First one failed in two weeks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just spent two weeks configuring a system as I liked it and this new hard drive failed completely. BIOS would not see the drive, Could not mount it in another system for restore. BestBuy replaced the drive without question. The new has been in place for two weeks now. We'll see...

So far So good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In a panic to replace a quickly dying 'WD' TB drive, I was very thankful Best Buy had these in stock locally. I didn’t want to wait a week to mail order a new drive, and risk data loss, so buying from the cheapest online vendor and adding in expedited shipping fees would have cost about the same as a local best buy, and no other local retailer had an internal 4TB in stock locally for a reasonable price. This is Not a fast drive, clocking in at 5900 RPM, instead of the 7200 most 3.5” current spinners run at. But, it does have a 64M Cache. It’s a lot of storage in a single drive, at a current low retail price. For better performance, use it as a 2nd drive, and go with an SSD for your OS and main apps #like related products pictured#. Or consider going all out on a wired NAS array if you really need capacity & speed #+$$#. This is a more budget-class device. A full format with error checking took about 7 hours, using a single large GPT partition, and the NTFS file system. Using a quick format would be Very Much faster, but to me it’s worth the extra assurance my data will be safe on the new drive, although many argue a quick format is fine for current generation drives. So if you do the full format, start it before work/school/bed/etc and just let it go. The full format on any traditional drive with this much capacity is going to take a long time. I also looked into a 4TB HGST #the old Hitachi storage division, who was swallowed up by Western Digital last year#. The specs I found on the HGST are even slower than this Seagate, spinning at 5400 RPM, and only having 32M Cache, although it’s got a 3 year warranty compared to Seagate’s 2. Installation was trouble free, and I appreciate the Seagate retail box including a SATA cable, and extra power connector. No issues or upgrades needed attaching it to an aging ASUS motherboard, with original bios level. The included software is of No value to me, although I’m sure some percentage of buyers will find it useful, especially if you’re still running Grandma’s old Windows XP. Hope this helps your decision. Happy Downloading..

Works Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Read the reviews, and had a little concerns with the ones referring to not being able to utilize all 4TB. However after a little research on the differences of MBR {Master Boot Record}, & GPT {GUID Partition Table}, which led me to research the UEFI {Unified Extensible Firmware Interface} form of BIOS. I could then make the right choices and now have a 4TB slave drive, working great. My only complaints are that Seagate could provide better instructions, and Best buy should correct their website, that the 'kit' does not include the Sata cable.

Good Offline Storage Drive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This drive is rated in Backblaze server farm; 2015 reliability report. ST4000DM000-1F2168 I found that compared to my older Seagate 3TB and 2 year old WD 1TB Black drive; this thing rocks in speed, much less vibration and less heat generated. The Seagate 4TB drive is spinning at 5900 RPM, however my large file sustained read and writes are 180 MB/s vs 110 MB/s on both my internal and external 7,200 RPM drives via USB 3.0 and mounted inside PC. All drives SATA 300 minimum, actual seek values not tested. All tested on AsRock motherboard and Windows 10. I very happy with the drive for my intended use. The Backblaze 2016 report should be interesting for running this drive 24/7 which is NOT what this drive is recommended for. Seagate recommends Enterprise class drives for 24/7 use.
