It did what I needed, but it took a while to do the backup. About 8 hours with USB 2.0 connection.

this is my second seagate portable external hard drive, simple to use and transfer files is fast

Ok, for starters, I wanted to give Seagate a chance since I normally go to WD for all of my external needs. This one attracted me by its price, which was on sale and very reasonable. Problem is, when I got it home and plugged it in to my mac, I found out that it could not be recognized in the device manager to format. I called Seagate support, which was very slow to respond, and finally came to the conclusion that I had a defective item. Not a very good first experience with Seagate. I returned the HD minutes later and spent the extra money for the latest WD 4tb external, which I love, love, love! Sorry Seagate, but I will never give you a second chance to earn my business. If you are a Mac user, don't bother. While any HD can be formatted for mac, they are just not very friendly to us.

The actual drive seems well made and compact but I have had trouble getting the software to work. I am an experienced computer user and still not confident of software performance. I now manually transfer files verbatim to the drive. That works but not convenient or automatic.

I needed a new external hard drive for backing up and this one was on sale so all the better.

As expected. Meets our storage needs. Nothing complicated.

I believe that it was good capacity but i feel it should have more and also should be smaller

This is very hard to get to my files. There are so many files that I didn't know where to go to find my files after the backup occurred. The only way I can get to my files is to go through about 9 steps on The Seagate Dashboard! Ridiculous! I am tempted to save everything hereafter right to the first thing I see and ignore all of the files.

Plenty of storage, not as fast as I thought it would be.

Couldn't pass up on the black friday deal for a portable drive that packs 4TB of memory.

Returned within 24 hours and purchased another Toshiba 3.0 external laptop hard drive which was much faster!!! Transfer speed was way to slow on this Seagate laptop drive in comparison.

My 14 year old has been backing up his computer. I finally had time to back up one thing.

Backing up files on it now and it's pretty quiet and seems to work well for my purposes

Needed a backup for a good price and after reading all the reviews picked this one.

I have bought one before. Since the quality is good, I buy one more for backup my data.

data retrieval is so slow...and it seems to lock up for minutes at a time. I only have maybe one quarter of the disk filled perhaps there are too many folders and that is locking it up.. I am trying to find a storage/backup solution for my photography but I am afraid this one is not reliable. Anybody have a suggestion?

Use for Backup of RAW camera 4k video. Works great!
