I removed the old drive, put it in an exteral enclosure, installed the new drive in the iMac, booted from the external, and then cloned the old drive to the new drive. It is awesome!! My internal is now a whopping 3tb and the Apple works great with it!! I swear the computer actually runs better and faster. Thanks Seagate and Best Buy!
