    A great media storage device

I bought this in store a little over a month ago to replace a dying drive. The previous drive was a Seagate as well, but that should not raise any alarms as the old drive was about 6-7 years old. In the past I bought WD drives-3 different models-and each died in under a year, so now I stick with Seagate. Having said that, I love having this much space on one drive. I'm using it on a SATA II port because my SATA III ports are used for OS/Game raids. It's difficult to explain how much video you can store on this thing. My only real complaint is that even though my MB is current enough to see it's a 3tb drive, the OS-Win7 64bit-still defaults to having it split into two partitions. One partition is 1.99 TB the other is 746GB. I'm very familiar with Overhead for memory/drives so it should not be a surprise to not be a full 1 TB. I also have this formatted in NFTS which has a slightly higher overhead. On my system it gets the full SATA II speeds(1.5Gbps) and higher for short transfers, remember this is a SATA III drive that I have connected to a SATA II port. There may be a work around to get the OS to use it as one partition but I'm not overly worried about. If you want a general media storage solution I would definitely recommend this.

    Fast & Quiet Upgrade

Purchased this hard drive as an upgrade in capacity for an (out of warranty) Apple Time Capsule Model A1355. Installation was easier done the said - very pleased with the performance improvement: faster and quieter than the factory supplied 1 TB drive. Check iFixit for instructions - the procedure is the nearly the identical for the legacy Time Capsule models.

Cannot boot Windows 7 off this drive

The drive provides plenty of storage, but cannot be used as a boot drive with more than 2.2Tb available, even if partitioned. As a second drive, works great, but do not plan on being able to use all of the space provided if this is the only drive in your system. For more information, google "3TB drive Windows 7".

I had an older HDD go out on me and shopped around for a replacement. Normally I like the WD brand, but this HDD was on sale so I picked one up. It was easy to install, and has worked like a champ with no issues nor problems.

I installed this drive in my home desktop computer (Windows 7) last night as a secondary drive (have SSD for primary drive). Windows showed the drive in Device Manager but I needed to run the Seagate utility to set the partition table to GPT and format the drive before it would show in My Computer. After that was completed the drive reports having 2.8TB of free space. This drive runs quiet and cool. Using HD Tune, I ran a quick read benchmark test on this drive and my older WD Green 1TB drive. It has an average read time that's twice as fast as the WD. So far, no clicks or clacks or whirring noises.

    Great option for backup

I originally bought a seagate 3TB drive to backup my 1 TB iMac. It just wouldn't work, so, after getting no help from seagate (they blamed finder and timemachine, even though it froze at the same amount of bytes copy on 2 different machines in two different programs....), I took it back to BB and picked this up, for almost the same price. This has worked fine, and was even formatted for my mac, which was a nice surprise (I expected to have to reformat the windows partition). It's quiet and, thanks to the FW 800, it's much faster than the USB 1 TB that I had been using. So, if you are looking for a nice, inexpensive backup disk, this should be a consideration, IMHO.

I went from a lap top hard drive in my computer that was starting to click and make a TON of noise. This hard drive is the first "Current Gen" hard drive I have owned. Transfer rate is awesome!

Hi, I have several of this drives. about 15. I am using 8 in my NAS from last 2.5 years without any issues. no SMART events and no heating issues. They all work fine. But in my last purchase, first time I noticed that Best buy wrote 5 Years warranty on the product page, but infect drive comes with 2 year warranty only. I checked on seagate site, which shows 2 years only.

What is there to say? A hard drive either works or it doesn't. This Seagate 3TB drive was a quick and easy install. The drive transfers data at a very respectable speed, and is super quiet inside the case. Dinging one star because Seagate is too cheap to include a SATA cable. If you don't have an extra, you'll need to buy one.

Seagate A number 1 (as always)

As Always I have little or nothing to complain about seagate hardware. And I am a hard person to please, I bought this product ahead of the tech curve so it was stiull pricey and my computer is behind the curve and so there were installation issues ON MY END. If you have a new UEFI BIOS then excellent would be all marks except maybe price. Had issues installing but in the end Seagate Support was truly Outstanding... I thank them for the patience they expressed with me. The drive runs a little slow primarily due to system constraints, it is a bit ahead of the tech curve supporting UEFi based Bios's and not regular bios's that most people have, however the software bundled with the drive repairs this issue by extended the partitions of the drive. Seagate support is also a primary reason I partake of seagate products, they provided support in areas where even my computer maker (PowerSpec) Failed miserably, I wish seagate MADE computers - I suspect there hardware would never fail and IF they wrote there own software that too would reflect there dedication to perfection. I would recommend this drive to everyone, based on seagates track record with me it will not disappoint, install win 7 (w/o sp1 update) and you will see 50+ mb/s transfer rates and better! and 3 tb well more is always better. Great iMac Replacement Hard drive

My iMac hard drive crashed, but I was able to install this (an upgrade from my 1TB) and restore the hard drive from my Time Machine. The hardest part was creating a disk image for Mountain Lion so it would be compatible with my Time Machine. The drive worked like a charm though.

Picked this up to replace a failed first-generation 3TB drive. Model inside was a ST3000DM001-1CH1-CC26. Resilvering my array now, but so far? It appears to be working great. I've got 11 of them now, and they all run cool, quiet, and fast. Can't ask for more than that!

It's run well for the month that I've owned it. Seagate's instructions with their software to get my system to read the full drive was a bit tricky. It's not rocket science though just computer science. All in all no real issues.

Swapped out a 750GB original drive for this 3TB model with no problems. (Dell XPS mini tower). While the proof is in the pudding a couple of years down the line, no problem with this drive installation at all.
